Daily News of Hintonia

Some of the more hardlined conservatives in the Centrist party have left, joining the actual conservative party. This is largely because the president has been enacting new social policies to stop crime before it happens, and jacking up taxes. This caused the conservatives to go berserk and claim it is nothing but 'tyranny and extortion, because Hintonians should be free to live their lives without big brother pushing them one way or another.'

Now, for the longest time, even the president in his supposedly center part has been a little right leaning, valuing the freedom of his citizens over overall safety. But lately, seeing the insurgencies and potential conflict crop up, he's wanted a clean a nation as possible in case of emergency. But this has seemed to have the opposite effect that he wanted, as it just drove hard-line libertarian and right groups deeper into their dogma.

Now the president barely holds a majority in the Senate, and with the occasional party member voting astray, it makes things difficult. His new reform bill on prisons even got denied, twice, before some tactical suckering up finally made it pass.

Tensions increase even more, as a foreign pharmaceutical company goes bottom up, leaving most of the country without reliable access to medicine. As a result, the president deemed it a national emergency and used his presidental powers to instantly push through the 'Nationalized Health and Welfare Act', nationalizing the pharmaceutical industry. Well, only the gap the foreign country left behind. But still, seeing the president to go as far as state run industry worked the conservatives into a frenzy, and they've started a vote to impeach him. Seeing how crazy they are, some of the president's former path members have rejoined him, saying they prefer him over the megamaniac, O'creed.

On the sidelines, GID-20 case growth has slowed down significantly, only increasing to 2042 cases by today. Only around three dozens deaths, and maybe 40 recovered (only 13 show signs on immunity) . Testing has continued on the plasma of immune Hintonians, as most of it is used for transfusions, but some of it is kept for sequencing to try and get which antibody, if any, is now causing the people to become immune.

Conservatives and their supporters rallied and marched in the capital today, hoisting signs like 'Down with Big Brother!' and 'Let us decide our fate!'. Most of these people were just protesting the tax raise social programs require, not the policies themselves. No matter, over 50,000 people attended the march and they paraded right up to the Presidental Estate. Then, by loudspeaker, the former senator Paulrice de Gaffe, starting espousing anti liberal propoganda and calling out the president for 'abusing his power over the people' and 'trying to start a dictatorship. The president, in his nonchalant sort of way, marched outside his house to the gates, and had his guards made a circle around him. He then walked straight up to the podium where Paulrice was to talk to him in person. "At least I don't have to sleep with the whole Senate just to pass a bill."

You could hear a pin drop. Paulrice turned red, and starting mustering an angry response, but the president cut him off. "Also, I still have a wife." Paul exploded into anger and lunged at the president. Markeretik was no weak man, and he literally swept up Paulrice in his arms and held him above his head like a squirming child. He then addressed the crowd. "THIS HAS GONE ON FOR TOO LONG. THIS EVIL MAN HSS BRAINWASHED YOU, INTO BELIEVING NOT HIM, BUT I, AM THE ONE WANTING A DICTATORSHIP. THIS IS A LIE. THIS MAN IS AS CORRUPT AS IT GETS, AND WANTED NOTHING MORE BUT TO CONTROL THE SENATE AND HAVE TOTAL POWER." He then set Paulrice down, and walked through the crowd with his guards. Many of Paulrice's more crazy supporters tried to assault his guards, but they stood strong and escorted the president home. Now, the streets are just about ready to explode. Neo Nazis and alt right demogauges stand in the street, espousing vile accusations at the whole president and his cabinet. People are rioting, and some people, swept up in the crowd and in the frenzy, have no idea what is going on. But they partake, because surely it must be something worthwhile to elicit this. The capital seems to be ready to explode.

Police and SWAT close off the streets to all the administration buildings, locking shields like the Ancient Ancestors of Hintonia locking in a shield wall, holding back Invaders. Except this time it is their own people.

An angry mob coeleased in a planned peaceful March in Valencia, but that went out the window when the mob tried to batter through the shield wall of police on Vicken Street. The rioters were yelling and pumping their fists in the air angrily. This went on for about two hours, before some insurgent threw a lot Molotov Cocktail into the police line. It was chaos. The police screamed and dropped their shields, rolling along the floor, trying to put themselves out. Many rioters met the same fate, and those who tried to rush in the gap also were lit. The line of National Guardsmen, called at the start of the day, looked up and saw the sillhouette on the rooftop, hefting another lit Moltov, and panicked. They fired a ragged volley at the insurgent, and he fell tumbling into the street below.

This time it was even worse. The man had been carrying multiple pre made molotovs on him, so when he hit the street, everything around him caught fire. The rioters ran, some on fire, away from the police line. Some middle age man, heroically rushed into the burning mass of bodies with a fire extinguisher and sprayed it everywhere, saving many lives. Sadly though, the incident wasn't without losses. Two police officers and seven rioters burned to death before being put out, another officer and 11 more rioters died from their wounds in the hospital, and about a dozen more has serious burns all over their body.

