Scotland leaves and it will give that all away

London's economy is roughly the same size as that of Sweden or Iran according to the CIA

If you seriously think that Scotland will be better off if it goes its own way I think you will be in for a nasty shock

You can't keep the pound without surrendering some of your sovereignty as exchange rates will still be governed by the Bank of Sassenachs (and therefore economic policy determined by Westminster) so you might have to adopt the Euro, exchanging economic control from Westminster for economic control via Brussels

The aircraft carriers built on the banks of the Clyde will in future be built in Portsmouth or Barrow in Furness - no future "rest of the UK" government would commit political suicide by awarding contracts to build Capital ships to a foreign country that Scotland would become

Aside from the economics there is the issue of migration, immigration and border control. The SNP belive that nett migration INTO Scotland will be needed to plug the skills gap and pension deficit caused by leaving the UK economy.

Unless there is some financial inducement to attract the brightest and best to Edinburgh Glasgow or Dundee these people will still head towards the bright lights of London - it happens to every province in the UK the investment centres on the South East:

"Scotland needs more immigration. If we still think that old age deserves choice and quality of life then some facts must be faced. Britain has an ageing population and Scotland's is ageing more rapidly than that of the rest of the UK. We need another one million immigrants in this country paying taxes and national insurance as well as purchasing goods and services. This they tend to do and they tend not to get as sick and depressed as the rest of us"

It is not just Scotland that is suffering from the whims of those in Westminster, so is the North East, The North West, The South West and Wales - you leave and the rest of us that hate the mandarins down south will never forgive you. You get your "independence" and you let them walk away scot free, in more ways than one - no more opposition to Tory venture capitalist scorched earth economics.

I am afraid you are being sold a romantic dream of what Scottish Independence really is and much as I applaud you for wanting to assert your national identity I'm afraid this will all end in tears

If you do get your way I really hope you become successful, and economic focus in the British Isles shifts toward Glasgow and Edinburgh, and the northern counties of England gravitate towards it - you would probably be surprised at how far South the rest of us would want the border to extend

However lets not forget that 3 successive Prime Ministers of Scottish descent have been in charge of the UK Government for almost two decades now, and you did send Jimmy 6 down here that led to all this in the first place! Wink

You say that London is the same size of Sweden's or Iran's, but did you know that it's only the fourth largest economy in the UK. Aberdeen is a city in Scotland and it had the largest economy in the UK for years and it still has.

Many ENGLISH MPs have said that if Scotland became independent she would keep the pound. The thing about the pound is just blackmail to try to keep us in the UK. Even if we can't keep the pound (which we can) we can make a Scottish pound.

You say that we are being told a dream about Scottish independent? You do know that the NO campaign has said that if Scotland became independent that she would not be able to defended her self from attacks from outer space!

The fact is how come the Prime Mistier, most English MPs and most political party leaders want Scotland to stay in the UK. It's because they know that if Scotland was to leave the UK economy would fall down. You can see how despite the Prime Mistier has become he now has asked the Russian President, the US President and ex-NATO leaders to help keep Scotland in the UK.

This shows that Scotland can become independent.
