It has been a pleasure working with you this past term and I really appreciate all the hard work you've put into FA over two terms!

Some questions (others asked some of mine already so some new ones):

1. What is something about the FA Discord and how it operates that you would want to keep the same? What is one thing you would change?

2. How do you envision cooperation between FA, MA, and RA?

3. What are some qualities you look for in a deputy or FA staff?

What is your foreign policy vision? You mention seeking new allies, but that’s not necessarily a vision.

The more regional focus is interesting, though I’m skeptical if this new version of an ambassador corps is going to work any better than the ones I ended.

But I think we should be voting for somebody with a clear vision guiding their agenda. What’s yours?

1. I'm gonna be honest, the specific people who we're getting hate from on those fronts won't be happy unless we 100% conform to their ideology of Independentism as per the Manifesto. Given that, I don't really think there's anything we should bother doing, because we shouldn't have to dictate our own policies according to their whims and desires. We’re involved in more raid-aligned operations than a good number of those regions criticizing us, after all.

2. Could you give an example? I don't think it's really possible to effectively answer this question without having some sort of hypothetical crisis to work inside of.

To speak in a general sense, though, I'd work efficiently and diplomatically to gain a comprehensive knowledge of the situation and would attempt to defuse the problem as quickly as possible.

3. Yes. I think The South Pacific's current military alignment is one that's healthy for both the region and the military moving forward. We're still active in operations on both sides of the field, we're widely regarded as one of the strongest R/D armies, and I think that this alignment helps us be an effective leader on the global scene.

Who do you view as our closest allies and how do you plan to advance those friendships?

How will you ease tensions and build a constructive relationship with regions that don't agree with us or naturally align with our interests? Will doing this be a focus of your term?

1. I think it's pretty well known by any semi-experienced GPer that the Gameplay forum is a cesspool of rhetoric and posturing. Our government members get into arguments because outsiders launch apocryphal broadsides at TSP and we have to respond. So, to be honest, I don't particularly share your concern on that matter, though I do think there’s time when we can afford simply to not engage. I can assure you that I don't care to bother replying to folks like OnderKelkia and NES, though, which in itself should get those types to stop perpetually bitching in our GP thread.

2. I think our closest allies are clearly the regions with whom we have treaties. I intend to advance those friendships further through means such as cultural cooperation, collaboration during NS Events, and R/D partnerships where the opportunities arise.

3. I don't particularly think we should be working to appease regions that won't be happy until we're under their thumb. As you say, they don't agree with us or align with our interests. However, I'm not keen on instigating more conflict, and I certainly plan to dedicate time this term to ironing out those situations to be a bit less volatile moving forward.

This is amazing @.@
I'm going to ask you questions later!
But you'll work well with the other cabinet members.

Escade and Glen, much like with SB and Vietnam, I'll try to get to your questions as soon as I can! Smile

Also, thanks Yuno! <3

Escade has, during her two terms, evolved a system wherein she put together a group of people (the MoFA Team) that discusses and makes FA decisions collectively, rather than her doing so unilaterally (though she still held veto powers). Would you continue that system? If so, what changes would you make to the membership of that team (currently Escade, Sandaoguo, Tim, Tsunamy, Drugged Monkeys, and myself)?

Hey Escade! It’s been an absolute pleasure being involved in TSP Foreign Affairs, and I’m hoping I’ll be able to continue putting in that work.

1:
I’m a big fan of the multi-layered structure we have set up. Having specific limited-access channels for each region we’re negotiating with, an FA Team area, Ambassador area, and general access lounge allows for having a really streamlined and efficient server that can be both productive and fun. There’s not too much I would change, as I think we have a pretty optimal structure, but I would like to be more on top of maskings, as well as finding an avenue for ambassadors to be able to be even more involved without over-saturating decision making.

2:
I think there’s a ton of cooperation avenues that can be had between our three ministries. I’ll break it into three sections, with potential FA/RA, FA/MA, and FA/RA/MA cooperation potential.

Foreign Affairs/Regional Affairs

In terms of FA/RA, I see a lot of potential in terms of organizing matters during festivals, smaller regional events, and larger NS events. Festivals with our allies and friends have been really successful in the past at growing stronger ties, and a ton of that can be credited to the hard work that organizers put into it. While I certainly plan to be on the front lines of organization, I would look to actively cooperate with the RA Ministry on coming up with and organizing things to do during these awesome festivals. In addition, in terms of what I mean by smaller regional events, if the RA Ministry has an event that’s on a smaller-scale than a festival that they would like to invite our friends abroad to (say a game of mafia or something), I’d be more than happy to execute that foreign outreach and help organize however I can. Regarding large-scale events, I think the combination of FA and RA can be fantastic on creating interregional partnerships like we saw during N-Day while also being able to reach out to our own region to get them fired up and involved for the event.

