Anybody heard about the situation in Catalonia? The region's government has scheduled a referendum on independence from Spain, and has pledged to declare independence almost immediately after if the "Yes" option wins. The Spanish government is trying everything it can to stop it from happening, and with that I mean everything. The situation is very serious. The referendum will, in theory, take place on October 1st.

The 20:10 h (currently latest) projection of the German election:

CDU/CSU (Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union): 32.8% (-8.7%)
SPD (Social Democratic Party): 20.8% (-4.9%)
AfD (Alternative for Germany): 13.1% (+8.4%)
FDP (Free Democratic Party): 10.3% (+5.5%)
Bündnis '90/Die Grünen (Greens): 9.1% (+0.7%)
Die Linke (The Left): 9.0% (+0.4%)
Others: 4.9% (-1.4%)

The currently governing parties CDU/CSU and SPD have lost many votes in comparison to 2013.
Merkel's CDU got its lowest result under her lead (but not its lowest result in history).
The SPD's percentage is the lowest for the Social Democrats since the foundation of the new German federal republic in 1949. Martin Schulz and other major politicians of the party already announced, the SPD will not continue the coalition with the CDU, but will lead the opposition instead.
The third strongest party is the right-wing, extremely conservative, populistic and majorly nationalistic AfD. They would lead the opposition, if CDU and SPD would get into a coalition with one another.
The FDP is back in the Bundestag again, but sadly failed to beat the AfD.
Both the Greens and the Left gained percentages in comparison to 2013, but still are now only places 5 and 6 in the parliament.

Although the most likely coalition still would be one between CDU/CSU and SPD, a Jamaica coalition out of CDU/CSU, FDP and Greens is possible too and perhaps will be considered first, since the SPD wants to lead the coalition. Coalition talks would be difficult though, because the Greens hate the FDP and CSU, the CSU hates the Greens and don't really like the FDP either currently and FDP and Greens both gained some self-esteem in the last couple of weeks, months and years.

The voter participation lay at around 75%.

In Berlin is a big demonstration against the AfD currently, which got the potential to end violently. I'll keep up to date.

Furthermore Berlin voted in a referendum on whether the airport Berlin Tegel (IATA: TXL), the fourth largest airport of Germany, will remain open after the Berlin Airport (BER), maybe you've heard of this masterpiece of an airport before, will open or not. 57.5% of the populace is currently for it (463 out of 2.439 constituencies finished counting).
Even if the referendum is successful though, it doesn't mean it will reach its aim. Referendum results aren't definite and the current government of Berlin doesn't want to remain Tegel open.

That's from me for now. If something interesting or new happens, I will report it here.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe has called for a snap election on 22 October. His biggest opponent will likely be Yuriko Koike, a populist and former ally.

Today, Catalonians are voting for independence as grawling across the Spanish province ensues.

I have a cousin there who's pro-seperatist. He says in half broken english that the riot police and the people are in a panic. One minute clip from him and I hear whistles, guns, rocks being thrown, angry people and crying people.

This has been a pressure bomb waiting to explode.

Catalonia is one of the richest provinces of Spain. But with its own language and kinda different culture, add that to extreme number of xenphobia driven by a huge number of tourists, that pretty much paints Catalonia's situation.

Also I think they are going to try another subsitute for capitalism if they win. I think its called syndicalism.
