(IC) What happened to Flight HIA 402?

Roll 7: Wrath of the Sea

The first recon submarine from Shang Ye continued forward to Christie's trench submerged, and as it arrives at night, much earlier than expected, it begins to unleash sonars to find the wreckage at the triangulated location. However, the submarine came into contact with a whale, their sonars had made the whale mistake the sub as a mate, and after a severe impact, their communications are down. They would have to surface, which is impossible due to the typhoon. Meanwhile, Wen-Bo managed to get his takeout as a downpour begun outside the hotel, and he cuts the pizza with two slices on the middle, eating it, leaving Chen with a football-shaped pizza instead of a circular one.

As some of the ships leave to Winston island for repairs and restocking, some ships from the Izaakian naval fleet waited out the storm. The ships that went back managed to arrive before the typhoon and the other ships are standing by at sea, moving about in such treacherous waves. The royal yacht moves to DeIp island in the storm, unlike the naval ships, the yacht was not designed to withstand such winds, it moves slowly, creeping into the windy island and causing many of the Empress's things thrown about, including some wine bottles crashing down from their storages and some knick-knacks dropped down. The HMS Komodo had orders from Nemo to continue as the other ships weathered through the storm, and while it moves to approach the triangulated location, the submarine lost contact after screams were heard from the radiomen. Screams of something breaking the hull and attacking the vessel. By minutes, the submarine was not in radar, and no one seems to know what had happened to them. A similar fate was received from the HMS Stingray as it moves to investigate the unknown signals, their drone submarines lost a signal after an hour of searching, but the HMS Stingray, currently rocking on the high tides of the typhoon, knew a certain piece of information that they could not pass due to faulty communication lines in the storm. The captain of the HMS Stingray was surprised and shocked about what he uncovered, and he intends to wait out the storm, fearful of what lurks underneath. The Izaakian team in the deep island, decided to explore north of Deep island, they managed to find some crates and an old sailboat beached. There were people on this island, and from the Izaakian scan before, there may still more people in Deep island, camping out from the storm.

The Besernian air crew however, searched the south side of the island after agreeing with the Izaakians to part ways. As the team moves to explore the island slowly, they stumbled across a jungle trap covered with leaves. Three of the crew had fallen to the pit, and was impaled on sharp sticks. Some of the crew, as they continued forth felt their nerves dead, and fell down. While others were tackled by wild boars, impaled by their tusks as Snakes had bitten them and the toxin was rapid. Half of the crew are now dead, and the commander decided to camp it out as the typhoon rolls in. The Besernian vessels, however, reunited at Winston Island, but the port was full, and they had to anchor near the coast, they are unable to do repairs as the ships rocked around the high waves. It wasn't all bad news, the Besernian expedition that was beached before, were rescued and a squadron of vessels managed to move to Winston Island to join the other Besernian ships.

Back at base, the Anserisan FAA Princip-Stephano heads to Winston Island at a slow and steady pace and arrived at night just as the storm was crashing in. The crew packed the suit for the President and had it cleaned, but unfortunately, that was the only thing they packed for him, the President doesn't have anything else to wear. What's worse, is that the suit had shrunk a bit.

The Holy Free tried to fix the computer after it was damaged, yet it continued to be broken. The computer is beyond repair now. However, the crew managed to contact the pilot backgrounds from ZhangHai, and after interpretation, it was revealed that the crew were ex-military, the pilot captain was revealed to have a daughter with leukemia, and the co-pilot had been in debt after years of gambling addiction. They were beginning to piece together the next major clue, and they needed to analyze the backgrounds further. Meanwhile, the captain of HMS Sonny managed to ask Winston Island for water current datas, and the Holy Free has full access of any data on the water current as that would happen later on, a tremendous opportunity indeed. The investigators tried to search more possibilities, but the typhoon had the staff locked in their rooms with no internet, they didn't manage to search for other possibilities at this time.

Back at the Peonic forward base, the restocking of the RPV Katsugawa and the RPNV Raika was going smoothly, the ships were ready and geared for the morrow to set sail. Professor Kao Min Hao had also interpreted the deep sea results and gotten a more accurate map, the one used by the Investigator in her presentation. What's more, the unknown signals are rather peculiar, the frequencies are a mix of machine patterns and biological patterns. It could be that the signals are emitted from sound-based sea lifeforms, that may meddle with the data. The Peonic command centre had also fitted seismography equipment to detect disasters that would happen for a pre-emptive preparation. Captain Ko, Captain Souma and Investigator Lliong, along with Professor Kao, were too busy in their work and did not have time for trivial backstories. The investigators at RPNV Raika tried to get some clues from Huawan Intercontinental, but the office was on holiday for a week, and a discussion from a rather Karen-like call centre, had made the expedition blocked from reaching the corporation for data.

