SPSF's Annual Report #5

Annual Public Report Release #5
South Pacific Special Forces
17/9/2017 - 21/10/2017

Dispatch version

The mist of September and October flew by quite quickly and here we come again with the next annual report on the South Pacific Special Forces's activities during the past month. Then-Minister of Military Affairs Yuno continued to maintain the SPSF as an extraordinary feeder military denoted by the highest activity level out of all feeder military and a diverse set of operations that were planned and executed under her final term. Below is the analysis of all the notable events and statistics from the past month. As usual, the raw data is below for any nerd who is interested.

Activity
SPSF broke its own record of number of successful operations again with a count of 734, 126% higher than the previous month. USoVietnam, Escade, Roavin, and Yuno continued to be the most active members at the update count of 15, 15, 14, 11 respectively. The first three mainly participated in defending operations while the fourth participated mostly in tag raiding. That said, the general update participation rate dropped quite considerably compare to September, due to October being a busy month for most people in general.
In term of piling, Nakari, USoVietnam, and Roavin were the most active pilers at the pile count of 4, 4, 3 respectively. There was one rare occasion where the SPSF managed to deploy 10 pilers at once which is discussed below.

Operations
With 44 updates whose objective is defending, 13 updates whose objective is raiding, and a wide range of operations from raiding to chasing, the SPSF continued to maintain its military ideological state as "defender-leaning independent". SPSF was a little bit more defender than the previous month with the percentage of defending operations increased from 72% to 77%. The proper explanation would be the fact that our most active tagger, Yuno, became the delegate of The East Pacific which bared her from military gameplay temporary. The rest of the tagger force, Serres and USoVietnam had to fill in the vacancy but both of them weren't really active enough to maintain or improve the percentage of updates where we raid.

As shown by the chart below, tag raiding and tag defending continued to be the most common types of operations.

Tagging
With help from members of the small but capable military organization Lily, especially its founder and leader Liliarchy, the SPSF managed to pull out 383 tag raids and collected a number of tag embassies on its jump point Versailles Isle that surpassed 350 during the end of September, made SPSF the military with the third highest tag embassy count on NationStates, which was quite ironic considering the SPSF is a defender-leaning military. As usual, Yuno was the prominent face of SPSF's tagging operations. The average success rate was 62% with 34 hits and 20 fails per tag run, this trend has continued since the time tagging became a major part of the SPSF.

Chasing
With their speed, flexibility, and dedication, chasers in the SPSF have protected over 200 regions from getting vandalized by taggers. On average, we got 12 successful defenses and 12 fails per update, with the success rate of 58% (The average of all calculated success rates). Big props to Lily for being such a fast and impressive tagger force that truly challenged even the fastest chasers, the second props goes to the Black Hawks although those give-ups at 30 minutes mark and even at 10 minutes mark into the update painted a not-so-good picture about their stamina. One notable thing to talk about is that tagging was begged by chasers in 2017 while in 2016, it was the most annoying thing ever, as they worked so well as a tool for the art of stat padding.

Liberations
Over 28 regions were liberated from noob raiders with the endorsement level required for a successful liberation had been under 5. Big liberations were absent in last month despite there were 3 big raids during the period: The raid of Europeia, The North Pacific and allies on Singapore, Boston, and the raid of The Roman Empire, The Black Hawks, Europeia and several smaller raider and independent organizations on Africa. All of them had the endorsement level on their delegates of over 50 with the Africa one over 70 which effectively neutralized all liberation attempts from the defenders.

You may wonder why did the raid on Japan, which happened in mid-September, with the endorsement level of 49 was liberate-able. The condition necessary for a defender force of 50+ was presented at the time, as the raid on Japan happened on the weekend. The raids mentioned above happened on weekdays and defenders are notoriously known for having bad turnout on these days. One more reason is that per request from one of our most important allies, The North Pacific, the SPSF will need to not participate in any liberation attempt against their raid. The request was rightfully accepted as raids from independent militaries are known for lying outside of the griefing (destroy & re-found regions) territory unlike raids from most raider groups.

There was a medium-big raid on the region The Genesis Corporation by Lone Wolves United, The West Pacific and H Y D R A with the endorsement level of 17 that happened shortly before the release of this report. 12 hours later, a force of 17 defenders from Spear Danes-utilized militaries and 10000 Islands successfully liberated the raid. This was the only notable liberation in last month, defenders were truly lazy lately :p Also, this was a quite profound lesson that a raid lead should never sleep through the update as that makes defenders move into the target region harmlessly and therefore, ruins the raid. Don't ever underestimate the amount of endorsements defenders can pull out, but always underestimate their move+endo speed since it is miserable most of the time, which makes the banhammer the most effective tool to stop any liberation attempt

About the Genesis Corporation's Accidental liberation
While protecting natives is the job of defenders, this doesn't apply to invader, far-right and other kinds of regions with a nasty history however. The Genesis Corporation was quite controversial for the defenders to liberate since it was a nasty invader region, however it was too late when the commanders had realized this out and the liberation had already been executed. So this means the liberation shouldn't have happened in the first place but it accidentally happened.

