[PASSED] Persona Non Grata Act
#11

I think that this is a fantastic piece of legislation that will further secure TSP, but I would qualify my support by suggesting that, in order to further check the use of the PNG upon legislators, the CRS must also approve declaring a TSP legislator PNG in addition to the Assembly.

I have zero interest in modifying this draft. Either it's motioned as is, or somebody else can take up the mantle. I think it's a perfectly reasonable law that has been asked for so many times I can't even count. I literally copied the way the PGO works. Bel is being thick-skulled in saying it's somehow different.

I wrote this simply because it was asked for and I said I would do it. I should have known that *me* writing this, even copying nearly verbatim how our existing PGO law works, it would end up being considered overboard and anti-democratic.

Please don't motion this as it is. You have two section 3s, and the 'the' in the South Pacific tends not to be capitalized in our laws. Change these if nothing else Tounge

If “The” isn’t behind capitalized, somebody is writing it incorrectly.

Anyway I have thoughts and ideas and such, I'll compile and post over the weekend (maybe today).

I cannot support this in it's current form because I do not agree with the ability for the cabinet to declare this for non-legislators without assembly approval.

This declaration can have incredible FA and political ramifications, and will mostly be a topic involving sensitive information so I can already picture an event like a treaty proposal where a declaration would be a surprise to the region, only in this case there would be no chance for legislature input except retroactively.

The Cabinet can, has, and will unilaterally affect FA. That’s what we elect them to do. I don’t get that criticism at all tbh. Elect a new Cabinet who will reverse a PNG declaration, just as you’d elect a new Cabinet that would reflect your FA preferences.

For example, Tim just unilaterally banned relations with The Roman Empire.

I was just using the FA analogy in the sense that I think the assembly should have final say in the process

I would support a draft that functions the way the legislature section is drafted but for everyone.

Why a final say in this particular thing, but not the dozens of other things we don’t put up to Assembly votes?
