Vote Jay — Building our Future

BUILDING OUR FUTURE
---

Now you've really done it, exclamation point. I told you all I wasn't going to run, but here I am about to explain why you should vote for me for Minister of Foreign Affairs. Not gonna lie, the only foreign affairs experience I have is organizing Pacific-Con, but I have voiced my vision in the Assembly, whether on the forum or in #legislators-lounge.

So let's go through this vision.

---
RAPPROCHEMENT AND RECONCILIATION
---
---
---— The South Pacific will continue to thaw its relations with other regions
---

As the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the South Pacific will pursue a policy of rapprochement and reconciliation with other regions. In the previous term, we broke the ice that existed between us and two GCRs, the New Pacific Order and Osiris. Let it be known, this policy applies to all GCRs and other regions if they are willing to engage in good faith. This policy will not apply to regions proscribed by the South Pacific or vice versa.

---
INTERREGIONAL DEVELOPMENT
---
---
---— The South Pacific will build on its existing relationship with its allies and friends
---
---— The South Pacific will hold more interregional cultural events
---

The South Pacific will also continue fostering and developing its cordial relationships with its allies and friends. The friendship we maintain with regions such as the North Pacific and the Union of Democratic States is mutually essential to our regions' safety and security. We are the Sregguh Pacific, and we will share our hugs with the world, whether they want them or not. Take it, NPO!

In the previous term as Minister of Regional Affairs, I worked with Omega to organize Pacific-Con, which turned out to be a tremendous success. While we shouldn't expect another Pacific-Con for another year, that doesn't mean we shouldn't hold another interregional event in the next term. I will work with the next Minister of Regional Affairs in organizing more of these events.

---
DEFENDERS BLOC
---
---
---— The South Pacific will build a bloc for defenders in the World Assembly Security Council
---

As the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the South Pacific will engage in deliberations with defender regions to build a bloc in the World Assembly Security Council to represent the interests of defenders. If elected, the pursuance of a defender bloc in the World Assembly will take precedence in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Last year, we made the decision to officially become defenders. This year, we will work on building a bloc for defenders.

---
CONCLUSION
---

That's it, exclamation point. That's my campaign. The fact that you've read through this message and made it to this point is astonishing because it means that you are actually considering voting for me. I don't quite know what to say about that. I suppose I could say that I have charisma, but I already knew that. For whatever reason, I have a vested interest and passion for the South Pacific, which is why I have decided to run for office.

The choice is yours whether you wish to elect me as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. I have been brutally honest this entire time, probably to my own detriment, but that may very well be the reason you are considering voting for me. If that is the case, thank you for your consideration. I am happy to serve the South Pacific in whatever capacity you elect me to, whether that was as the Minister of Regional Affairs in February or now as the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Again, thank you for your consideration.
Vote Jay for Minister of Foreign Affairs.

What specifically will the defender bloc do and what regions do you expect to be included?
How do you make sure it won’t tick off some drama from our non-defender allies?
How do you plan to integrate our involvement in the bloc with OWL?
Why do you think we and defender sphere in general is in need of a WA bloc?
What new regions do you want us to have a treaty with?
What is your plan to get more new members into the ministry and foster future leaders?

This bloc that I'm aiming to form will serve as a tool for each region to deliberate and discuss resolutions in the Security Council and whether we shall vote in unison. At the very least, this bloc should be composed of regions which we currently have a treaty with, which would be The Rejected Realms, 10000 Islands, the UDS, and Spiritus. However, I would be open to welcoming non-treaty defender regions such as Wintreath, with which we share an embassy.

I'm sure some regions may express unease about this bloc, particularly The North Pacific since they have the World Assembly Legislative League. However, I intend to make it clear that the South Pacific will make foreign policy decisions that are best for us. Furthermore, regions such as our neighbor to the north should not be concerned because we are allies by treaty and shared cultural values. I would find it unreasonable to believe our relationship with our treaty allies would be severed by our decision to build a bloc in the Security Council. We are friends, we have been for a long time, and we will continue to be friends.

(06-04-2020, 01:23 PM)USoVietnam Wrote: How do you plan to integrate our involvement in the bloc with OWL?

First, I must state that I love the Office of World Assembly Legislation because it shows that we are democratizing the process in which our delegate casts their vote in the World Assembly. However, when it comes to the Security Council, we should have an instrument that takes consideration of regional security issues, especially when it comes to liberation resolutions. Some would say that we already have a Cabinet override, but we should also have a bloc with defenders to deliberate on resolutions of interregional importance.

(06-04-2020, 01:23 PM)USoVietnam Wrote: Why do you think we and defender sphere in general is in need of a WA bloc?

If we build a bloc in the Security Council for defenders, we can stack the vote in a way that protects defender interests and ensures the security of our respective regions. Furthermore, a bloc would be a show of unity for the defenders and could very well become the largest voting bloc in the Security Council. Together, we would hold a significant amount of influence on the passage or failure of resolutions in the Security Council. A bloc would be the most significant milestone to date for the defenders.

(06-04-2020, 01:23 PM)USoVietnam Wrote: What new regions do you want us to have a treaty with?

I'm looking at the defender regions we don't currently have a treaty with. We have an embassy with Wintreath but no treaty. We could also build a more formal relationship with TGW. Of course, I'm going to lean on my advisers and ambassadors or even solicit advice from predecessors and ask the Assembly to consider other regions that we may want to have a treaty with. The bottom line is that the South Pacific should shore up its relationship with other defender regions.

(06-04-2020, 01:23 PM)USoVietnam Wrote: What is your plan to get more new members into the ministry and foster future leaders?

I'm going to take the same approach toward this question as I did when I served as the Minister of Regional Affairs. I wish I did this when I was Minister then, but I think the Cabinet should send out a mass telegram once a month to all nations in the South Pacific, recruiting them to the ministries. I want to work with the Cabinet on this issue because this affects all of us and we should address this matter in unison.

All the credit does go to you, and I still have yet to finish the template's dispatches. Rest assured, you have the credit.

Given that time is a finite resource, what do you believe is the more important thing to spend your time on:

Trying to get GCRs that have historically been at odds with us to be our fairweather friends for a little while?

Or trying to build a solid network of like-minded defender regions, that will help natives against raiders, and promote much-needed interconnectivity and solidarity?

As I stated in the Defenders Bloc section, the latter will take precedence. If I had to choose between rapprochement and reconciliation with other GCRs or build a defenders' voting bloc in the Security Council, I choose the latter.

Can you please describe your past or current service in the South Pacific Special Forces or other work promoting our defender values, or, if you do not have such qualifications, can you explain why you have chosen not to participate in the Special Forces? (This can be as simple as mentioning a timing issue.)

I did not serve in the South Pacific Special Forces due to my prolific endotarting. Now that I am a member of the Council on Regional Security, my service is toward keeping our region safe in that capacity.
