Assembly-Cabinet discussion on conference attendance
#21

One option we could do is to refuse to host Euro's, saying something about how we value our relationship but don't accept threats or ultimatums, and then attempt to attend both.

We are going to talk with Lazarus about the war no matter what, Hileville. We are their ally and we will be affording them the respect of an ally. What TSP ultimately does will be discussed at some point in the future, but there's no scenario in which TSP and Lazarus do not at least talk about it.

Swagger, gentleman. Got to have Swagger. Having been invited to BOTH conferences, both apparently about INDEPENDENCE, we accept both and let BOTH regions that whatever we do outside of the conference is not up to them to decide OR care about.
Ain't anyone's business but ours.

While we may not be allies with Osiris, we aren't exactly enemies either. If Europeia holds true to there threat, it could mean dark clouds are headed for TSP.

I could not agree more. These conferences are supposed to be about Independence and Peace (I think?). For Europeia to try and decide and/or forcefully persuade what we are allowed to do is ridiculous. The two are not related and frankly I don't see how conferences can be 'competing'.

I don't know how I feel about receiving vague threats and pathetic ultimatums from a region that is considered an ally. For that reason, it is a little hard for me to say that we should co-host the conference. (Do we really want to co-host an Independence Conference with a region that is acting so shady?) That being said, I think participating in both conferences in essential. It is important for us to get our foreign agenda out there and participate on the world stage, as TSP is one of the more visual Independent regions. Also, it is important to show that we cannot be coerced by other regions into helping their interests with cheap politicking.

Nice poster, QuietDad. I also agree with Justice Berr.

Osiris has nothing to do with this, for the record. I knew nothing of any other conference or any ultimatum from Europeia. Stop to consider for a moment that Osiris was not the first region to have a problem with the PRL, and certainly isn't the only one. The PRL has been hostile to all of Europeia's other allies since day one.

Regarding conference attendance, I'm not going to weigh in. No matter what I say, unless it's an enthusiastic endorsement of the Lazarus conference, I will be accused of pursuing Osiran interests in the TSP Assembly. What I will say is that TSP's long held desire to have its cake and eat it too is no longer a tenable position. You can't have the protection of raiders and imperialists, essentially in exchange for nothing, and be BFFs with their enemies. The rest of NationStates does not owe this region security like some kind of entitlement. So think long and hard before destroying yet another alliance, this time in favor of a brand new treaty with an increasingly unstable defender regime founded by the guy who overthrew the Coalition last year.
