Government (Complete WIP)

Kodan’s political system is comprised of the Council of Archmages, and the ruling monarch

The Council of Archwizards regulates all military affairs, regulates anything that has do with magic (including national wildlife), and the Council functions as a separate court, dealing only with the most severe/important cases

The monarch oversees all economic affairs, foreign affairs, can overrule any decisions made by the Imperial Court and is the official head of state & head of government of Kodan

Ministries and Governmental Branches

Kodan is officially ruled by the monarch (although in practice the Council could simply remove them from power at any time), but still has ministries and advisory/governmental branches to aid him in ruling the country.

The list of ministries includes:

Het Ministerie van Onderwijs (the Ministry of Education)

The MvO‘s task is teaching all children magic, alchemy, and, in some special cases, the Sciences.
Once they reach the age of 4, all children are required to attend “Basic(s) School” (the literal translation of Basisschool), in which they’ll learn the basics of magic and alchemy until the age of 17. From this age, they can start specialising in different fields of magic, alchemy, and/or the Sciences.
This stage of their life is mainly referred to as “Intermediate Education” (Gemiddelde/Gematigde Educatie), and usually lasts for 3-8 years depending on the path the student is going down.

Following the end of their “Average Education”, a student can do either one of 2 things:
1. End it here and don’t specialise any further (a person can choose to pick 2. at any point in their life)
2. Go into “Advanced Education”

Advanced Education covers a wide variety of areas, and it can take 3-120 years to complete.
The most common path students go down in this stage of education is a path leading up to a career in the military.

The Sciences are a very rare pick for students, and thus i won’t be explaining it in detail (yet). The MvO’s goals do not include teaching students wanting to specialise even further in the broad subject of magic; as this is a job of the Ministerie van Magie (the Ministry of Magic).

Het Ministerie van Magie (the Ministry of Magic)

The MvA has multiple tasks: provide the highest level & quality of education possible to students, oversee all magical artefacts as well as all magical weapons, scrolls, and other gear used by mages in battle or otherwise.

Kodan contains 16 universities (of magic) within its borders, and it’s the MvA’s job to keep them running and to advertise for them.
The MvA’s preferred storage place for magical weapons, armour, scrolls, artefacts and the like is De Wapensilo (lit. The Weaponsilo), but some magical objects are stored in universities or are simply in use by mages or the Military.

The MvA is also responsible for fulfilling the basic needs of mages (food, housing, universal healthcare, etc.), closely working together with the Military in times of war to allow for the existence of battle mages in Kodan.

Het Ministerie van Economische Zaken (the Ministry of Economical Affairs)

It’s the MEZ’s job to keep the budget of the state higher than its expenses are. It regulates all trade within and outside the country, and manages all money-related issues (mainly including logistics).
