Declassified: Resolution of Empire Concern
#21

Can one of you just sign the damn thing? While we're sitting here twiddling our thumbs about who signs what, Bel is making the case that inaction means he's innocent.

It doesn't. All it proves is that we're not over-reacting and taking care of Bel as a long-term threat as opposed to an imminent threat.

Given this discussion: We'll make it Kris on be half of the CRS.

I agree. It's better to act carefully, particularly when we're taking action that sets precedent. For better or worse, this agreement is the first of its kind, and we need to make sure we get it right.

That said, I did pass along the agreement as written to Bel, with the substitution of "Kris Kringle on behalf of the CRS" for Prime Minister.

I don't think it undermine anything, despite what Bel says.

I still don't get why we can't just have it signed collectively as the CRS.

... because I don't think it's practical to wait for 6 people to post?

We need some way to select/elect/have a leader.

What Farengeto means is the signature should just say "The Council on Regional Security", similar to how the Cabinet signs its statements as "The Cabinet of the South Pacific".

The idea was that we're not dictating this ... that we're jointing agreeing to this with Bel.

Primarily, I think part of the enforcement in that he publicly says he'll abide by it. As such, it's key to have someone from each party to sign this, b/c I want it publicly acknowledged.

This is the response from Bel:

Quote:I'm sorry Tsu, the CRS made an allegation that it has not proven and that I believe I have actively demonstrated to be untrue. I cannot possibly agree to sign a statement endorsing that falsehood. I have no problem with reducing my endorsement count or not running for election/seeking appointed, but I will not endorse a lie.

If the CRS believes it has evidence that I am a member/agent of Empire, they are free to present such - but they haven't.

If we want to enact our Security Powers now ... this would be the time. I told him we were prepared to do so.

"The CRS attempted to reach a lenient plea agreement with Belschaft, but despite numerous attempts, he ultimately rejected all deals offered. Pursuant to to the Security Powers Act, the CRS has found substantial reason to declare Belschaft a security risk. Given the gravity of the threat Empire poses, and the evidence that Belschaft offered to serve as a core Empire member's agent in TSP, we conclude that the appropriate security precautions to take are sections 2©, 2(d), and 2(i). The endorsement limit for Belschaft will be 70% of the endorsement cap, under section 2(i).

While we have already conducted a thorough investigation and Belschaft has had ample time to respond, in accordance with Article 1 Section 4 of the Security Powers Act, Belschaft will be given the opportunity to supply testimony again to the CRS. Depending on that testimony, further actions may or may not be taken."

Something similar to that, I reckon.
