Resolution on the Coalition
#41

I honestly think and support, a general amnesty. Let's move on from this and work on addressing the root causes. I don't think casting blame will actually achieve anything beyond making those divides more visible.

I am of the opinion that a general amnesty is probably the best way for the region to heal and move on. This wasn't a power grab, or a purge, or any of the normal types of GCR coup; this was one big political mess that was inevitably going to happen sooner or later considering the problems TSP had developed. There are no clear cut good and bad guys in this one, and acting like there are will only further entrench the problems.

I have mixed feelings on an amnesty. Please bear with me as I explain my stance, so we can have all the positions out there.

I am fine with pardoning all who supported the TGSP and those Cabinet members who defected. I am not so fine with giving an amnesty to the other Cabinet members, simply because there is a reason why we have a Criminal Code and a High Court, especially for charges as serious as treason.

That being said, I acknowledge that there is a certain awareness among citizens of the need for reconciliation, and I suppose an amnesty would be positive in that sense. If anything, I would like to see those in the Cabinet who had their concerns work in good faith to ensure the future Great Council is successful. If people in both sides show they are willing to work together, then that is really what matters the most, moving forward.

I know, I know. I may be somehow stubborn with this. Is it because I was one of the three people who were banned? That is perfectly possible, and I would understand if people sensed that kind of bias in my post. But I still felt I needed to voice this opinion, in the interest of honest debate.

They acted because they felt it was the right thing to do and the best way for TSP to move forward, which is why we didn't see the standard "coup and purge" that Milo, Durk, URA and Stu done in TSP, Osiris, TWP and Laz respectively.

They went about it wrong yes, but the damage was pretty much restricted to four nations, who have been let back in and are no worse for wear.

Thus truly, no harm was done. The biggest effects are on the out of character community... I am the ruler of a small ucr which has an overlap with TSP. I've had members of that community, who are also members here sharing how they felt about this and how distressing it has been - they didn't want to cast blame, they just wanted the problems that caused this situation to be addressed and resolved for TSP to move on.

I know many people feel that way, which is why I really have no intention of being an obstacle towards a general amnesty, if that is where the sentiment goes. I may be stubborn often, but I too want us to focus on how to move forward and away from all this.

I just had to explain my reasoning, as a matter of principle. If the Assembly feels a general amnesty is the best course of action, I will amend the amnesty clause in the draft accordingly.

The way I look at it Kris is this; why did what happen, happen? I don't think anyone is of the opinion that dissolving The Coalition was the right thing to do, but it was something that occurred in the heat of the moment, unplanned and unthought-out. The Cabinet had genuine reasons for moving forums, and genuine support for doing so; we absolutely have to acknowledge that and look at this from perspectives other than our own.

They're not bad people, and they want what is best for TSP. If they're willing to acknowledge their mistakes we should all be willing to move forward with them, because I know for a fact that they weren't the only people who made them.

Like I said, Bel. I do understand where you guys are coming from, and I really am not here to hold any grudges. I think we will all agree that the worst thing we could do is be bitter about things, when we have a real chance to move forward. If the way to do that is a clean slate, and if we all intend to work together in good faith, I can live with that, and I would really like to be a part of these rebuilding efforts.

To be honest, I think it would be best if we were all to examine how we contributed to this mess and looked over our own actions. I can think of a number of things I did, going all the way back to 2013, which contributed to bringing us to this point.

I'd suggest finding out the full story before deciding who to execute for this.

Just inserting 2 cents here, but I note that there is no provision for a Deputy Chair of the Assembly.

As such, out of respect for the momentous task that Farengeto and the incoming Cabinet will be undertaking, I will be resigning my position as Deputy Chair of the Assembly as a formality, which will take effect upon the passage of this Resolution.

I will be willing to take the job should Farengeto seek to re-appoint me, but for now, I will be resigning upon the passage of this Resolution, in order to clear any ambiguity, and out of respect for the incoming Cabinet.
