Shared History (With Sedunn)

Age of The White Lotus

1542s: Pirates and Seafarers of the Feng Dynasty heard a naval power from a faraway land, “known to be in the ends of the world” In the spirit of imperialism and colonialism, Empress Reina Taizong orders the navy to search for the nation in question, as well as increase Feng influence in the region.

1550s: Feng treasure ships landed at Sedunn carrying an expedition force and chartists. The Feng Dynasty (Now Huawan) deployed vassals to the Sedunnic King, offering silk and tea as a peace offering. Exchange of goods are made, and the Empress was pleased to see another world other than hers.

1590s: Feng Merchants provided exotic goods to Sedunn and vice versa. A shipping lane was built, known as one of the largest and most intricate shipping lines in history. Piracy towards Sedunnic merchant ships are ordered to stand down, and piracy moved to northern waters.

Feng Dynasty, Taizong Era

Early 1600s: Exchange of goods are on a larger and more controlled scale. Commerce of the two countries increased heavily. Missionaries from Sedunn enter and establish their presence in the Feng Dynasty. Islamic missionaries enter Sedunn.

1640s: Charts and Maps are shared between Sedunn and the Feng Dynasty. The first visit by Feng Emperor, Qin Taizong, was made to the Kingdom. Relations grew warm.

1665s: Exchange of technology are made between Kingdoms, Emperor Qin Taizong expects the flourishment of Feng-Sedunnic relations. Feng medicine flourished in Sedunnic trade cities. A Sedunnic trade outpost is constructed, known as Nesvem bay (lit. Tree Harbour). Artillery and cannons are produced in the Feng Dynasty under Sedunnic designs. Confucian academies grew in Sedunn.

1685: Sedunnic Culture is taken in by the Feng Dynasty, its exotic properties have taken a liking to the upper class. A trend in which wearing its clothes and speaking Sedunnic language is a sign of intelligence. Sedunnic Sphere of Influence grows.

1695: Emperor Tang Taizong was proclaimed Emperor, succeeding his father Qin Taizong as Overlord of the Feng Dynasty.

1700s: Sedunnic shipbuilding puts its timber industry under large strain, also imposing a severe threat of deforestation. To save its forests, and to maintain the ever expanding shipbuilding industry, Sedunn starts to look abroad for supply of timber.

1705: Emperor Tang Taizong offers Sedunn wood for shipbuilding, which currently is in shortage in Sedunn. Sedunn starts purchasing wood at a larger scale at high prices. While commerce increase, the divide between the rich and poor in Huawan enlargens.

1710: Commisioned by Emperor Tang Taizong, Pro-Sedunn companies decides to increase wood production by deforesting more of Feng forests. Longer hours of toil, corruption and low welfare prompted further dislike from the people. Military of the Feng Dynasty grew in response to the increasing timber. Pirate influence is slowly degraded as more assets was drawn for militaristic purposes. Discontent started in the colonies.

1712: Unrest occur in the Feng Dynasty, demanding higher pay and lower hours. The Feng administration ignored the pleas of the people and continue to produce timber forests, especially in the Forests of Zakariya and the Eterna Forests. Emperor Taizong gave monetary compensations to the peasants, the people accepted, but relations between them grew from dislike to hate.

1714: With backing from the Sedunnic king Paksarr I, Emperor Taizong orders The Sacred Forests and Heaven’s Trees to be cut down. This sparked outrage, as these two forests are considered sacred and must not be tampered at all costs. The presence of sacred timber in the market severely increased the prices of timber, and widespread inflation began.

War of the Red Moon

1715: Violent unrest begun in the cities of the Feng dynasty, Emperor Taizong responded with force, official backing and aid was given from the King of Sedunn. Secret sabotages are done by the people of Aweiqinna towards the Emperor’s forces to protect the Heaven’s Trees.

1716: A massacre in the village of Āwéiqínnà by Emperor Taizong to rout the villagers. It is said that the fire, gunpowder and blood around the sacred city tainted the moon red. Known as the War of The Red Moon. Sparked by the atrocity, several figureheads sparked numerous rebellions occur in the major towns, all met with violence. Emperor Taizong requested aid from Sedunn, The King of Sedunn personally provided aid to terminate the rebels. The Sedunnic parliament was divided over supporting the emperor or remaining neutral, It did not approve the king's petitions to enter the war, but it did not stop the king from using his personal wealth and mercenaries.

1717: With most of the enriched loyalists in the military, the pirates of Lian, Yin, Mudan and ZeShui united and led the fight. The four core leaders took the name, Sìtiānwáng to define the unity of leaders, and took the name, Huawang (King of Flowers), as the name of the rebellion. They took the fight by sieging government buildings, industries and routing royal forces, forcing loyalists to retreat to capital WeiSheng.

