As with Laz, I'm not against a NAP, per se, but I'm not sure why we'd engage here. Unless there was a massive turnover of the leadership ... aren't these the people who screwed us before?

First, yes, there was a massive turnover in leadership.

When the events of November 2018 happened, Aleisyr abdicated in favor of East Durthang aka Lord of Darkness (LoD), a move which has (probably accurately) been called "corporate being called in". LoD has been a fixture of non-NationStates NPO branches and brought with him an established track record (from other realms) of banning any "subversive" activity that are not part of that particular game's mechanics; if that was an intentional PR move or a fortunate side effect, I cannot say, but either way it was a move that directly addressed the main criticism that had been levied against NPO after the reveal of "Task Force Lazarus".

The Senate is largely different as well. Aleisyr, Pergamon, Svez are gone. Elegarth (who had been a vocal critic of "Pergamon's NPO") is now Regent. There are people like Xoriet (who we all know from being a huge fixture of TEP back in the day) and Marina in the Senate now. It really is a different crowd.

Second, they didn't screw us before. There was the canary trap thing that we should have been notified of, but even considering that (inconsequential) incident, I cannot recall any situation both before and after where NPO did not act with benign intent toward us in the past 4 years.

I'm going to bold the section that I think is especially important here. Frankly, I have no interest in rehashing what happened with out previous relations and who was right or wrong about it and don't remember enough to engage there. But, at the end of the day, we ended up repealing a treaty because the Pacific was an unreliable partner. Fair or not (and whether or not it was consequential to NSGP), it was something that was disruptive to our region and, as such, I think it's important to consider. Fool us once, shame and you; fool us twice shame me us.

That said, I appreciate the explanation and feel much more comfortable knowing Elegarth and Xor are in the mix there now.

Fully support this, the changes they have made seem to be genuine. They have had time to settle in and begin to show us what a modern NPO looks like.

From my limited experience I do feel that they could become a more reliable friend of TSP going forward and we have more shared values now than perhaps we did at other times in the past. But irrespective of that this is a logical step for us.

Can we make this a probationary start? Like we will work this for a bit and then revisit it for a more concrete yes at this set time?

Can we make this a probationary start? Like we will work this for a bit and then revisit it for a more concrete yes at this set time?

I mean anything we agree to does require this body's consent before approval but I would be happy to come back in two weeks and revisit where we are with the NPO.

I misread what Pen was suggesting. That said, I do think giving this a sundown clause might be an interesting/useful addition — I believe we had done that with Spiritus at one point as a way to keep connections active.
