90 years of airline excellence.
The story of Belmont Airways.

Belmont Airways (originally Mellon Air Lines) was founded on December 17, 1928 by famous banker George Mellon in Belmont, Bzerneleg. The company all began during a period which was defined by innovation and prosperity. As the rate of global interactions and transactions of goods grew faster than ever, faster transportation had become an imperative.

Amazed by the idea of the first national airline, Mellon took use of his wealth to acquire 10 de Haviland DH.18 airplanes for 3 million Bzerne Francs (US$44.8 million in 2019). Mellon Air Lines soon became the largest airline operator in Bzerneleg.

A few years after its establishment, Mellon Air Lines invested 20 million Francs into the first major commercial airport in Bzerneleg's capital of Belmont. Capitalizing on the company's gaining reputation, Mellon renamed the airline into Belmont Airways.

Seen by many as one of the country's most successful companies in the 1930s, Belmont Airways caught the eyes of investors from various sectors. In 1932, such investors gathered around the table to make a total investment of more than 100 million Francs. Although the airline industry was largely affected during the Great Depression years, good management and maintained cashflow allowed Belmont Airways to reach the billion dollar milestone at the end of 1940.

It generated millions of Francs in profits, further consolidating Belmont Airways' position as the premier airline in Bzerneleg. The beginning of a new decade marked a transformation of the Belmont Airways' operations. In 1940, the airline launched its private flight program. Being the first of its kind, this exclusive program served Belmont Airways' closest clients who wanted an experience found nowhere else.

At the end of the South Pacific's Great War, Belmont Airways made its first appearance on the world stage after helping to transport around 60,000 refugees from all corners of the region to Bzerneleg. It also assisted the Bzerneleg Armed Forces during the war in logistics, for which George Mellon received his Medal of Honour from the President of Bzerneleg.

In 1955, the new La Première travel class was for the first time added to Belmont Airways flights. A combination of elegance and comfortability, its addition brought passengers one step closer towards a truly remarkable flying experience.

Later into the decade, the airline made history after becoming the first Bzerne air operator to have a destination outside of mainland Bzerneleg. A new, colourful de Haviland DH.106 took off from Belmont and landed on Campbell Island, Bellevue Islands. The flight was later televised on national television and chosen as one of the ten biggest events in the 1950s.

If there is a quote that can more capture the Bzerne spirit, it's this: "Life ain't nothin' but a series of bumps! Don't get grumpy, just give it a jump!"*  The 1960s were unfortunately marked by downfalls and accidents. After the passing of then-Managing Director Herbert Smythson, the search for a replacement was left unfinished. That, as a result, caused a downgrade in organization and service and slowing sales.

This did not stop untiI in 1965, former board member and President of Bzerneleg Hannah Gutzwiller agreed to return to the company as its leader, but with a new title. Under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Gutzwiller, Belmont Airways initiated the "Your Home in the Sky" program. Hoping to create a more cozy and worry-free atmosphere through the home-style redecoration of airplanes, it brought back more than billions of Francs in revenue.

As the social and economic differences between the upper and middle classes got slimmer day by day, the demand for higher-end products and services had risen dramatically. To accommodate such changes, a new travel class called "Pullman" was added to the flight system. More refined yet still affordable, the Pullman class was a popular option for those who wanted to take a step further in their flying experience without worrying about overly high costs.

Sitting lounges, among other features, were added onto Belmont Airways airplanes for middle-range and long-range flights as part of the enhancement of the Your Home in the Sky program. The 1970s were known as a decade of music, and this airline did not shy from it either. Multiple rock and jazz bands were invited to travel on board airplanes during special occasions like Christmas and perform, something found nowhere else.

Here at Belmont Airways, we are no strangers to breaking milestones. First Bzerne airline to reach a billion Franc in market capitalization. Transporting 60,000 refugees to safety. And now, helping a hand to achieve gender equality. In 1980, the airline became the first public company in the history of Bzerneleg to have a gender-equal Board of Directors and Executive Board.