1718: Sedunnic trade contingent and prominent Sedunnic merchants loyal to the Sedunnic king vow their allegiance with the Emperor and joins the fight against rebels. This prompts the pirates to attack Sedunnic ships, and the Sedunnic Parliament decides to mobilise the navy to defend the trade routes. Sedunnic ships attack pirate coves all over the South Pacifican region. The rebels responded by capturing and driving off the Sedunnic people. After the brutal murders of a thousand Sedunners that tainted the river red, The Sedunnic parliament flew to a rage, prompting the country to provide more military aid including several military advisors and weapons.

1719: The greatest defeat of Royal forces, came in the battle of MuShu, when majority of royal forces, mercenaries and Sedunnic support are destroyed and captured. At the same time, ZeShui Rebel Leader and Pirate King, Gao Feng, blocked off Sedunnic shipping routes that were carrying weapons and war equipments under guise of merchants. Blocking off aid in the river delta and isolating the Feng loyalists. Sedunn starts seeking new trade partners for lumber and other exotic products.

1720: Rebel forces march into WeiSheng, where Emperor Taizong makes his last stand. Known as The Great Siege of Kabane, the pirates stormed the palace by boat and took the city as fire rockets were shot. The emperor is toppled and is sentenced to beheading. The Taizong family sent to house imprisonment while remnants rounded and imprisones. Rebel flags flew over the Royal Palace. Period of anarchy began, country became known as Huawang. Rebel leaders discuss on the fate of the Sedunnic contingent.

Huawang Dynasty

1721: A Sedunnic military envoy sent by the Sedunnic king met the four leaders of the Sìtiānwáng. He claimed to the rebels to not underestimate the power of Sedunn, which is far more advanced than those of the Rebels, proven by the campaign, even going as far as asking for renewing the trade deal for timber, as well as freedom of the Sedunnic contingent. That is when Rebel Leader Guan Yu of Lian threw a knife and cut the ears of the emissary, saying: "The King's request is so ridiculous even his emissary's ears fell off after hearing it". This prompted the beheading of several Sedunnic mercenaries and figureheads along with several individuals that committed most heinous crimes against the people. The rest are sent back to Sedunn in ships, along with them are several those (mostly upper class) that favored Emperor Taizong, who were sentenced to exile. With it, Huawang breaks all diplomatic contacts with Sedunn. Relations between states sour.

1722: Vetem bay, the last holdout of the Sedunnic remnants fought well against invaders and spies. Adjoined forces of the port city are able to repel back the invaders, until pardon was given to them after nearly two years of battle. Several sedunners are allowed to live in Vetem bay in exchange for semiautonomy with Huawang.
Meanwhile, the Huawang dynasty decides to rebuild its military efforts and nation by seeking further trade partners through expedition efforts up north. Yin Rebel Leader Mangling Mangtsen became the empress of the dynasty, with Gao Feng as its High Commodore, Guan Yu as the High General and Ming-Na Wen (Rebel Leader of Mudan) became Minister of the Interior.

1725: Vetem bay resistance died down after negotiations, and Sedunners are allowed to live in Vetem bay with great observation and restriction. Of which those of Sedunnic blood are prohibited from several job positions in the new Huawang Dynasty. Treasure ships are constructed and expeditionary forces continue to rout the rest of the Royalists under the old Feng dynasty.

1730: Huawang pirates takes control of the Zhǎnghǎi Qítóu (Plot 141), setting a trading outpost to the far northeast. Escalating navy and pirate buildup occurs in the islands. A large shipping lane between Huawang and Zhanghai was made, and it was one of the most extensive and largest undertaking in naval transport.

1745: Piracy escalated in the trans-pacific ocean surrounding the Huawang shipping lanes, some of which are controlled by Huawang pirates. Gao Feng passed, and another pirate took the place as High Commodore, Gao Feng’s daughter Shao Yan [age 18 at that time]. The Huawang dynasty grew and expanding its power further west (Conquering 061/Tir Chonaill and 057 until 1850), unlike Taizong, under Empress Mangsten and her further successors, the countrymen works alongside nature instead of exploiting them.

Shao Yan: The Scarlet Terror

1746 - 1755 Under her own pirate banner, Shao Yan amasses great popularity in the sea, her group of pirates and mercenaries set a campaign to take over the pacific sea, entered into conflict with the existing empires of the time. Her pirates took the South Pacifican region by violence, or by trade. By 1755 at the age of 28, she is considered to be the most successful pirates in history and her banner became one of the world's most feared in decades. The Huawang dynasty flourished and its products, influence spread across the region, with a price that trading corporations of other empires are almost paralyzed by Huawang’s prowess in commerce.

