Please Vote Yes to Promote General Roavin to "General"
#41

I was in the SPSF for a while and watched....near the end of Imki's term, she set a 1-org policy. Roavin upheld it for a time when he replaced her, so obviously he wasn't gonna join TGW while being a MoMA. There's also that to consider. (Also, maybe he just felt bad? I was banned for being a member of multiple raider UCRs, whose sole purpose was to tag raid and have small occupations. I got banned. Maybe Roavin simply didn't want to feel like he's abusing his power as MoMA by changing the policy just for himself...? But months later, Vietnam changed it.)

Vietnam abolished the 1-org policy, though we still strongly discourage poaching military members (obviously). The times of absolute distrust have changed. I don't mind people being a member of their R/D UCRs, honestly. As long as they maintain TSP opsec and remain active in SPSF. They're put to a higher activity standard than TSP-onlys.

It's probably being moved through now because we elected a new Minister of Military Affairs who actually cares whether or not an active General Corps exists. We could continue to have totally inactive people as Generals, or we could have an actually active General Corps if people could worry more about activity than about conflicts of interest. The regionalists in this community need to realize that because they sit around and do nothing except snipe at each other in the Assembly, the only active people we have to put in these positions are cosmopolitans. If they want regionalists in these positions, maybe the regionalists among us should do something productive for a change. But I won't hold my breath.

These kinds of debates are why TSP has low activity and people get fed up and move on to other regions. Why are we once again debating Roavin's conflict of interest when he has already proven in the past -- as Minister of Military Affairs -- that he is more than capable of managing any conflict of interest? Why are people making insinuations that this is some kind of conspiracy just because past Ministers of Military Affairs didn't care whether the General Corps was active? Yuno was just elected and people are already implying she's acting in bad faith. What you folks would deserve for acting this way is if Roavin and Yuno both moved on to doing other things and forgot that TSP even existed. Seriously, no one needs to keep your military active and continue doing the many other things the rest of you aren't doing while getting heaped with questions and insinuations about their loyalties and motives. Roavin has already made his loyalty to TSP more than clear and it's really disgusting to see it being questioned by people who contribute literally nothing but acrimony to TSP.

TSP doesn't have low activity. In fact, I think some people are here because the regions they come from are dead or really suffering from actual low activity.

No one in this thread has questioned Roavin's credentials based on acrimony and the attempt to stifle discussion, even if I disagree with the points raised is more troubling.  People should feel comfortable asking questions and it seems like the military hasn't been keeping people updated with regular reports\sharing of activity until recently which is possibly why people have questions. Again, just because you agree or disagree with something doesn't give you the right to try to stifle discussion or debate especially when we have built-in time periods to debate and discuss.  If the only thing that is standing in between Roavin being confirmed as a General is ...gasp...people talking about it - then we have bigger issues.  For the third time, either  you believe in the power of Assembly in a consistent manner or seem to only believe in the Assembly when its agreeing with you.

Throwing the word acrimony around is also quite ironic here.

Generally, if you have reservations please use the thread to ask questions or check out the SPSF Discord or talk to anyone in the current cabinet - all of us are SPSF members Smile

I realize I'm incredibly late to this debate, but just voted against this "promotion" and, seeing that it has nothing to do with Roavin's qualifications or COI as has been discussed here, I wanted to explain my reasoning publicly.

Currently, Roavin is our Prime Minister, our head of government. He oversees the MoMA, which, in turn, oversees the SPSF. Due to really lack of precedence in the position, we don't have an apt comparison since he's our second PM under this system.

However, I find it redundant, at best, that our Prime Minister would be need to be confirmed to a position he technically oversees.

I get that this would be longer lasting that his term as PM and that it is a position with different responsiblities. But there's something convoluted about this for me.

I say that in turn to explain my vote, not to question Roavin's obvious qualifications nor attempt to rally people to change votes. Based on current voting, I fully anticipate Roavin with be confirmed, however, I think our positional hierarchy is something we should have a further discussion about.

While Tsu's argument does have validation, I will vote yes to this promotion as I believe that the issues presented by Tsu call more for a re-evaluation of our positional hierarchy rather then inhibiting our military's growth by barring a member that would be a fantastic asset to the SPSF in a leadership role such as this from said leadership role.
