FWIW (the two of you are free of course to continue debating this) my interest was only in terms of the WA, not the SC.

I'm talking regions, not individuals. Neither Balder or TNP gives a damn for the pretend UN, but they do have significant interests in the SC due to it's Gameplay powers.

The recommendations and sponsorships of the League will be decided by individuals, however, and those individuals so far are active members of the GA. It's not impossible to think that GA players can use Gameplay politics to their advantage.