1759: To combat the evergrowing piracy, Sedunn challenges Huawang and the pirates of Shao Yan by flaunting their military might and increasing security in trans pacific trade. After freezing Huawang traders and destroying pirate coves, Huawang responded by urging pirates to continue pestering the trans-pacific trade, taking further combat against Sedunnic efforts.

1759 - 1771: Karnetvor assembles with Sedunn to create a joint effort and crackdown evergrowing piracy in the trans pacific. Evergrowing combat between pirates and the Sedunno-Karnetian navies escalates, with Sedunnic privateers attacking Huawang merchant ships in the north. New laws are drafted, primarily with evergrowing philosophical influence that wishes urgent amendment in the dynasty of Huawang.

Age of The Red Lotus, Peo-Sedunnic War of The Seas

1761: Marked by the death of Empress Mangsten, Huawang rule is relegated to Shao Yan, under her rule, the nation proclaimed official sovereignty, and rose from anarchy into Peocracy, a philosophical take of pro-naturalist and pro-disciplinary reforms of the people of Huawang. Shao Yan took the title “The Peony”, and proclaimed the state to be known as “Huawan”, making Shao Yan one of the founders of the Peocracy. Piracy became stronger under The Peony. Though northern states accepted Peonic sovereignty, Sedunn and its allies continue to urge its rejection, accusing it of being “simply a gathering of thieves and pirates”.

Although this is known as the Age of the Peony, influence by Shao Yan in the coming years marked this day as the “Age of The Red Lotus”

1762: With the pirates of Shao Yan and the navy of Huawan under one entity, Huawan proclaimed war against Sedunn and Karnetvor for control over the sea. With most of combat being at sea and in islands. Marking one of the most epic naval interventions in the history of the region. Although outnumbered and outgunned, Peonic knowledge of the seas and naval warfare ultimately gave them some degree of advantage at times.

1764: The largest naval battle in the Peo-Sedunnic war, known as the Battle of the Narwhal, took place in the middle of the sea. With hundreds of ships taking part in the battle, cannons rung throughout the sea. It is said that the sound of cannons were so loud, it was heard until Zhanghai.

1765: As tensions escalate, a surprising event occured when a Peonic Pirate Lord and sister of Shao Yan, Shao Feng, fell in love with a Sedunnic naval captain called Mats Bakkallu. Their marriage was challenged by both sides, but it inspired delegations from both sides to negotiate a ten year truce between the Peonic navy and pirates with Sedunnic and Karnetian navies.

1765-1774: As times of peace occur, The Peony, Shao Yan often provided gifts and exchanged letters with the new Sedunnic King. Trying to mend what is left of a shattered relation. Privateers and mercenaries are paid off and treasure ships are recalled back to the mainland/

1775: Both The Peony and King Poljier II meet to negotiate a settlement. Both nations agree to stop hostilities. Peonic pirates are to stop terrorizing the trans-pacific sea and terrorize vassals that carry the Sedunnic or Karnetian banner, in exchange for monetary compensation for the losses in the revolution, the return of Peonic pirates and prisoners, as well as the official recognition of the Peocracy. Relations normalise.

1776: The Peony orders the construction of a fleet of treasure and exploration ships 200 metres in length, made to explore the seas outside charted territory and establish a Peonic cooperation from former colonies. Over 10 of these ships are commissioned for construction, and they shall be known as the largest treasure ships to have ever been made. The Peony also commissioned the construction of a colossal fleet of a hundred warships to ensure the safety of Peonic interests and trade, as well as continue on its piracy outside the agreed area.

1777: The Peony increased logging expeditions as well as trade for wood in the territory, however, an order was carried out that for every tree fallen, 50 must be planted in its place, thus explaining the dense forestry in the future later on.

1780: The Peony Shao Yan passed away, and was suceeded by her son Xin Yan. He would continue relations with Sedunn, although his priorities are mostly revitalizing and maintaining national standards.

1785: The Sailor's Mosque was also built by Sedunners and foreigners engaged in the Seslinn trade. The famous naval captain Matts Bakkallu who married Shao Feng from Huawan is believed to be the initiator. Finished in 1785, the Mosque has been visited by muslim travellers and sailors from all over the world and is owned by the Friends of the Sailor's Mosque (Seifibō Poltō Nuvnlē), a non-profit organisation.

Industrialization, Shogunate Era

1823: Huawan starts coal mining operations, and begins a slow yet steady rise of industrialism and production. The steam engine was introduced and designs of steamboats were also introduced. Short distance vessels begun taking the shape of steamboats.

