RG's One Year in NS

Amen! Хай живе Карнетворя! (Hay žive Karnetvorya! Yes, I can actually read Cyrillic Tounge).

Thanks to all of you for your wishes Happywide And now, due to popular demand, my story!

A year ago, I was watching this video on YouTube. Basically, the two guys in the video "create" a nation (or more accurately, a micronation) following the rules set by the Montevideo Convention. I googled the nation's name out of curiosity, and found out that somebody had created a nation on NS with the same name. I had never heard of it before, so I didn't now what to expect. I entered the page, and saw the header, "NationStates. Create Your Own Nation". That got my attention, as I had an idea in my head for a fictional nation, and I thought, "I can create it here!"

I answered the initial questions, configured the settings, chose a flag (I already knew how the flag would look like, but didn't have the means to make it, so I decided to select a RL flag with the same colors. I picked the flag of Libya), and typed the nation's name. The name "Karnetvor" has an interesting origin; while I was searching for ideas for a nation name (before I found NS) I was watching Cartoon Network on TV. "Cartoon Network... Cartunetvor... Karnetvor!" It sounded alright, so I used it (since then, I have used two city names from two old Cartoon Network shows to remember the connection. Bonus points to anybody who spots them Wink).

My nation was created on the South Pacific (and I've never moved, so I am officially 100% South Pacifican Happywide). None of the recruitment telegrams interested me, so I stayed here. I read the FAQ, but I still had tons of questions; "Why can't I make war?" "What is a region?" "WA?" "Why is the region page in Italian?" (this was during Kris' delegacy, and he changed the WFE's theme at least once per week to add variety. This was a  regional event called "Language Week", in which he changed the text on the WFE to a different language every day for a week). I answered the first five issues, voted for a WA resolution, "Debris Prevention" (it passed, but was repealed earlier this week. How ironic Tounge), and went to sleep.

The next day, I looked at the issue results and said, "this is fun! I can make my country progress! But surely there must be something else to do..." I applied for citizenship in the forums, which I got two days later. At first, I felt out of place, because the ones posting were usually the ones in government (that was my first impression; I didn't know other people were posting too), and only posted twice that month to keep my citizenship, and get a spot on the map.

That changed in October after Karnetvor's one month anniversary (I remember I proudly announced it on the RMB, and Kris actually posted a congratulations message on the WFE), for various reasons.

First, Z Day happened. To the ones who haven't experienced it, it's basically two days where the NS site is invaded by zombies. I joined a "squad" led by Henn, TAC, and Farengeto, to defend the region against the undead. After I looked at all the people that had collaborated for that goal, I decided to get more involved.

Second, the Sporaltryan War RP happened, and with it, the revival of Treasure Island. In the war, I acted as a neutral nation, that occassionally issued condemnations against the different factions. But that was still on the sidelines. The first RP in which I played a major role was Qwert's The Distress Call. I enjoyed it a lot, so I decided to dedicate myself to roleplay (you could say I owe in part my presence here to Henn, JCRules, and Qwert. Thanks to the three of you Smile)

Third, I found the Hall of Spam. It served as an ice-breaker of sorts, so I started posting more.

And the rest, is history Happywide If some of you have any questions about my time here, ask away!

Oh man, I loved those. Making all those fun activities on the WFE is one of the reasons I sometimes wish I was the Delegate again. Tounge

I remember "Distress Call". In retrospect, it was the first real activity to involve me and you and Qwert, and I'm only realizing now how much it laid the groundwork for the SPTO.