The Eareamian Fleets arrive at night as the storm was going on. The morning would begin with a clear rainbow and a calm sea, perfect to go back

After hearing the Peony, the Minister of Transport, Gertie Dreher decided to go to the restroom. He needed a break.

Meanwhile, The Chancellor still remains busy.

While the Head Inspector is still at the Conference.

Jerald's been working hard doing this and that.

"Acting head Inspector Jerald! We have been getting a lot of success in our expedition. Sir!"

"That is great. We need to crack that code."

"Yes. Sir"

The officer walked out of the room.

"Oh. Head Inspector Orgle. Such a leader you are but it's coming to an end."

Admiral Nemos face pales as he sways rapidly towards his quarters, where he vomits, not from the sea storm outside, but from the sickening effects of what he’s seen. Captain Neptune attempted to rouse him, for almost an hour but was unsuccessful, so he assumed command of the fleet.
Captain Neptune “gentlemen, we must let the rest of the fleet know what horrors we have witnessed. Don’t allow any subs to dive for now. I’ve also heard reports that we found the corpses of besernian troops on deep island, killed in a trap. So Let’s radio IAF HQ, have them airdrop some paras on there, clear that situation up, and help return those bodies to besern.
I think we need to recover HMS Komodo, to truly see the devastation and hopefully save some survivors, radio the Salvation have them start the recovery.
It’s been a dark day for izaakia ladies and gents, but the night is darkest before the dawn”

Pardon, a what? Chairman Li looked mildly surprised, a rare sight to see.

A whale, sir, Secretary Ping reiterated.

Had you not been by my side for years, I would never have trusted you.

It's been an honor, sir. Secretary Ping scratched his head. Well, this news certainly isn't.

The good news is that we have the ten exploration submarines right on schedule. I'd appreciate a meeting with Chief Admiral Wang immediately.

Right away, sir.

Secretary Ping departs immediately, leaving Chairman Li in his hotel room, perimeter guarded by his security detail. The chairman is careful not to use the hotel WiFi as a security measure. Using a pen and his notepad from his suitcase, he jots down several notes for his upcoming meeting with Admiral Wang, the famous Shang Ye military commander.

A few hours pass before Chairman Li hears a knock on the hotel room door. He opens the door to be greeted by one of his security guards.

Sir, the guard addresses, Admiral Wang will arrive in fifteen minutes. We have prepared the hotel's conference room.

Excellent, replied the chairman. Please give me five minutes to prepare.

Understood. The security guard closes the door.

Chairman Li walks over to the hotel mirror. He fixes his tie, adjusts his sleeves, and examines himself for any blemishes.

Satisfied, he picks up his notepad and pen, then walks toward the door.

Chen and Wen-Bo are relaxing in their hotel room for the night. Chen is recording himself, while Wen-Bo can be seen lying forward on his bed.

Alright, that's it for today. Sorry that we couldn't be on the water for today. The weather should clear up overnight, and we'll give you all a small boat tour and finally get on the water. Xiao Bo, any last words?

Wen-Bo pushes himself up and directs himself toward the camera. You all should swallow a bunch of rusty na-

The camera shuts off.

You know, you could say stuff that wouldn't get me banned every once in a while.

That's the point, though. Wen-Bo scratches his scalp. Rock paper scissors on who picks up dinner?

Sure.

Rock.

Paper.

Scissors.

Shoot.

Paper beats rock, Xiao Bo.

You know, literally no one throws paper first. That shouldn't even be an option.

It makes the game a game, dude. Now go on, there's gotta be a sushi place somewhere.

Fine, but you're paying for your own food. Wen-Bo hops out of bed and slips on a pair of sandals.

Seriously, says Wen-Bo, breaking the silence. Who actually chooses paper.

You literally always pick rock first.

You little...

Wen-Bo opens the door and shuts it with a thud.

Chen sits back in an armchair and opens up his laptop computer.

After a brief setup of his encryption software, he checks the Internet for his fantasy basketball results. He wins the week.

Thank god, Chen thinks to himself.

After a few seconds of relief, Chen checks his email. His inbox consists mostly of Doufu notifications.

Chen's mind wanders toward the international meeting called earlier today. Chen feels privileged to have been a part of said meeting, though he half expected to be turned down upon arrival. He also feels a bit of melancholy, however, due to the inability of the participating nations to show a unified front.

