PRESS RELEASE     MINISTER OF DEFENSE SPECIAL REPORT ON THE LIBERATION OF CHAYLIA 9 August 2021 Fellow South Pacificans, At major update on August 8th, forces from Lone Wolves United left an ongoing anti-fascist occupation in order to pursue an offensive operation against an innocent region, Chaylia. Chaylia is a casual and relatively new region, currently in the process of structuring its Constitution through a Constitutional Convention, and which has chosen to use the non-executive founder mechanic as a tool to preserve democratic governance via the NationStates endorsement system. Unfortunately, the initial defense of Chaylia was unsuccessful, although several SPSF Members did help establish an early foothold in the region during that defense. In this occupation, raiders secured a larger pile than they have recently, due to the inclusion of independent and unaligned regions such as Thaecia, The North Pacific, and The West Pacific alongside traditional raider forces. Originally, forces from Lily and Joint Task Force (the military of our allies in Conch Kingdom) were also invited by Lone Wolves United to participate in the occupation. However, because the raid targeted a region where leadership of both militaries were citizens, neither participated in the occupation and in fact aided in the liberation effort. This oversight by the leadership of Lone Wolves United represents yet another instance of shortsighted foreign affairs decisions by raider forces, one which cost them in this occupation. At minor update on August 8th, defenders further extended their foot hold in the region, reaching 53 endorsements on the native Delegate (New Scottsville) compared to the raider Delegate's 58. The following SPSF members participated in this liberation attempt: Minister of Defense @HumanSanity General @Nakari General @Roavin Commander @Witchcraft and Sorcery Officer @Luca Soldier @Moon Soldier @Quebecshire Soldier @Asia and Pacific Trainee @Floptop Tidal Force Member Gordon Freeman In addition to providing these forces to the liberation effort, the SPSF was instrumental in the logistical success of the operation. SPSF Officer @Luca was responsible for setting the triggers (meaning giving and calibrating carefully timed move instructions) for all liberating forces and was assisted by SPSF Commander @Witchcraft and Sorcery and Soldier @Quebecshire. Additionally, I as Minister of Defense helped lead the coordination efforts with other militaries and helped rally forces from the SPSF and other militaries to assist in the liberation. In this minor update liberation endeavor, the SPSF was assisted by the Anti-Fairy Pact, the East Pacific Sovereign Army, the Free Nations Defense Association, Founderless, the Joint Task Force, Lily, the League Defense Force, the Royal Alvarez Militia, the Rejected Realms Army, the Union of Democratic States Armed Forces, the Order of the Grey Wardens, and the Ten thousand Islands Treaty Organization. I would like to congratulate our partners in the Free Nations Defense Association for having their highest ever update turnout for this liberation effort. Due to the great variety of forces available at this liberation and the strength of their cross-endorsement, the raider Delegate was unable to eject many defender units before the next game update, meaning many of the defender forces in the region who liberated at minor update but were busy with real life obligations at the major update were able to remain in the region for the ultimate and successful liberation attempt. At major update on August 9, with 50 endorsements still supporting native Delegate New Scottsville, the SPSF and its partners prepared to liberate the region. The raider Delegate's endorsement total had increased to 67, however this did not deter liberating forces. At this liberation, SPSF personnel were once again essential to the liberation effort. Myself, as Minister of Defense, played a key role in native outreach and interregional coordination. This trigger was once again expertly set by SPSF Officer @Luca, with their extreme dedication to the technical details and craft of trigger-setting being essential to giving defenders an edge in this liberation, again with assistance provided in calling the trigger by SPSF Soldier @Quebecshire. The following SPSF personnel participated in this final liberation attempt: Minister of Defense HumanSanity General Roavin Commander Witchcraft & Sorcery Officer Luca Soldier @Atlantica Soldier @Conexia Soldier Moon Soldier Quebecshire The liberating forces from minor update were joined by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) and the native Delegate New Scottsville, who visited the Liberator's chat to meet with defender forces. I would also like to congratulate our partners in the Order of the Grey Wardens for setting their all-time single update turnout. Following the occupation, New Scottsville has ejected all occupying forces and the legitimate government of the region has been restored. The SPSF Tidal Force will take a few days to support New Scottsville's Delegacy and help rebuild their influence as the operation winds down. New Scottsville has also thanked the SPSF and all the liberating forces for their assistance. This liberation attempt has demonstrated the ability of the SPSF to achieve its core objectives as it relates to the defense of sovereign regions in several ways: 1. It has demonstrated the centrality of SPSF personnel to the leadership of the entire faction in crucial spots. An SPSF Officer made the initial spot which led to our efforts in the initial defense. Without the expert technical abilities of SPSF Officer @Luca, foreign communications and native outreach by myself as Minister of Defense, and the assistance provided by Commander @Witchcraft and Sorcery and Soldier @Quebecshire, this operation could have had a decidedly different outcome, or at the very least been a more prolonged process. 2. It has demonstrated that despite the standard summer slump, the SPSF and its defender allies are alive and well, even as the capabilities and forces of invaders suffer. Two SPSF partners put up all-time record numbers of liberators for this effort and the SPSF itself had a total of 12 different liberators participate in the liberation. This liberation has demonstrated the power of defending collectively. Raider pundits have recently criticized the perceived overreliance of defending on non-partisan militaries. While cooperation with non-partisan militaries pursuing defensive operations remains a central part of the SPSF and defending's collective approach, the fact that an occupation supported by three of the most powerful non-partisan militaries was still liberated by defenders in only 24 hours, and with only minimal non-partisan support, further demonstrates that the faction which truly demonstrates an absolute dependency on non-partisan forces is not defending, but rather raiding. Why is this? Perhaps it is because of defending's focus on positive community and the role of broader culture and infrastructure in its efforts. Perhaps it is simply the ineptitude of recent foreign affairs and community-leadership of raider regions. Whatever the cause, the liberation of Chaylia has once again proven not only the strength of the SPSF, but also of defending collectively. After a long day of work by myself and the SPSF's members, I am proud to report the region of Chaylia is free and is already back at work on their own self-governance. The Tidal Force will remain in the region to support its Delegate for the next several days and ensure that our work in the region is wrapped up nicely.