The Conservatives tried to pin it on the National Guardsmen, saying they purposely shot down the man to burn the protestors. There was, however, several hundred recordings from people's phones that told a different story. When confronted with this evidence, Paulrice and O'creed just denied it and vowed vengeance for this massacre of Hintonian Citizens.

The southern province of Valencia has been formally annexed by the new 'Hintonian Provisional Government' formed by the alt right. Their leader is none other than Provisional Marshall de Graffe, the same one that Markeretik had humiliated at the march in the capital. Also, some federal troops have defected to the rebellion, and dubbed themselves the Hintonian People's Freedom Army. However, the president has denounced this new government and says any member of it will be tried for treason and locked away. Federal forces retain control of the capital and the surrounding regions, while the rebels hold Valencia and many small towns in the hills.

Out of the 1.2 million active service members of the Hintonian Military, about 250k have defected and taken their equipment with them. However, analysts say that the Rebels lack much industrial power, as they have failed to capture the capital. It is this predicted that if the federals can hold the capital, eventually their Proffesional army will best the unequipped and untrained militia that the Rebels are likely to draw up. Rebel forces do control some of the Navy though, as 4 cruisers and 12 destroyers were docked in Valencia at the time of the rebellion.

Reserves are being activated within the army, and it is expected within the next few days or so, another 100k reservists will be available for active duty. There is already reports of sporadic fighting in the streets of Valencia, as the remaining loyal Garrison of the city is besieged inside the City Hall, as well as reports of clashes in the hills between the National Guard and Freedom Army.

Fighting rages on near the capital, as the rebels try and make a push through the side of the defences to reach the port district of the capital. They are making progress, as the Federal troops can't really stand strong against the ferocious and indoctrinated rebel forces. If they had some armor support, they might be able to stand strong, but as it is the armor is already tied up halting a rebel offensive in the center. Since Provisional Marshall de Graffe ordered conscription of every male in his territory age 20-40 into his army, He has no shortage of cannon fodder. While the federals have less intense conscription, calling for 200k men from age 20-35 to voluntarily join, but if not enough volunteer selective service shall be enacted.

During the fighting, factories have reopened and society is slowly beginning to churn. In the army of both sides though, GID-20 runs rampant, as war time conditions means low hygiene and poorly sealed food. It is estimated the GID cases jumped by around 200 just in the first half a day of fighting. No exact number of infected is known, but it seems to be around 2500 by now.

The president of the Federal government proudly announces foreign support of two infantry and armor divisions from Iya are expected to arrive within the next couple of days. That is, if the port hasn't fallen by then. In the hills, things seem to be going better, as Hintonia's dedicated Ranger Corp refused to turn their back to the government they swore duty to. The highly disciplined rangers make almost gurilla warfare against poorly disciplined rebel columns. Thanks to their efforts, most of the small towns and hilly areas of the North of the country were held, and can be used as staging grounds for assaults down to the southwest mountain ridge, striking at the industrial base of the rebellion.

The rebel offensive has been halted, thanks in part to the Hintonian Airforce, which despite enemy anti aircraft fire pulled off daring attack runs at advancing rebels. Their offensive has been halted, for now, making quite the salient in the southeast flank of the capital. In other news, the president has sent bombers to Rebel Controlled Valencia, but not filled with bombs. But with pamphlets. Pamphlets advising the residents to flee the city and make it to federal lines, to avoid abuse and conscription. About one hundred civilians decided to try and make the dash out of the city. They were caught... And shot. Noone else has tried to flee since.

The navies of both forces met on the seas last night, and tragedy struck. It would appear the rebel fleet is larger than previously thought, and most of the unexpected ships don't match normal Hintonian designs. It would appear they had outside help, or at least purchased submarines and destroyers from foreign countries. This rebel fleet was still smaller than the Federal one, but maybe by 20 ships. One of the submarines managed to slip past the screen of federal ships and landed two torpedos amidships on the Heavy Cruiser, Warrior. Warrior was the pride of the fleet, commissioned during President Hiesce's time. It's been in the fleet for 40 years, and with glowing fire illuminating it's hull, went down in under an hour. The Warrior had 982 men aboard, only 351 of which escaped. Besides that, the rest of the battle went well. Since the Rebels lacked any Naval Airforce to speak of, the Aircraft Carriers Vengeance, Providence, and Independence managed to bomb over 20 targets with their Naval Bombers, sinking 7. Overall the federal fleet lost 4 destroyers, and one light and heavy cruiser. The rebels lost 12 subarmines, 3 cruisers, and 4 destroyers.

On the rural front, the Ranger Corp linked up with a previously thought lost army unit and together they made an advance along the mountains, getting airdropped supplies. They are now holed up in an Ancient fortress overlooking the plains, getting radioed that reinforcement shall arrive soon, and to sit tight. Since then, the angry rebels ordered an attack on their position, in retribution for rebel units ambushed. They've yet to breach but who knows how long they can hold before the main force arrives for a push in the west.

