[DISCUSSION] Getting more gamesiders to vote forumside.
#11

Maybe it's as simple as sending region-wide telegrams asking nations to become legislators once in a while.  Maybe someone should write a dispatch explaining the benefits as well.

@USoVietnam is spearheading a program to create a uniform dispatch service. I imagine once that's operational, the government will be publicising it as much a possible.

All of these are true. However, like Aiden said, the LC hasn't done a good job of that. So I think that the forumsiders should intervene.
I don't necessarily want to make gamesiders be active in the Assembly, etc.; that's a choice . I just think that we need to make more of them legislators. It's essential to our democracy.

Why have people join the Assembly if they aren't interested in it? We can't force people to take interest. We can be open and encourage people who do/might have interest, but we're never going to have everyone on gameside be interested in whats happening off-site. It's just not what most people play the game for. I'd bet that the government of the South Pacific has absolutely no impact on 95% of players in the South Pacific. I believe the stats are that 99% of nations just answer issues and make an RMB post occasionally.

I'm saying this as someone who spent seven years of my time on NationStates utterly disinterested in politics of any kind... I didn't care about governments, and it wasn't a serious issue for me that I never got involved in voting for the delegate of whatever sinker I happened to be in, because it didn't affect my game at all - I just needed to have a nation somewhere so I could talk to people.

It's good to encourage people, but not essential to push people who wouldn't be interested, and we will always have a very large majority not be interested, is what I'm saying.

The forum is every nightmare I’ve ever had: Big, and Bureaucratic, so that’s why I’m not here often.
(However, if you provide a forum link in the RMB, I will click on it).

Anyways, I have no solutions and you may go back to bureaucratizing.

These are all great ideas that I think will help.

I'm not targeting that 99%: I'm targeting that 4%. The people that are active gameside and know TSP, but aren't legislators. Those are the people I want.

This is the answer i've gotten from a lot of RMBers, and we should fix that and try to make the forums more welcoming.

We should continue to do so, yes, but, by the very nature of what we do here, we're always going to be big and bureaucratic to those for whom that isn't really their scene.

Also, was my LC suggestion ludicrous and unworthy of comment, or did everyone just miss it...?

Everyone missed it I think; just reread it, both great ideas.

Our major problem is not to tell gamesiders to join but to integrate gamesiders that are interested in the forum. I can’t imagine how many have been driven away by our terrible forum organization and integration. Please recognize our true problem. You can start by asking why dozens of gamesiders that are interested in the forum signed up for legislatorship then left the forum a month later. We really don’t have anything to translate dozens of pages of laws to something people can consume. This is an equivalence of trying to sell a software with only its source codes to common users.

That probably strengthens the need of an initiative through dispatches.  In order for gamesiders to join, we need to help guide them through it all.

This has been an interesting read so far.

Generally, I think we could all do more to get some of the gamesiders involved, and, for me, it could/should predominantly fall on the LC, MoRA and Delegate. It's difficult though, I've seen a few people now swim through treacle on this and any attempt needs to be applauded.

Could our current LC do more on integration? probably... is that a criticism? Nope. They've got a lot of their own things to do, like get their own legislation in order first. If the LC want assistance in brining discussions gameside there's enough of us here to help on that, they can ask or we can offer.

Someone earlier said, sorry I can't remember who, it's been a while since someone said the gamesiders think. The discussions on the change to delegate criteria is one example where I've seen it recently. But for the most part, yep I agree. Seraph' s LC suggestion of an Assembly member is a good one to overcome this issue but it was thrown out by the assembly a while back, as being unnecessary/unfair? Wasn't it?

I also agree that the boards can be unwieldy but oft I think that's a product of a government/bureaucracy. Any attempt to simplify, streamline is likely to be a massive task and a long term project. Probably many more hours than we have between us. But maybe there more signposting, Pr and colour that could be used to make it easier to navigate as a quick fix? (Says he with very little understanding of how the board actually works)

I remember joining the assembly and spending a good few evening's trying to fit everything together. Does a mentoring programme sound like an option on this?

I'd also float a simplification of dispatches on these matters. There's great stuff in there, but sometimes it's info overload. (Someone mentioned it as a wall) That might be an easier start?

I do feel we've got 95% of the stuff already there, it's just that last 5%
