Yeah, because the Republicans wanted to go to isolation, contrary to what President Wilson want to do.
Interventionism isn't always the answer. Many of today's problems were strongly influenced by U.S. Interventionism. The hostile relationship with Iran, to name just one.

To touch up on "pulling out in 2011", what was the better alternative then? Keep troops in the region?
At least if we stayed in Iraq, ISIS wouldn't be such a big problem. Iraq can't even survive on its own, that's why ISIS controls what, half of the country now.
Why did the U.S. Even need to be in Iraq before that?

The Gulf War. Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, so we all got together to stop it.
However, the Gulf War was a lose-lose situation for the U.S. If we stayed out, we would have given Saddam Hussein more power. If we went in, 9/11 was going to happen.
