Where has the Summer gone?

The Mallus Flower battling the elements.

Snow in the mountains is far from unheard of, but snow in the capital in the middle of summer? That's something you don't hear about every day. Earlier today 3 inches of snow fell upon the capital city of Racuern, with temperatures dropping below 30° F. All public schooling had been cancelled and many parents took time off to watch over their children in the warmth of their homes. Snow plows were very slow to mobilize, but were able to clear up most of the snow before it melted in the afternoon sun. The snow may have melted by late afternoon, but the damage was already done.

The Singesurn River which flows through the city froze over; shutting down major factories of Inferno Incorporated, Grain Train Industries, and other multi-million dollar companies. The unexpected cold snap has cost the companies thousands of dollars already repairing the factories, and it's projected to cost them tens of thousands more before the factories can be operational once more. The employees are being offered a paid vacation, and double pay if they help in the reparation efforts.

Meteorologists have debated the cause of such frigid summer conditions since the first flake hit the ground. Most agree that the mountains and a recent cold front play a significant role in the formation of such strange weather, but the role itself is a hotly debated topic. Some believe that the mountains forced a rush of cool air onto the city, and combining that with a cold front coming through it created the effects we saw today. Others took note of seismic activity that had taken place last night, and theorized that an avalanche had occurred in the mountains near the city. The powder from the avalanche was then thrust into the air, where prevailing winds brought it into the cold front. This then drastically reduced the temperature of the aforementioned front, and caused the moisture to stick to the snowflakes, making them large enough to fall from the cloud onto the city.

Us here at The Legionite Times wish everyone a warm night by the fireplace with a cup of hot cocoa in hand.