About Lazarus
All attempts of the Resistance and the South Pacific's involvement on Lazarus's new regime to retake the region were dead as of October. The mission was considered to be a total failure. The main reasons according to some of the insiders are the lack of a clear, unified plan, incompetency of the Resistance themselves, and the lack of supports from other regions. The threshold of impossibility had been crossed long before the beginning of October which brought the mission to its conclusion.

Detags
For some truly unknown reason, SPSF participated in the detags on over 104 regions. Most of the detag moves were actually on trigger which provided valuable training for the skill of jumping, switching, and triggering. Most of the detags occurred on "dead updates", which are updates that don't have any raider activity.

Occupation raids
The last month was notable for the SPSF's effort with others against the far-right intolerance and hateful ideologies of Nazism and fascism. The stealth raid on Reichsfolk was one of the major successes in the Autumn fash-bashing season. Troops from The MT Army, the New Pacific Order, The Red Fleet and the SPSF, which acted collectively under a quasi-collective anti-Nazi group known as Ruining Nazi Sandcastles silently moved into the region as early as the beginning of September, disguised as pilers from far-right regions. The stealth worked so effectively well that one of the core Nazi members in the region got fooled and accidentally helped to pile the undercover delegate the offensive side put in earlier. On major update, 23/9/2017, the true force unveiled, when the Nazis realized that it was too late for them, and the region got passworded and re-founded faster than the Blitz. A wise man once said, it is only the matter of time before the doomsday of every Nazi region.

Another notable fash-bashing event was the re-found of the then-largest fascist region: Union of the Fascist Nations which contained over 400 nations at the time. The initial raid on Union of the Fascist Nations back in the end of May 2017 was conducted by an alphabetical soup of anti-Nazi regions with the New Pacific Order been the largest, led by the Joint Task Force and its former leader, August. The raid was the largest fash-bashing operation in 2017 with over 50 endorsements on the point nation and the purge of 400+ nations concluded just after 2 weeks since most nations in the region had considerably low influence. After that, an invisible password was placed on the region and marked a strategic victory for the fash-bashers. On some time near the end September, the region got re-founded silently by August himself, brought the operation to its final end, a total victory.

Piling
The past month was eventful when it comes to piling for the SPSF. We had two long-term piling operations during the period, one on the stealth raid of Reichsfolk and the "refound of the decade": Greece. SPSF, for the first time, managed to get more than 10 pilers for the operation that ended Greece's vulnerability before raiders for a long period of time. The operation was one of the largest defender piling operations with over 50 endorsements on the lead nation.

The hilarious failure of a rule-breaker in Greece
Greece was actually re-founded twice. The first attempt however, was performed illegally using WA multis by a now-WA-banned user named Yodle. The region was reversed to its original status by the moderators. After that, professional defenders came into the scene to show how a proper re-found should be done.

Speed
The SPSF continued to be the host of several of the fastest members on the defending side. All of the fastbois and fastgirls still were the familiar faces. The drop in the general update participation rate made the data available for the purpose of speed recording dipped considerably. We only have a few to commend in this month unfortunately.

Chase speed
During the past month, Roavin and Nineteen Lights were the best in the SPSF for the hardest skill to master in military gameplay, chasing, the stopping of tag raiders. Roavin and Nineteen Lights, both had an average chase speed of 2s and a maximum of 1s. Belong to the second position is USoVietnam with an average speed of 3s and a maximum of 2s, followed by Escade with 4s as the average and 3s as the maximum.

Move+endo speed
The liberation on The Genesis Corporation provided valuable data for judging the most necessary skill in the effort to battle against destructive raiding.  USoVietnam had the move+endo speed of 2s (However he accidentally endorsed the enemy delegate due a mistake) and Nakari had the number at 5s.

Chase+endo speed
There was no defense where the endorsement on the native delegate was necessary, so we don't have any data about this.

Military-related foreign affairs
Relations with defender and several independent military organizations were still alive and well. The Order of the Grey Wardens, The Rejected Realms Army, The Order of Pheonix, and Lily were the organizations that the SPSF worked the most with, with 43, 35 and 15 updates which SPSF had them as the collaborators respectively. Along side these familiar organizations, we also occasionally worked with Dragon Knights Of Aenaroth, 10000 Islands, FORGE (Federation of Organised Regions for Global Enlightenment), the newly emerging organization The Shining Host from Caer Sidi, and our new treaty-bounded ally, The Union of Democratic States, alongside several other organizations.

The story about defenders' subversion of the South Pacific is still going on although the heat has dropped considerably. We haven't loss any other ally since last month. (And if you have questions about Osiris's withdrawal of embassy, they were not an ally but just friend) More cooperation with the North Pacific and the East Pacific are to be expected as the new cabinet comprises of Tim Stark as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Escade as Minister of Military Affairs, two key characters when it comes to the SPSF, just swapped in.

Other than those, last month was not particularly interested when it comes to foreign affairs.

Conclusion
SPSF's awesomeness has continued to be maintained well and effectively since its revival by Imki in 2016. And it has got better under the term of our most lovely leader Yuno. We all hope the next cabinet of the South Pacific will continue to keep and improve the status of the SPSF as one of the most competent military organizations out there.