The expeditionary forces from Iya have arrived, two armored and two infantry divisions. The armor was sent to the ailing southwest flank to stiffen the defense. When the rebels awoke to renew their attack that morning, they are greeted with the sight of looking down Iyaian tank barrels. Their attack failed, miserably, and the rebels retreated back, to their original defensive lines. The other two infantry divisions are being sent in the west to combine with Hintonian forces for a land and air assault on rebel lines, to try and break through and push south, encircling the forces holding the Rangers under siege. Already they seem to be punching through, although at a steep cost as the rebels are fighting tooth and nail. Any conscripts who didn't immediately surrender stayed down in their trenches and dugouts, suicide charging passing Federal Units. The toll was and still will be heavy on each side, the federals loosing thousands that day to the determined and indoctrinated rebels. The president officially enacted selective service, with a unanimous vote from the Senate.

In the air, the war isn't completely dominated by the federals now. Their was a sizeable air Garrison in Lindonport of fighters and naval bombers, and although they lack blueprints to make more, they've been making the Hintonian Naval Airforce pay prices for every plane shot down. Speaking of Navy, a rear admiral overcome with grief for the loss of the pride of the fleet, which several of his relatives served on, went AWOL, charging his small battlegroup of 2 cruisers, 9 destroyers and 3 subs directly into Valencia Harbour. However, due to some mad luck, all the rebel forces were rearming and repairing in the harbour. This small group of 14 ships wreaked havoc among the docked ships, sinking 4 patrol boats and 5 destroyers, and damaging over a dozen. Then, as the rebels began to fire back, the AWOL admiral just slipped away and back to the main fleet. He was going to be court martilled, but amazing, the President himself stepped in and gave this man a promotion, for his outstanding bravery and bold tactical decision to strike early. He is now an admiral. His sailors of his flagship dub him, 'Admiral Ballsy'

All outward communication ability from the capital has been knocked out for the past day, as the rebels somehow managed to infiltrate a high security Airforce base and commandeer multiple NX-400 Rocket Interceptors, and inject an autopilot program to ram them into all the Radio Towers in Hintonia City. Hintonian High Command could barely manage a radio message to the troops, much less civilian news outlets broadcast worldwide. It is suspected the rebels had an inside man to both let them on the base and know how the software works.

In other news, in a daring drop behind rebel lines, a division of Hintonian Paratroopers dropped behind the enemy, near the town of Glendale. Capturing Glendale and subduing it's tiny Garrison, the Paratroopers moved north to link up with the main force and encircle the rebel units outside the old fortress. Together with the Hintonian Airforce, they squeezed the rebels further into the pocket before they finally surrendered. This has put the rebel forces to the west and northwest of the capital, surrounding it, in danger of being pincered from both sides. This the rebels pulled out of trying to encircle the capital, while still keeping a border on it to the southeast. Several probing airstrikes and fake assaults seem to indicate the rebels need about 2-3 days to fully fortify their positions to the point of making assaults without armor useless.

As to the GID situation, all data from rebel controlled areas and can be only estimated, but the northern provinces alone have as many cases as the whole country just a few days ago, while estimations suggest the rebel provinces have around 1600 cases. That brings the estimated total cases up to around 4000. The president has already started a movement in Senate to increase funding for packaging and disinfecting army food. The vote is tommorow.

The bill to improve packaging on army food passed, no big surprise. Most of the opposition left to join the rebellion after all. This new bill means soldiers will be at less risk to disease, but it increases overall supply costs, making moving a large force harder.

Speaking of large forces, after the recent rebel pullout from the capital line, that large relief force of men hasn't moved from the west flank, in fact they've launched another assault into rebel lines. But it stalled short, due to a force of questionably assembled tanks blocking the path. Most of them seem to be tractors with corrugated steel plates welded on in slopes, with a 78mm field gun strapped on top, with an improvised turret. But some of them seem to be old but purpose build tanks, the old GB-Cruiser model from 30 years ago. The army abandoned those with the introduction of Depleted Uranium Armor, making heavy steel armor obslete. Well it seems the rebels managed to get some of the old things running, and although their 127mm guns aren't anything to Scoff at, Sabot rounds from Paked 120mm AT guns easily piece them.

With the western offensive stalling, the military looks east again where the rebels only are just now digging in. With the help form Foreign Armor, they make a punch through the line of conscripts. The rebels, beside their defected Proffesional army, have almost no AT to speak of. The tanks help make a push as the infantry clear the barely dug trenches. It seems that Paulrice is starting to panick as the federals push farther, and he calles to conscript men 18-50 in his army. He's he's also forcing women into factories to produce inexpensive and shoddy bolt action rifles for his army of conscripts. It's estimated that the rebel 'Freedom Army' now holds over 3.5 million men, while the federals have are only just now fully mobilizing, currently at around 1.5 million service members.
