[IC] 2019 Basketball World Cup (women's)
#11

Like expected the team from Hazelbrust was advancing to the quarter finals, seeing that basketball is one of their most popular sports. The big "party mile" set up at the biggest beach of the country was one celebrating mess.
The Gianlucians however were quite disappointed by the end of the tournament for the team before reaching the K.O.-stage. "We didn't do enough as it seems", top player Nikita Rany commented on the situation.

HUAWAN WOMEN'S ADVANCES TO QUARTERFINALS

The women's basketball team of Huawan had just advanced to the Quarterfinals after sailing past its opponents in the group stages. While this is a major milestone for Huawan, the players had received an earful from Women's Basketball Coach, Kara Shinozaki.

"We may have won most of the matches, although the point differential is something that I do not take lightly. A defensive position is welcome, but we must make more scores if we are to extend our lead," said Coach Kara Shinozaki, "nevertheless, we ask for your prayers and support for the upcoming matches."

9 and 10 July 2019 results

Transcript of the FiHami–Valkyria match:
Lauryn Bishop (KTN Sports): Burns has the ball. 48 seconds on the clock. The game is tied at 109 apiece.

Evan Hernandez: Burns shoots from three—she scores!

FIH leads 112–109 at 0:28.9

VAL timeout

EH: Obviously, Valkyria will have to go for the three, but FiHami could attempt to foul to make Valkyria only go for two.

LB: That would be a risky play for FiHami because Valkyria could sink the first free throw and either Acker or Boehm could rebound and tie the game. Remember Game 3 of Stockholm–Chicane?

EH: If there is no foul attempt from FiHami, who would they depend on for that important shot?

LB: The best three-point shooter last season was Stockholm's Katelynn Hudson, but the best clutch shooter on this team is the captain, Kala Wolfe from Darwin. The ball will go to one of them.

Timeout ends

EH: Inbound only seconds away...Boehm gets the ball to Hudson. FiHami's not fouling. Time running down.

LB: Pass to Calderon and now to Wolfe—Burns on her—shoots! Oh my gods!

Game tied 112–112 at 0:04.7

FIH timeout

EH: Did that just actually happen? Kala Wolfe sunk a three-pointer—heavily guarded by Tasha Burns!

LB: That's why she was last season's MVP. Nobody in the WVBL had an answer for Wolfe and for her to manage to get that shot in, despite Burns' best efforts, proves that she is one of the best in the world.

EH: The crowd here is packed with Valkyrians cheering their team and Wolfe is trying to get the team past the quarterfinals.

LB: Is it me or has this crowd been standing this entire quarter?

EH: You're not alone, it's been a close game all night and we are close to a possible overtime.

Timeout ends

LB: FiHami's Wright will inbound the ball.

EH: Out to Tai'iri—shoots—oh my gods!

FIH leads 115–112 at 0:00.0

EH: The refs are gonna have to take a look at this to make sure if Tai'iri's shot came in time, but it looks like it did. If they don't overturn the shot, Valkyria's out.

LB: Valkyria United is distraught. They thought they were going to overtime. This crowd has gone silent after Tai'iri sunk the three.

EH: Let's look at the replay—oh, that shot was good. The refs won't overturn it.

LB: It's over.

EH: That was a quick and easy decision. The refs are allowing that shot. FiHami wins an upset over Valkyria.

LB: FiHami's playing Sedunn in the semifinals.

"I... couldn't have expected that..."
"Wait WHAT???"
"[redacted]"
"Ki'a Ha'Finix..."

It almost seems that none of FiHami's women's team could breathe, let alone realize that they are, in fact, victorious following the intense quarterfinals match against Valkyria.

"The girls weren't expecting a win from today, that's for sure. But we can't get comfortable now, because we still have the semi-finals against Sedunn next." The coach of the team said. "I've definitely learned not to doubt our girls' ability today."

Huawan went and scored against Rebeltopia in the match, it was a seesaw and an all-out battle for scores. With Huawan qualifying in the semifinals against Fauderland soon, it is not a time for Huawan to relax.
"Let's do our best!" said Hana Park, Captain of the Huawan's BWC 2019 team.

Tasha Burns is being sent home for suspected misconduct and endangering a life. Ha'Coron' Finix urges law enforcement for an investigation to take place regarding the incident with Fi'Shi "Flamey" Skyak after Point Guard Ekuna Li'anuke found a "weird-smelling" bottle in Burns' luggage.

No official comments have been made as of yet. Ahi Fiorst will be replacing Burns for the final match.

Huawan scores third, misses finals.

After a defeat against Fauderland in Valkyria, a third rank match between Huawan and Sedunn continued. As fans clenched their fist on hopes to attain bronze in The South Pacific Basketball World Cups, the team managed to attain a slight difference in scores against Sedunn.

"We could lift our heads high in gratitude for attaining third place, and there is certainly room for improvement." Said coach Kara Shinozaki, "I'm glad that our ladies managed to perform above and beyond in this tournament, and we have gathered enough data for next year's tournament."

As the team celebrated attaining their bronze, Stream, and Huawan chatting system "SinoTalk" were flooded with expressions. While some expressed displeasure of the team not gaining a higher standing in the championship, most wished luck for the team in future matches.

"Is not reaching the finals a disappointment? There is a possibility of us reaching the finals, and unfortunately, the probability wasn't in our hands that day." Responded coach Kara, "we did our best, and we can continue to grow. Thank you for your support!"
