Local Council Election Campaigns Picking up Pace

The second round of TSP’s June election season has been running for over a week and the candidates for the Local Council election are making their voices heard on the Regional Message Board (RMB) with their campaigns. Nominations began at 20:00 EDT on the Wednesday 15th June and ran until the evening of the 18th.  Since then the official candidates have been writing up their campaign promises and sharing them with fellow TSP nations on the RMB, although not all of the official candidates have yet submitted a campaign to the Electoral Commission consisting of [nation=short]Feirmont[/nation] and [nation=short]Farengeto[/nation].

The campaigning has been very good-natured so far, with several candidates highlighting their competitor’s campaign posts alongside their own and, in at least one case, even helping to write one.  With some candidates having remained silent, however, and campaign posting kept to a minimum, there isn’t much of an electoral buzz to be found on the RMB.  Even with less than a day until voting commences, there is still plenty of time for the atmosphere to change.

The list of official candidates is as follows:

You can read the campaign posts of those who have so far submitted one by reading [nation=short]Feirmont[/nation]’s excellent dispatch.  Voting will commence via a poll on the South Pacific main page at 20:00 EDT on Saturday 25th June.

Editor's note: Seraph is standing election in the LC election. I (Omega) intend to keep SPN as unbiased as possible and have therefore screened this for any bias. It has passed my standards.

Local Council Election Underway

As of 20:00 EDT last night (01:00 GMT this morning), the poll for the Local Council election has opened and all of the South Pacific’s World Assembly members may now vote for the candidate they would like to see join the Local Council.  The new Council will consist of the three nations who have come out on top when voting concludes at 20:00 EDT on Tuesday 28th June.

At the time of writing, Belschaft is the frontrunner with six votes, Erinor/Seraph is in second place with four votes and Pencil Sharpeners 2 is third with three votes.  The Derpy Democratic Republic of Herp/Gordon Freeman has two votes, The Solar System Scope, Punchwood, Curlyhoward and Zadiner/Zak6858 all have one vote each and Sporaltryus/Cathalea, Aramanchovia and Sepia Island have yet to receive any votes.  There have been three abstentions.

There are hundreds of WA nations in the South Pacific, so there is every possibility of the results being shaken up over the next three days.  If you want to vote, make sure that you are a WA member and that you’ve read all the campaigns found here.  As each nation may only place one vote, it may become necessary for nations to vote for a candidate they would like to see on the Council who is lagging behind, rather than a popular frontrunner.

Voting concludes on Tuesday evening (EDT).

Breaking: sources within the High Court inform us we can expect a answer on the most recent Legal Question facing the court. The question was laid out in two parts by Belschaft and will have ramifications over what powers the cabinet has. We will have a special SOR out this weekend over the new ruling. Stay tuned for more
Above all else, I hope to be a decent person.

Well we messed up

2 days ago it was reported we could expect an answer soon on the current HCLQ. This proved false. The Permanent Justice has now stated his intent to have a pool of justices selected before a ruling is made. The Assembly is currently facing a measure to re-adopt the Judiciary Act on which voting should conclude in 3 days.
We would like to apologize to the people of TSP for having information out before a situation had completely developed. We do still expect a ruling to made with in the next 2 week but an exact time frame is unknown.
Above all else, I hope to be a decent person.

High Court Chooses to let the People Decide

In a stunning move by the High Court of TSP a ruling on HCLQ 1609(?) was not. It was in the opinion of the Permanent Justice of the High Court (Ferimont) that a ruling could not be made on the first section of the HCLQ due to the fact he believed there was no law to interpret, regarding if the Assembly has the right to vote on the dissolution of treaties. A ruling was also not issued based on the fact that the Assembly was currently debating the issue and that there would be a vote in the near future on the matter.
But the second part is the most intriguing. The high court made no mention on the question: does the cabinet has powers beyond those in the charter given to it? However, in non-offical discussions the Permanent Justice of the High Court did say that the second part of that question would require a full trial. It will be interesting to see if a trial is held.
That's all for now. We'll try to keep everyone up to date on news from around TSP. Thank you all and good day.
Above all else, I hope to be a decent person.

Breaking: HCLQ 1610 has been answered by the High Court of TSP. The answer is fairly neutral to each side and does answer all 3 parts of the legal question, despite calls for parts 1 and 2 to be thrown out.
Above all else, I hope to be a decent person.

Breaking PermanentJustice to Step Down

In a statement released today, Feirmont announced he would be stepping down from being Permanent Justice. He will officially resign on September 3rd. We don't know why this decision was made however, some speculation exists that we might see him run for office this October. We will have more as this develops.

Breaking: following a vote in the Assembly both pieces of proposed resolution on the topic of treaties have failed. The clearest cause if the LC block vote, wich for the first time was cast against the way legislator voted. The debate will now resume in the Assembly.
