AUGUST 2021 CHAIR OF THE ASSEMBLY ELECTION
Fellow South Pacificans,
It is once again time to elect a new Chair of the Assembly. Article 5 of the Elections Act stipulates:
5. Office of the Chair
(1) Eight days before the end of a Chair's term, the Assembly will convene to elect the Chair of the Assembly.
a. Any legislator wishing to run for Chair may declare their candidacy, and the Assembly will debate the merits of their platform.
b. The campaign and debate period will last 5 days, after which the Assembly will vote for 3 days.
(2) The voting for the Chair will be conducted using Approval Voting.
a. Voters may vote for as many candidates as they approve of, or vote for none by voting to Re-Open Nominations.
b. The candidate with the highest percentage of approval will be elected.
c. If the winning candidate received less than 50% approval, the option to Re-Open Nominations will be 'elected'.
(3) The term for the incoming Chair will begin immediately following the conclusion of the election.
• Declarations shall begin on August 18 at 12 AM (UTC) and conclude on August 23 at 12 AM (UTC) (click for countdown).
• Campaigning shall begin on August 18 at 12 AM (UTC) and conclude on August 23 at 12 AM (UTC) (click for countdown).
• Voting shall begin on August 23 at 12 AM (UTC) and conclude on August 26 at 12 AM (UTC) (click for countdown).
Please consider time zone differences when reviewing the deadline for each stage in the election. It is your responsibility to ensure that you comply with all legal requirements within the mandated time frames (click for time zone conversion).
If you wish to nominate someone or declare your candidacy, please reply to this thread. To be listed on the ballot, candidates must have a campaign thread and a Conflict of Interest disclosure. Good luck to all the candidates!
Faithfully yours,
The Election Commissioner

With current irl circumstances, I will also have to decline.
I'm hoping to see more new faces in this election, maybe we'll get a Hya 2.0?
