#21

Flags are symbolic because they do represent evrything that has happened on their time as flag.

Not necessarily. The Brazilian flag for instance may tell a lot about early Brazilian history and include a whole lot of abstract symbolism, but it is not even close to ever representing everything that has happened after it was designed.

As an avid history-geek myself, I'd really encourage you to see the origins of your flag and its significance. You may find something quite intriguing, I'll bet.

I already know the origins of my flag. It's one of those dumb things they cram into your head when you're young over here.

As someone who has already researched the origins and significance of many of my country's flags over and over, I refer you to my last post.

In the end a flag really is a cloth with colours. What defines a nation is not the specific colour someone choose decades or centuries ago, it's what people do to live up to their nation's potential.

Then why are nations worrying about them so much? Especially Commonwealth countries, New Sealand is in the verge of change, and Australia has yet again brought the debate to the table. People see it as much more that it is worthy of an important debate.

The answer me this.

Say all of your country's (NS) flag is dropped down from the main government building. Then someone else's flag was raised. Would you stand by it
