RA Reboot - Preparing Things for a Decision
#11

I'm not voting carelessly. I've been at this for well over a decade. Also this is irrelevant to the main topic.

Could there be something that makes me change my mind to the other? or realize both are trash proposals? or both have too many good aspects about each of them? Sure.

Until then, Omega's proposal to me, makes the most sense. I'm not going to spend weeks or months studying current law, past law, proposed law, debates, how TSP does things, how everyone's political personalities are effect how things are done.

Looking back, I was under the impression that you meant something different by this, that you didn't know anything about this specific law rather than the people and the personal interests involved in each one and how we do law generally.

Sorry, I just read that wrong...

The result of the poll has not changed in some twenty-four hours so I assume that this will be roughly representative of what this body would like to see.

Given that two-thirds of the Assembly are in favour of a split — be it Qwert/Omega's proposal, Jay's suggestion, or both — would the lead authors of the two amendments be open to a compromise which would see a unified final proposal presented for an official vote?

I believe there was an idea to do a three-way split as opposed to Omega's four-way split or Jay's two-way split. Agalaesia was working on that, I think?

Is there any active movement on this matter or can others take it up?

Before we truly do run out of time on this (before the election at least), does anyone want to make any last comments or amendments on the proposals put forward?

Then perhaps an up/down vote(s) on the proposals presented?

Or have we lost all drive to finish it at this time? Tounge

I think we are perhaps too close to the next election so any discussion is being put off until that is finished?

I wonder whether it would be preferable for all parties involved to take two rounds of voting?:

(1) The first round will be to settle which proposal (Omega/Qwert's or Jay's) we are most supportive of; and

(2) The second round is whether to adopt this proposal or keep with the status quo.

I'm not personally all that happy with any of the options currently on the table. I think they all need work to make the best of them, but I don't think anyone has the emotional energy to do that right now. I know I certainly don't - besides, I need to keep out of the debate. There might be some value in putting a hold on things with the very clear understanding that it does not mean those who want a split have given up or conceded defeat, nor that interest in a split has faded away, but that there needs to be a bit of time to regroup before fine-tuning the legislation, or providing alternative options which will enable the Assembly to vote on the best possible piece of legislation for the purpose, which will make any result, in favour or opposed, much more meaningful.

I worry, at the moment, that we'll just sleepwalk into a half-hearted vote which doesn't really serve any party well - pro-splitters because it'll likely lose, or win them a rubbish split that gets justifiably reversed down the line and anti-splitters because nothing will really have been decided and the status quo will linger a little while only for the debate to erupt again further down the line.