Foreign Affairs/Military Affairs

FA and MA are inherently tied together, given that R/D is one of the biggest ways to express regional power abroad. I’d make myself available for whatever the Military Affairs Ministry would wish for help with. I wouldn’t particularly want to take lead in these cooperations, as dictating military direction and operations is rather obviously part of the MA portfolio. However, I intend to  help with whatever foreign outreach the MA Ministry might want assistance with, and would be happy to recommend new military partners in whatever alignment they’d be sought from should the SPSF be looking for new partnerships.

Foreign Affairs/Military Affairs/Regional Affairs

This really didn’t need to be a section, but I wanted to theorize on how to have all three ministries cooperating in one fluid situation. I think a great scenario that this could happen in would be situations like the Defender Expo or the R/D Games. If TSP is hosting some sort of R/D based festival, you can have it be made up of both cultural elements and military elements. I’d want to work closely with both ministries in such a situation so as to ensure that our events that we organize are fun on both fronts, and that we have great TSP turnout for both front. In this situation, FA would be primarily organizing the outreach and inviting other regions to the festival, but I’d be free to help out with whatever RA and MA might need as well.

3:
In terms of Staff and Deputy, they'd obviously be people I'd need to be able to work with so as to effectively discuss matters and bounce ideas/statements/stuff off of them without issue. Past that, I really think the best thing of having a team is that they can all be parts of a whole, and I would look to ensure that our team is able to all have strengths that compliment each other and compensate for each others weaknesses. I think the team we had this past term did a really good job of that, and I'd definitely want to move forward with a similar effective set-up. You can have the objectively best people but they'd have no chemistry, and I want to ensure that we find that perfect middle ground between individual ability and team chemistry.

I would say that the various ideas I’ve outlined are all part of a greater vision which can be gleaned from reading my various replies as well as my opening post. However, I’ll expand on some of my thoughts and ideas more.

For starters, I think this version of the Ambassador Corps is going to be substantially more significant than prior versions. In our previous systems, and in most systems, Ambassadors worked as copy-pasters, regurgitating a massive foreign update that most people don’t read and can frequently be a pain in the ass reformatting for all the various forum hosts out there.

In the new system, we dispense with the tedious ultra-long updates and are now giving more creative control to ambassadors. By allowing them to format and write their mini-updates how they want, as long as they retain the primary material ordered for distribution, it allows for them to have a role in which they are actually valued and in which they’re able to have a more effective outreach with their assigned regions. It’s had a really positive initial reception, and I think that we can use this next term to continue growing and solidifying the program moving forward.

My vision for relations abroad is to further grow and establish connections with those whom we’re aligned culturally and are not at odds with politically. This by no means ties us to any specific R/D alignment, and I’m happy to grow connections with any regions that serve to benefit us and that respect our political and regional culture. I’m more than open to repairing any relations that may have been fractured, but there needs to be that TSP-benefit and respect for our region.

Ultimately, I want to continue growing our foreign influence and exporting our values to the greater NS World, so as to allow for us to grow further as a global leader on this game. My vision is a TSP with a host of genuine and beneficial connections, regular interaction and cooperation with our allies, and a perception from abroad that we are the global hegemon that I know we are.

I do intend to keep a system along the lines of the currently existing one, yes. I think having a team which can be used for decision making helps cut down on judgement errors, and allows for the most effective decisions to be made. In terms of the team membership, I can’t really say anything concrete on the makeup, but I’d be initially keeping the current lineup should all of them be willing to remain. In terms of additions or subtractions, it would be a matter of evaluating those involved in the FA Ministry and promoting individuals who clearly go above and beyond their duties and look capable of taking that step up in decision making. At the same time, in terms of subtractions, it would just be a matter of ensuring I’ve got an active team to rely on for contributions and ideas, with my activity expectations being relatively relaxed but still carrying an expectation that all team members would be capable of contribution.

Hi Tim — So, I don't think I said this publicly anywhere, but I'm quite glad your running for office. We def. need some new blood around here.

Also, I don't know if you noticed, but I'm been running a bit of an election campaign myself over here. As such, I was wondering if you have given any thoughts to a more RMB-inclusive FA and/or if you would be open to that in your upcoming term?

Hey Tsu, thanks for the well wishes! Sorry to see you withdraw, I was really looking forward to the race.

It's definitely hard to miss running against a name near-synonymous with The South Pacific, and I thought your campaign offered a lot of innovative outside-the-box ideas. I think RMB-inclusive FA definitely has merit to pursue as an outreach avenue. It'd definitely be great bridging communities on a more in-game level, so as to mix it up a bit from the usual politician talk. While I don't think it'll really be effective in fixing relations in places, as RMBers generally aren't the ones making FA calls, I really like it as a way to move forward with existing allies as well as prospective allies so as to get a better connection and understanding of their region (and theirs of us)