Such is life, I guess.

Chen thinks more about whether the world truly can cooperate. Being his first international meeting, Chen begins to wonder whether conflict such as this is ultimately unresolvable.

It's definitely hard, Chen thinks to himself, but if it was impossible, people would stop trying.

Oh, and I need to remind myself to bring some chewing gum instead of chips next time.

Chen remembers the brief moment where the entire conference was looking at him, an underdressed, average person, chomping on his favorite Pang Tou Chips. Chen makes a mental note not to do that again.

Chen thinks about what this means for his international relations. Being his first major conference outside of the Bailtem Union, it seems that this would be a point of humiliation for any representative. Being from a humble past, however, Chen sees these experiences as lessons.

Can't rewrite the past, so might as well move forward.

Snapping out of his critical thinking trance, Chen logs on Doufu and posts an update:

Hey guys, the new video is up and everything. Nothing too eventful, and I didn't get to film the whole day, but tomorrow will be more fun. I promise. Till then, just bear with me and enjoy Wen-Bo's shower singing.

Oh, Chen thinks to himself, while I'm in international waters, I might as well check out that Stream platform, too.

As the storm begins to die out in the middle of the night, a motorcade runs towards Winston Island airport at a steady pace. The red Peonic flag waved about as the winds continue to crash. The Peony sat in her seat, crossing her legs as she looked outside. Admiral Lee sat beside the Peony as Captain Ko, Captain Souma and Investigator Lliong sat in front of her.

"Investigator, I believe you have an urge to smoke?" Asked The Peony, as she gazed back to the investigator, who was rather rattled.
"No, my nuwang." answered Zahra Lliong, bowing deep.
"Your fingers, they clasp unto your pen as if it was a cigarette. You try to place it towards your lips, but recognized that it is not the time." Said The Peony. "I could not blame you, after what had happened in the meeting."

The Peony sighed, and looked back at the three.

"I had thought by providing them with the dossier, they would certainly be able to recognize the ability to work together. The delegations speak of cooperation, of unity. Yet it continues to prove that The South Pacific is unable to band together in cooperation for humanitarianism, and instead, their special interests run wild forevermore."

"The honourable Izaakian empress was rattled, so was the Besernian minister of transport, my Nuwang." Answered Captain Ko.

"I suspect I've given their cards away..." The Peony responded, "Sad, the Besernians seem to forget who gave them the dossier before, using them as tools of their gains. I suspect as much... The Izaakians, Besernians, and the rest, they preach of the sanctity of life and sacrifice for the good in finding the truth, yet they find it acceptable in sabotaging foreign vessels and destroying telecommunications in several nations.....Pity."

The Peony was silent, the reactions solidified one thing. Regardless of their purposes, the other expeditions could not be trusted.

"Honorable investigator. What's troubling you?" The Peony asked.

"......The World Aircraft Safety Organization under the South Pacific had always preached for unity, we can trust investigators and expeditions in aiding each other. A professional front in helping recover and solve downed aircraft, and it has been trustworthy... Now? I am not exactly sure what to believe, although I see that without the other expeditions, we could never have been closer to finding the aircraft."

"......Admiral Lee, your thoughts?"

"Since we have maintained a helpful front, we must continue to do so, my Nuwang. We can definitely try to see an opportunity in having them so brutish, and the moment they got something of interest, we could ride the waves of their success." Said the Admiral, then looking at the two captains, "the Peonic navy will see to it that they will continue being on their tracks, whilst doing our own searches."

The Peony nodded.

"That is wise."

Admiral Lee took out an envelope from his pocket, and gave it to captain Ko.

"Captain Denning Ko of the Peonic Salvation Corps, I hereby promote you to first commander of the Peonic HIA 402 expedition. You are to see this through, and make sure that no foolish judgements would occur that may jeopardize this expedition." he said, and he looked back at The Peony, "with your blessing, my Nuwang, I shall ask the Peonic Royal Navy to provide a corvette and a submarine to help assist in any case of... violence."

The Peony nodded in understanding. At that point, they arrived in the airport and the rain was still going about, the motorcade made its way to a hangar, where the imperial jet and the helicopter is located. The Peony had nodded in understanding, and gave a deep bow to the three. Something that surprised everyone in the car.

"Please, I ask you. Find the missing plane, and solve this puzzle. I am in your debt if you find this vessel and give peace to the families that are affected by this tragedy..."

The Peony then got her head up, looking rather melancholic, before going out of the car, and walking to the plane. The Admiral just looked at his empress, and looked at the investigators.

