New Forum Software Demo |
Update: Demo is over I think it was a pretty good success. Admins will be working out a transition plan soon!

It's based on JavaScript and everyday another browser is dropping support for it. It's highly insecure. But, not my sandbox. What? This is patently false. If this was happening, we'd be seeing in the front pages of every computer related website on the kind of scale that would suggest to an uninformed outsider that the world was ending. Not to mention that Chrome is owned by Google, which also runs most of their websites on JavaScript and also has their own massive custom web app framework (which they also rewrote completely 5 years ago and is still making active improvements). Where on earth did you learn this lie? EDIT: ...Or maybe you're doing what comfed suggested and confusing JavaScript with the completely unrelated Java. They're completely different languages, JavaScript is just named similarly to try to appeal to people who like Java. But Java plugins are now unsupported by several browsers, yes. Not JavaScript though.
When we get the new forum up and running I suggest that we install the forum signatures plugin since we have all of these beautiful awards like the SWAN awards and the SPSF ribbons that would be rendered pretty much useless because there would be nowhere to display them other than dispatches that nobody sees.

Discourse has a built-in badges functionality: https://meta.discourse.org/t/what-are-badges/32540
I'm not a fan of signatures, and even less of images in signatures. They tend to clutter the UI, especially on mobile. With the goal here being a mobile-first approach, signatures likely won't be added.
Will the wiki be moved to https://wiki.thesouthpacific.org or something similar?

Yes, though I think there needs to be some serious rethinking of the wiki, how it’s managed and used.
