Do or die in the next match for the Mauquibian national team

After a disappointing first match against Transsuneria and a small victory over Fauderland, it is do or die for the Mauquibians. The winner of the next match, which is up against Mediterranean neighbours Ikoania, will determine the fate of the team continuing in this year's FWC.

Mauquibie and Ikoania are the only teams with a negative goal differential having both lost their first match then won their second one. If it comes to a draw, Mauquibie might still not make it because of their goal differential and thus the Angels desperately need a win in the next match.

Minister-President Raymond Doumergue is actually in GI-Land now for the FWC 2020. The Royal family has been silent as to their potential trip to go and watch over a game. They might be waiting to see if Mauquibie ever makes it past the qualifying rounds into the regular tournament first.

Is the creation of a noble parties really going to happen?

There has been a lot of whispering in the backbenches of the Chamber of Peers, which is not unusual but this time the whisper is different. People are talking about breaking a near-twenty year long tradition.

Upon its creation in 2001, the Chamber of Peers has always been a chamber reserved for the nobility. A counterbalance to the people's voice. But to calm the most radicals of democrats in Mauquibie, it was established that these non-elected officials would be somehow independent from the influence of people's politics. This might come to an end.

With its 11 years reign as Lord-President of Mauquibie, the Viscount of Pondichéry (Aurélien Marchand) is viewed as a figure that has lost touch with the youngest nobles, especially the daughter of Grand Duke Louis-Philippe III, the Duchess of Bourbonnais (Charlotte) which is also the Intendant of Environment in the Council of Government. And there is one person who is trying to capitalize on this division within the nobility. That person is Minister-President Raymond Doumergue.

There is no doubt that Doumergue wants to run for a third almost fourth mandate1 but seeing the possibility of such a long tenure hanging by a thread in a system where the entirety of the non-elected officials can defeat the entirety of the elected officials, Doumergue is jumping on the occasion to defeat this possibility and install this party policy in the Chamber of Peers.

But it won't be easy. First of all, the Grand Duke could simply remove Doumergue altogether and ending is tenure, replacing him quite easily. Louis-Philippe III could also be removing peers and not replacing them, thus again proving a more challenging task than one could imagine. Of course, the worst-case scenario would be the complete abolition of democratic institutions, but that is quite unlikely, considering that The Turbulence is not old enough for people to have forgotten the abuse of powers once exercised by the Grand Ducal family.

More rational political scientists are saying that it is already the case that unofficially, the nobles are more or less aligned among the spectrum of political parties (at least, the most mainstream ones) and that jeopardizing the young democracy that is Mauquibie is not worth it and that back channels are already in place for a fully functioning National Assembly.

What will the future hold? For now, the whispers continue, as always, among the most noble backbenchers.

1Raymond Doumergue replaced Gaston Leblanc in 2011 and completed the mandate before winning his first mandate in 2013, he was reelected in 2017, if he were to win in 2021 it would be his third official mandate.

Is Raymond Doumergue on his last miles as Minister-President?

It has not even been a week since work resumed in the Chamber of Deputies and the National Assembly in general that already talks to replace the government are stronger than ever.

The heart of the problem is the crisis faced by Raymond Doumergue personally last August with the rumours of a proposal to have political parties within the Chamber of Peers, which are attributed to be the work of Doumergue himself. Questioned on this matter during the week especially by the National Liberal Action, Doumergue has avoided responding to the question.

Sources from within the Reform Party say that some of the key members of the coalition1 are considering leaving the government and maybe going with anticipated elections. In the center of these rumours, Tristan Plante, leader of the Green Movement which is counting for 8 members within the coalition government, and the sole representative of his party in the Council of Government as Intendant for Agriculture.

If the Green Movement was to leave the coalition this would leave the Reform Party with a deficit of 2 people for the majority which could only be achieved by either turning two members of the National Liberal Action, the official opposition. Which is a scenario really unlikely because of their good chances in future elections. That leaves only the Communist Party which stands somehow aligned to the Reform Party's agenda, but that would come with a lot of concessions for Doumergue's leadership which might not hold in this new coalition, especially from within his own party.

The sole representative of the Social Credit already stated that he would never join a coalition led by the Reform Party. The leader of the Equality Option has mentioned that joining the coalition is "very unlikely" but that discussions "can always happen".

All this might also be resolved directly by the Grand Duke, which met with Doumergue personally to get more explanations on the crisis back in August. With the power to dissolve the National Assembly, the Grand Duke might be able to resolve once and for all the turmoil faced by Doumergue who had a good record until today.

1The coalition is actually composed of the Reform Party (13 deputies), the Democratic-Progressive Forces (10 deputies) and the Green Movement (8 deputies).

Special Austral Edition: Learn Mauquibian quirks of language

Mauquibian is full of nice quirks of language, especially with the important population speaking Austral in the nation, this mixture of both languages gave way to some interesting plays on the Mauquibian language. Nevertheless, the Mauquibian language has also resisted the integration of Austral terms within the language.

Chickens in sports
Austral speakers are going to raise an eyebrow when learning that one of the terms used in sport is literally called Chicken in Mauquibian. Commonly called Pool (or pools when plural), the term was simply adapted phonetically and became Poule in Mauquibian which is Chicken if translated back into Austral.

Taking the train to do something
Once again, Austral speaker might have a hard time coming around this concept. There is an equivalent in Mauquibian for I eat which is: Je mange, but there is not exactly the same for I am eating, instead Mauquibians are going to say: Je suis en train de manger (notice the train in the sentence?). It is a reference to the movement of the train on a track, which can be applied to the movement or the duration of an action, all to compensate for the lack of present progressive in the language.

Learning Mauquibian can be complicated (just like many other languages) to learn, but it is so much fun to learn these quirks of language when learning a new one.
