According to the polls compiled by Wikipedia, Clinton leads in almost every poll conducted in the past several months.

Have I mentioned how wierd this primaries thing is? I'm not even sure I understand it. Here the party selects it leader by itself when necessary, then we just hold the single federal vote.

It's simple, really. Instead of having the party choose who's running, the choice guess to the people. They vote for their favorite candidate within a party, and the one with the most votes for that party goes on to run with party support.

Here, only the PNP, the pro-statehood party, does primaries, or so I've heard.

I wouldn't say that parties in the US use primaries to select their leader. Sure, often the President will be the party leader, but the two concepts are not as related as they are in a parliamentary system.

Just for comparison's sake, here in Peru we don't really have primaries. Parties are either formed around a prospepctive candidate (and only last for that election) or already have an undisputed leader. So our politics are much more personalised, and usually you'll have multiple parties/candidates advocating roughly the same positions.
