OPINION: A Dangerous Proposal

That should ensure it gets done then. Also when does the great council start dealing with proposals?

Actually I just managed to find it.

Both are wrong.

No, I think RMBers are human beings, and once given a taste of governance are likely to want more, as is natural. I also think that there's no valid argument to be made to deny them more and more governance, once we've already given them legislative authority, especially when proponents of this idea are using rhetoric that the existing government is anti-democratic. I am not assigning judgement of good and bad onto people. I'm trying to argue for the preservation of forum-based government and our forum community.

There is no realistic scenario in which the RMB overshadows the forum. Let's keep it real, Glen.

I do not participate in the regional server, but I am happy to talk through instant messaging or on the forum.

Where do you draw the line, Kris? Our existing system is apparently not democratic enough. We need to include the RMB to make the level of democracy in TSP acceptable. Not doing so is active disenfranchisement. I'm having trouble seeing a logical and consistent stopping point to devolving more and more governing functions to the game-side.

You make it sound like I'm somehow degrading the RMBers, but you're wrong. If there was such a mass interest in the way the region is run, why hasn't the RMB blown up with outbursts for OR against this? Most of, if not all of the comments regarding this are from those who sign up to the forum and a very small handful of RMBers.

Oh, but there is Kris

Enough WA nations support a Delegate that ignores the forum.

If such an arrangement comes about because the forum based government is shown to be  reluctant to consider respecting the wishes, and realities of the game-based region, how much sympathy could it expect in the event of a coup? The Coalition only narrowly garnered enough support from around NS to repel Milograds coup, when the environment was radically different.

Fail to adapt now and perhaps the support that was drummed up last time will not be so readily forthcoming.
By refusing to approach these proposals in a conciliatory and open minded fashion the Coalition would come off as oppressive and anti-democracy, removing the central rallying cry from last time.

In such a debacle those who in the wider NS polity who may harbour  sympathy toward the Coalition might well regard the situation as a pure power grab, and reluctant to be seen to support the Ancien Regime.

Those who oppose the Coalition and wish to see it fall would no doubt relish the idea of bringing it down by supporting a rebellion that advocates democracy, no doubt reveling in the irony that the very body that championed democracy was toppled by its refusal to embrace it.

I'll continue the French Revolution metaphor started by Ditortilla.
There are three groups in TSP. The first group are the administrators and members of government: they run the forums and have a huge amount of influence on the government. The second group are the political participants: they are the ones active in the political forums and have a lot of influence and power. The third group is everyone else; some WA nations, but many not.
Students of history will recognize the similarities to the atmosphere before the French Revolution (the three estates metaphor: clergy, nobility, and commoners). And hopefully they know what happened next.
(hint hint: After a few years of various weak governments, Maximilien Robespierre and the Committee of Public Safety seized power and ushered in the Reign of Terror. Historians estimate that as many as 40,000 people were killed. And a few years after that, Napoleon seized power.)

"Committee of Public Safety"? Oh we've already had that, Bel was tried to do just that a few months ago. Someone whistleblew and he was removed from the CSS.

I'm sure we're quite safe. Well, we're not. Not until we protect TSP from the foreign interloper, and the people with multiple government roles - because they are treacherous and deceitful individuals who will steal your children and eat your pets. Or is that steal your pets and eat your children? /shrugs

Use this great council to push for a ban on dual citizenship: protect TSP from itself. Push for a ban on holding foreign offices. Ban tax-evasion and remember: they're all out to get you.

I can't tell if that's sarcasm or not.