"May the seas be kind and the winds be strong." said Admiral Lee, before getting out himself to take the helicopter, back to his aircraft carrier. Leaving the three inside the car, which went back immediately to the base. Captain Ko sat on the opposite side of the car, it was a bit cramped before.

"We set sail tomorrow, captain Souma. I trust your drones are prepared?"
"The RPV Katsugawa will lend its hand as needed, we shall sail on your orders."
"Investigator, I believe that your position would be much more beneficial if you stay in the command centre from now on. Would your team be alright with the arrangement."
"Certainly. I'd be nice to be in a place where we can hold our mugs without it sliding off."

Captain Ko laughed, and looked outside as he took a drink from the limousine fridge.

"Let's see what we can do."

Roll 8: Finally, at long last.

The Shang Ye navy convened and briefed all crew members regarding the situation at hand, as well as any news regarding the current situation on the field. Deployment however, was slow, and although the submarines are spread, it’ll take a day before they could perform the necessary tasks. The HN-6 Solo had chosen to return to port at a slow pace. The exploration submarines are transported from Shang Ye, and would be operational the next day.

Meanwhile, Chen Xu had purchased a lot of food for his trip, but their trip would be delayed another day. The continuous comms sabotage had severely impacted Winston Island, and USB Wifi modems are all sold out. They decided to set out, only to be halted by the coast guards, they didn’t have the proper papers to sail that day, and with hotels booked, they had no other place to stay in for the night. They would have to get the papers first to sail and help the exploration effort, “Leave this to the professionals kid.” they were told by the coast guard as they left to the bus stop carrying boxes of food.

The Izaakians found out what had happened to the fleet, after recovering the HMS komodo, they found that although most of the crew died from the incident, some had successfully escape ascended to the surface and possibly survive. The scary incident was then shared with the crew, and one common conclusion was drawn. Something terrifying is lurking in the depths. The IAF had dropped 100 men to assist the deep island search just in time as the Royal yacht moored off deep island to join the search. The RV Deep Blue however, had some malfunctions in their sonars, and would need to be prepared

The Besernians sailed out to the search area with speed as an aircrew dropped 50 airmen on Deep Island to rescue the aircrew. The RV rungenbouen and the RV Haoenesport moved to their locations, but the sun was down as they searched the wreckage. Back in Winston Island, Minister Gertie had a massive incident in the lavatory, something that felt rather neverending as he cried away from massive diarrhoea. He exited the smelly restroom bone dry and dehydrated and the minister passed out in the car, prompting him to be airlifted right away back to Besern. His assistant, when trying to coordinate for the minister’s health transport, had gotten a dossier from Huawan Intercontinental, revealing data of the pilots and the plane’s service history.

The Holy Free had much happening, the HMS Sonny found that the vessel had a massive leak in its fuel tanks. Jerald took the opportunity to frame the head investigator, in addition to him almost creating a major international incident. As the investigator was escorted back to the airport, he felt a vibe rush through him after an hour sitting on the office chair, something good was in the air. The HMS Heile of the Holy Free sailed to Yokonawa Island, as investigators read the pilot’s backgrounds. It was revealed that a week before the incident, the pilot captain’s daughter had died after succumbing to her leukemia. Furthermore, past reports revealed that the co-pilot’s girlfriend had been severely abused by her partner for the past 3 years, it was further revealed that a day before the crash, the co-pilot had won large in the gambling table and promised to pay back his debt the next day, a day after the crash. They uncovered a great theory, it’s definitely possible that the crash was foul play, hugely from the pilots. This was another major piece of the puzzle.

Peonic Salvation Corps Admiral, Admiral Lee had called for backup from the Royal battle cruiser RPNV Hayabusa and the combat submarine RPNV Takamura to move out to Winston Island. Although the RPNV Hayabusa was informed of the situation, they were ordered to not move from the North besernian coast to observe the situation, leaving only the RPNV Takamura en route and arrive in 2 days from ZhangHai. The RPNV Raika and the RPV Katsugawa moves out to sea at a stedy pace, at noon the two vessels unleashed the drones and mapped the ocean. Back at sea, the Peonic investigators managed to codebreak the Izaakians, and were aware of the problems they were facing. Captain Ko was informed as head of the expedition, and proceeded as such. Meanwhile, The Peony had asked one of the guardians to anonymously order Chen Xu five large size pineapple pizzas, with a note that said “I hope this is enough to satiate your hunger.”Much to his dismay and satisfaction of Chen Bo.
