OPINION: A Dangerous Proposal

Can you prove otherwise?

Darkstrait, it is difficult to not be pessimistic that the reform will ultimately lead to less and less government occurring on the forums. Once we give the RMB legislative power, we can never take it back. The rhetorical and logical foundation of this reform applies just as well to every other aspect of government, not just the legislature. I do not see why the RMB wouldn't demand more, and I don't see what we could say to stop that from happening.

To think that this would lead to a full-blown RMB government is an exaggeration. Regardless of the arguments for or against reform, forum regulars are the most government-focused of our residents, so it is nearly impossible to have a drastic switch away from forum governance, at least in the way you warn about.

It's not much of an exaggeration, Kris. We will already be electing the Chair that way. What distinction is there between an election of the Chair and the election of the rest of the Cabinet? There is none. If it can be done for one, it can be done for all. And there's no reason whatsoever to expect that the RMB players who make a name for themselves in this new lower house won't call for more and more governance to be done on site.

If you think that can't be done right now, then I don't know why you think legislative activity can be done that way.

Ah, the election of the Chair. That is one specific part of the project that I don't support. Electing the Cabinet is a right reserved to citizens, which is how I think things should be.

As for the slippery slope argument, I think you overestimate the behaviour of the RMB. I believe it would remain the mostly casual environment that it already is, rather than become a sort of second forum.

The cause against this reform is not unified. On one hand, we've got Glen-Rhodes, who seems to think that our region's residents are a bunch of power-hungry freedom fighters who will overthrow us as soon as look at us, and on the other hand we've got TAC, who thinks that the residents are a bunch of apathetic south potatos who don't give a crap about how this region is run. Both are wrong.

Where's you proof that either of them are wrong?
What makes your opinion any more true than theirs?

We have polls to prove it. Kris pulled a graph for one up and at least 80% said that they wanted the government to be located to some extent in both places.

At least now you've given us a reason. If you're going to go and say people are wrong at least tell us why.

Now's the right time to run another poll, or a series of other polls.

Have one asking: Do you want the government to be run more on the RMB? If so to what degree? If not why not? Just something like that. And then you list several options of varying power and reasons for not wanting it, i.e. not caring.

After that one finishes then you run: Are you a citizen on the forum? As options you put up things like Yes, No because I don't know how, No because I don't care, No because I don't like forums, No because I'm scared of going on there, No because I'm unable to because of whatever reasons or There's a forum?

Those are the only two I can think of at the moment, I'm sure there are plenty of other useful things to do too, so if you think of any please post them here too.

As a matter of fact, Unibot has planned almost exactly the same thing.
