The Legionite Times |
The Legionite Times is the best-selling newspaper in the Legion. It's widely renowned for it's objectivity to contentious issues and the neutrality of opinions expressed. Many Sangheli have come to trust the Legionite Times as their primary news source of events within the Sanghelios Legion. This is simply astounding, as the Legionite Times was only founded roughly two years ago. In an effort to expand it's audience, the Legionite Times has started to make it's publication available outside the Legion.
[OOC: Newspaper updates will be sporadic. Don't expect it to come out once every week or something similar. As for the thread rules: comments, both in and out of character, are allowed here. Although I reserve the ability to halt any threadjacking on contentious issues should an article be written about them. That's all, and enjoy the paper!] The Legionite Times
One Horse, Two Horse, Red Horse, Blue Horse?
Stella, one of the many horses born from Project Crayon.
Scientists in the Sanghelios Legion have made stunning progress in the field of genetic engineering. A team from part of the larger Project Crayon has successfully altered the genome of a foal to alter the color of it's fur. Wide variations in color can be produced, ranging from purple, to bright orange, to even a deep green. This could have a wide range of uses. From making horses, and their riders, more visible at night; to allowing more choices to those who are picky about their mounts, adding in new color variations alone can prove useful to all horse-lovers out there. Project Crayon is a concerted effort to increase our understanding of genetics. Since it's formation in 1993, Project Crayon has successfully mapped the genome of the horse (accomplished in 2004), located the genes responsible for Overo Lethal White Foal Syndrome and other genetic diseases (accomplished in 2009), and most recently manipulated genes to change the color of a horse's fur (accomplished in 2015). The leads of Project Crayon are estimating full genetic control over the species by 2027. Although this may arrive sooner then predicted due to the unexpected growth of the genetic engineering field as a whole. It has grown from 18th largest field in 2000 to the 2nd largest field in the Legion, with only Nuclear Engineering garnering more jobs of the various engineering fields. Us here at The Legionite Times wish Project Crayon the best of luck, as many of us here enjoy riding with our equestrian friends.
