Three Years Ago
#1

Three years ago I was one day away from joining NationStates for the first time. I knew little about this weird simulation game, but i sure knew I wanted to manage my own nation. I founded Kringalia and was automatically placed in the South Pacific. I applied for citizenship the very next day, but did not otherwise participate in the region for the next two months. Until one morning of April 20, when I received an email encouraging all citizens to help fight against rogue delegate Milograd, who was trying to impose the tyrannical regime of the South Pacific Socialist Republic.

I quickly logged in and started fighting on the RMB, arguing against those who said the Coalition was dead and Milograd was the unquestionable leader. Why? Because I believed in democracy. I believed that the Coalition was good for the region. Throughout the next ten days I would post day and night to rally people to our cause. My role was minor in comparison to those who led the military and political campaign, but this was the moment that defined my career in the region. I wanted to make sure that we prospered as a community.

Today we have cause to celebrate, because once again we faced the test of defending our democracy, and we succeeded. We had allies come to our aid and citizens come forward to do their part. I found myself having to work closely with many different people, both from the region and abroad, and all rose up to the challenge. This list will by no means be exhaustive, but there are some people that must be thanked in public, out of respect for the important role they played in saving our region:
  • Tsunamy
  • Sandaoguo
  • Farengeto
  • Resentine
  • Drugged Monkeys
  • Ryccia
  • Punchwood
  • Serres
  • Scylla
  • Kazmr
  • Eluvatar
  • Dyr
  • Ravenclaw
  • Loftegen
  • Libetarian Republics
  • Rogamark
Their contributions and accomplishments are many and varied, but they all played a role in restoring the Coalition. They deserve our gratitude. Our allies deserve our gratitude.

It is in times like these that I remember why the South Pacific is such a great region. We are a resilient people, and no matter how trying a challenge we might face, we always succeed and improve. This will not be the exception. We have many challenges ahead of us, but we will make the best of it, and come out as a better, more open and successful region than ever before.

The Coalition lives on.

I only humbly served to the cause. Even though I was losing hope, to my surprise and joy, the Coalition lives on.

Then. Now. Forever. Coalition.

I believe I said this to you but I'll repeat it: the rule of law trumps my personal preferences and predilections.

As Delegate of The North Pacific, as a Citizen of The North Pacific, as a Citizen of The South Pacific, that path was clear. Regardless of my personal preferences.

I had close friends on both sides of this. People I care very much for on a personal, nonNS level. One of them is elated by these events, and another is disheartened or worse, and possibly angry at me. I can't say I'm not worried about that, but hopefully when they're feeling happier, we can talk.

I did not like events like these in Osiris, and I do not like them now.

Everyone deserves credit — and I take umbrage with my name being listed Tounge

This victory for TSP, its friends old and new. Thanks to everyone who helped, whether physically, emotionally or in spirit. This is your victory.

I hope everyone sticks around to build the region better than it was before.
