Being Banned from IRC
#11

There never really has been a clear set of moderation policies. As long as people don't resort to personal attacks, don't spam, and don't advertise on the channel then they are good.

And what happens when Ops themselves aren't able to follow those general guidelines?

The Pacific generally has one rule: Don't be a fucking dipshit.

I feel that's the best rule for the IRC as well.

You should take that up with the owner of the channel. That is currently Asta.

Oh and this is the topic:

#the_south_pacific is full of the people due to which I am no longer enjoying playing NationStates anymore. I'm not too keen on aggravating that situation.

I really do not think our government on WFE and on the forums should link to a channel as our unofficial meeting place when this is the kind of attitude one of the Ops has about TSP.

I will let Asta know and as a community we should figure out this issue as well.

When I owned the channel, we had a rules/procedure for a while.

The only rule of #the_south_pacific is don't be a dick. It's worked really well for every other occupant, and we've rarely had to ban anyone recently. Although we do have a very long banlist, only a select number of whom I can pinpoint as cases I recognise.

We've had days (months!) with everyone as Op, and not a single argument. Not counting a few kids who got trigger happy, or someone who tried to purge the channel - jefferson something.

I'm also not discussing why you were banned in a public venue. I would have discussed it via query, but you decided to go to another channel, unrelated to TSP and tried to incite trouble there. You then took to query (when the founder of that channel told you to keep it out of his channel) where you started the same.

You were also banned from #spiritus the other night for 12hrs for the same behaviour by one of their operators, in a ban agreed to by their channel owner.

I have said, since you like to misquote me, that I find politics on this board to be stressful, tiring and toxic. I find it damages my own health by being involved. I walked away for my health. I did not post a letter of resignation because it would have been hijacked by certain people crowing at their victory. It does not mean I hate TSP, although I am certainly peeved that certain people in this region have told people to come and tell me their displeasure at me "abandoning the region". Seeking me out on irc or other regional forums to tell me something, going out of their way, only seeks to annoy me.

I remain in the irc channel, as I have done for the better part of two years, a year of which I have been an SOP. If you've got an issue with me being an SOP fine, but do not attempt to masquerade it as faux concern about "the channel".

That channel has upwards of 40 people in it at varying times, of that a considerable number of them are either part of TSP or citizens of allied regions, such as Euro/TRR/Laz/TNP/Balder/Spiritus. If you claim that there's a problem with the channel because these people have ruined the game for you, then there's a simple solution: don't use it.

I stand by what I said. You can ask another SOP to rule on that ban, or you can petition the channel owner, Asta, who specifically handles ban appeals.

In future, don't start on one of the operators in a channel they can remove you from. Keep things in query or a neutral ground. Stop airing dirty laundry in public. Just because Belschaft and you may have danced that dance does not mean it's acceptable to force others to dance the same way. Keep things civil, and people will remain civil.

Do that, and you'll be welcome in that channel, as will nearly anyone else.

I will not be replying further to this thread.

You do not respond to query and you may post logs of my query here but I doubt you will because you don't actually care. You might as well publicly point out why you banned me. If you are so fair and impartial then you would have no trouble doing so and pinpointing what exactly constitutes a ban so that all can be clear about it beforehand rather then after the fact.

Right now it seems disagreeing with you is the real reason you banned me. What next questions are banned too?

As someone who repeatedly shows extreme hatred towards TSP as a region or particular players, why do you choose to be a SOP of the unofficial channel? Do you really think you could exercise fair judgement?

See, the thing is about logs from TSP or from Spiritus - I don't mind if you post them all here. Do go ahead. My general tendency is to ask people things directly and in a direct manner rather then presenting one facade in public and another in private. Perhaps its an area I should work on.

My concern is being able to discuss topics of interest without being muzzled by someone who has been a "dick" on various occasion and has consciously burned bridges with people who disagree with him.

I have asked Asta for an appeal and my concern that you are not well-suited to be SOP for a channel when you are unable to divest yourself from politics. As for your personal issues with other players, I'm not sure how that is an excuse for your behavior. In fact, it reminds me of when I was delegate and a certain groups of players threatened and fear-mongered civil war and coups if I didn't agree with their policies. Then too the same empty words were used to suppress questions or divergent opinions. Is it a wonder that I have strong opinions on which people are honest and trust-worthy and those who are capable of spiteful actions? Every feeling or belief I have comes from personal experience.

In any event, if that is how you really feel then I'm not sure why again you would consider yourself impartial in this matter and if you're health is actually suffering then possibly taking a break would be best.

Please do post the public channel logs for both places and my query here, if you mention it you should be able to back it up.

Oh and furthermore:

A message from Raven's forum Alexandria where other then hope to plan a festival in order to rebuild something between certain players\regions I had no interest.

vBulletin Message
You have been banned for the following reason:
"Abuse of Power"

Date the ban will be lifted: Never

Really class act there, Raven. It's your forum so your prerogative to due as you wish but you also lose the opportunity to say you are fair, just or impartial in any way.

I'm also banned from #the_south_pacific and I'm not sure why. The moderation of the channel is basically slanted to whose political side you're on. It's OPs are mostly non-natives (Raven etc.). I'd like to see a TSP IRC channel for TSPers develop.

Personally, I don't want to see #the_south_pacific linked on our forums anymore - it officializes something which is not only unofficial, but unregulated, badly maintained and poorly represents The South Pacific. It's not a social environment that I'd like to see The South Pacific promote to new players as the 'TSP experience' - it's a pissing hole for foreigners, independents and The Empire - an embarrassment, not an endearment. If you're not part of their club, you can barely get on in a conversation without being attacked by someone from their little clubbie.

This attitude would be fine if we stopped linking your channel as being our IRC channel on the official forums and on the WFE. It we switched our promotion to a new, native TSP channel, you could do whatever you liked with your club. But until then, all of the promotion that #the_south_pacific receives does make it responsible to The South Pacific as a region and if they're not willing to be responsible to The South Pacific, we really shouldn't invest in it as a channel.
