The Progressive Party

Well, perhaps we could ask the OP what they meant by "The Progressive Party believes in" and then lists a ten-point platform. Once the OP reveals themself, that is.

It's a statement of principles, not a platform, nor a policybook nor a constitution. As Kringalia has quoted - the OP is an account managed by the party's staff since we have multiple organizers. Currently it's being operated by Unibot. Hi!

Not entirely sure what you're trying to get at with this, Todd. As was said on #the_south_pacific: a platform is a document of policies that a political party unveils before an election to promote their party. A platform would be much more specific.

This is a statement of principles to help inform potential new members - these new members will play a pivotal role in deciding our future party constitution, policybook and eventually even a platform for the next election. Our first meeting is July 28, 2014. Thanks for commenting. Smile

I feel it's Kringle behind the veil. Either way, this party does not feel good to me.

Gotta say I'm pretty disappointed to see the Delegate joining a political party, when we've managed to keep our region largely free of them for the last ten years.

I am a Citizen of the South Pacific above all, and as such am entirely within my rights to voice my opinion on all matters on my concern, including the principles that I think are best for this region.

And no one has had any difficulty doing so without political parties - never mind the Delegate having that problem. To the contrary, they tend to promote division and institutionalize disunity by promoting factionalism and group mentalities. They're fundamentally bad ideas.

The linking to a bunch of NDP political documents gives a pretty big indication of who it is. Tounge (Hint: it's not Kris!)

Eh, maybe the region has been 'party' free, but there have been distinct blocs for a long time now. At the very least, formalizing these blocs into parties means we can stop pretending TSP runs on consensus. There's already disunity and factionalism in TSP, and it's already institutionalized in elections, laws, and social etiquette. Let's not pretend a few citizens gathering together to talk politics is going to destroy the peace and serenity of TSP.

That's not to say everybody who signed up for this define a solid voting bloc. Point #5 sounds an awful lot like those arguments about how RMB activity should count for citizenship -- which I disagree with. I'm sure a few of you guys think this is just an attempt by Unibot and I to turn TSP defender, too, which is a proposition I'm sure Kris & QD wouldn't support.

So I think you guys should just stop freaking out over something that hasn't even happened yet. A few of us on IRC (Unibot, God-Emperor, Kris, myself...) got to talking about political divides in TSP, and thought it would be interesting to see if a political party could work. Nothing more, nothing less. This isn't some conspiracy to trick everybody or to destroy the region.

Some of us sufficiently long memories - particularly of events in TEP - to see right through this. I'm fairly certain that Kris' intent is benign, but I remember what happened the last time Unibot tried this in a GCR.

I think Unibot is more complex than just being driven to turn TSP defender and drive you out of the region, Belschaft. And I think the people who are interested in this project are much smarter than you give them credit for, and won't be manipulated or tricked into doing that by some pretty logo and pastel colors.

History indicates otherwise. I see no reason to believe Unibot's pattern of behaviour or objectives are any different than they were six months ago. I remember what this did to TEP, and I dread it happening to TSP.