1844: New designs of Sedunnic gunboats inspired Huawan to research ironclads. As the growing use of incendiary shells was a huge vulnerability to wooden ships, which was the Peonic fleet's most used material.

1846: First ironclads were in production, and wooden transport sailboats are fitted with plated armor. The Peonic navy began upgrading to steam frigates for long distance naval operations.

1852: The Era of the Shogunate began, Shoguns were appointed to serve under The Peony as military commanders and head governing officials in several cities.

1863: Modernization of ships continue in Huawan, and defensive mechanisms were also researched. The usage of Krupp artillery, torpedoes, gatling guns and rockets are made. While armored and steampowered, most Peonic ships undertaking trans-continental voyages are still sailing ships. The Treasure fleet continued to operate in these voyages, often providing much needed support to the Peonic colonies.

1865: The first designs for screw propeller, the compound engine was written up by Peonic naval researchers. The designs of trans-continental ocean liners began, known as "Race of Steampower"

1872: The First Passenger Liners, known as the 破晓 (Po Xiao, DayBreak) began operation on a Sedunnic-Peonic transport line. It is also sees the first utilization of the railway in Huawan, with both Gi-Lanndian, Sedunnic and Ryccian trains introduced in the Peocracy.

1873: By help of Sedunnic companies, Huawan began construction of railways in the east. The west was begun through aid by Gi-Lanndian companies. Huawan began production of its own rolling stocks, with passenger, timber, coal, copper and tea became the top commodities for transport.

1876: The railway in the east to central Huawan was linked. Construction began to create a tunnel in the Cordillera range.

1880: Population in Huawan boomed, placing a heavy strain in its agricultural efforts. Transcontinental commercial trade profited greatly in Huawan

1886: While oil has been used in Huawan for centuries since the first refinements in 600 AD, it wasn't until 1886 that the Peonic government began to refine oil for fuel. Techniques to produce gasoline were done, and the first automobiles were introduced.

1888: First automobiles under Sedunnic design were made, and the first large refinery was made in Wei Sheng. Gasoline began to become a widespread commodity.

1892: First usage of oil for small naval vessels began.

The Bug Famine

1914: An increase in a vermin infestation caused food production in The Peocracy to decline. The Peony orders a swift burning of infested lands to curb the vermins. Burning several farmlands in the process, and reducing food supplies while increasing its prices threefold.
An accident in the national food storage caused the rice and wheat supplies to severely decrease, causing supply chains to go lower. Initiating the infamous “Bug Famine”, the famine had also meant that coal demand for cooking are getting lower. Huawan began to produce charcoal as better and cheapier alternatives for mined coal.

1915: Entry in the year marks a large downfall of the trust in the Peony, and The Peony immediately sent emissaries and merchants to negotiate a food deal, and The Peony is willing to trade any raw materials in the state in exchange for an emergency supply of food until the Famine is over. Peonic Pirates try to tip the famine scales as well by increasing their fishing prospects as well.

1915-1916: The Empire of Ubesii declared war on Sedunn after it declined an ultimatum to rent the city of Loennvem to Ubesii, attempting to remove the fierce Sedunnic competition for trade. The comprehensive activities of the navy and a strained supply of coal had the Sedunnic government look for alternatives not to have to reduce the intensity of the operations of the navy. With Sedunn having a high production and supply of foodsstuffs, and Huawan having a surplus of coal, an agreement was made to exchange these vital goods.

However, with the majority of its fleet directly engaged in the war against the Empire of Ubesii, Sedunn founds itself unable to protect the transports crossing the Pacific Ocean. Therefore it was included in the agreement that the Peocracy also would protect Sedunnic ships through its pirates. The deal worked to their mutual satisfaction.

1916: The Bug famine is over, and relations between states grow better. The Peony offers further help in Sedunn’s reconstruction in exchange for industrial aid, The Peocracy started to revitalize its naval power. Cruisers and frigates began replacing ironclads, and the pirates of Huawan are slowly reintegrated to the navy.

1921: Joint Peo-Sedunnic cooperation created a new line of weapons and arms.

1932: Under The Peony and Shogun, Mei Yan, coal mining slowly phased out as cleaner and more sustainable methods of producing charcoal was improved. Gasoline also replaced coal in the naval fleet of Huawan. Making charcoal and petrol the tools of war.

1936: Huawan started to produce frigates, cruisers at large volumes. A second large oil refinery in Mianping with Sedunnic collaboration. Prompted the construction of Port Serenade, a mixed military and commercial naval base.
