A Surprise for the World to See
#21

Damien quickly typed up an update to Octavian:
Damien: A copy of the report will be sent to you soon

Octavian: That’s Great

Octavian: We’ve got an issue domestically right now in the 3rd District so I can’t really take over the matter

Damien: Alright, I’ll take over on this matter

Octavian: I trust you to be able to make the diplomatic decisions necessary, once this insurrection isn’t taking all of my time I’ll be able to assist.

"The Ryccian Federation objects to the public release of this file. These are classified documents that Ms. Castañielo should not have had in her possession. We refuse to consent to share the contents of the text inscribed therein"

"Moreover, there are Ryccian exclaves that dot the Valoran coast, and our mainland borders the east of Valora. What occurs in our neighbouring states is an issue of national security for the Ryccian Federation. This classified information has been collected our intelligence services and thus it is for the consumption of the Ryccian government only. Ms. Castañielo and whoever her contact is have committed a grave crime against the Ryccian state for divulging top-secret information. The Ryccian Federation demands that this speech made with classified information be stricken from the record and all documentation of this incident remain inaccessible to the general public"

The representative of FiHami drew out her phone stealthily, shooting messages to the highest in command in FiHami. She made sure to do her best to appear like she wasn't texting, glancing up often and making sure to remain attentive to the discussion.

Lia Kilaweioni: Ki Ha'Coron', we have a very interesting development going on, I was just going to bring it up in our next meeting, but it has gotten fairly important.

Finix Fi'Shi: What has happened?

Lia Kilaweioni: Ryccia has been hiding things. Things as in, human rights abuses. A whistleblower is presenting. The Ryccian Ambassador is denying the claims and demanding that this be kept secret.

Finix Fi'Shi: If such claims are true, Ryccia will have to answer sooner or later. If these claims are false, then there is something else going on between Valora and Ryccia.

Lia Kilaweioni: If Strunk doesn't push for a vote to investigate, I will take matters into my own hands.

Finix Fi'Shi: If you do that you're fired. If Strunk doesn't push for investigation (which I doubt he won't) then push for an investigation, but do not make any rash decisions. Hold your temper.

Lia Kilaweioni: The Whistleblower's life is in immediate danger.

Finix Fi'Shi: I give you clearance to do what you must to defend the whistleblower. But do not attack without provocation.

Lia Kilaweioni: I will likely have a copy of the report to give to you after this is finished.

Finix Fi'Shi: Acknowledge my command to you.

Lia Kilaweioni: I will not make rash decisions or act on the offensive unless provoked.

Damien turned on his microphone. “If I may interject, it is the responsibility of this body to discuss matters of peace, and while this whistleblower is not recognized by the Ryccian government as an official source, we are willing to work with Ms. Castañielo and allow her asylum within the Eggrarian holdings.”

He quickly regrouped himself.

“It is of the Eggrarian culture to assist all who are symbols of truth and peace. This is the creed of the Eggrarian people. If we were to stand by as a nation, we would be doing our own lifeblood a disservice. We suggest other nations offer their individual support of this whistleblower before a silencing of a horrendous crime occurs.”

He sits back, with the weight of the Eggrarian people on his shoulders. He can feel it, as this was his first speech to the body, but he believes he can represent the people well.

Strunk waited for the volume to die down a little before he resumed speaking:

"Thank you for these insights. In general every member of course has the right to keep things hidden from us, if necessary for national security. I do not see how the human rights abuses provide a safety net for Ryccia though, except of course, Ryccian officials are involved into these crimes, which I doubt of course." He added "...at least while I'm the incumbent speaker of this assembly..." in his head.
"And if there are officials involved, I think it's reasonable they should get persecuted for violating human rights or war crimes or whatever this would fall into, once we would discover the extent of Ryccian involvement. This would be just, for Valora and also for Ryccia. And also, in some way, for the international security altogether. I'll forward this to the committee for international law, which should create an expert report on it. Ms. Castañielo, I would ask you to leave the assembly hall now together with two of our ushers. The rest of the Ryccian delegation remains seated until the debate for the next point on the agenda has ended."

He waited for the ushers to come to his desk and asked them to cling to Ms. Castañielo until after she collected all her belongings from her office and she is in safety in another nation's hand. The ushers then went down and explained this situation to the young woman.
Hopefully she will listen to them and do how she was told. While the three were talking, he was making sure to securely send the report to Frost, where the committee would tackle this issue much more effectively than the assembly could.

After she left the hall, he continued with the debate they interrupted just a few minutes ago, keeping an eye on the Ryccian delegation. He might have given all speakers a little more time for their speeches than he normally would, precious time the young woman needed to find security. Normally he shouldn't be worried about this, Ryccia should be democratic and reasonable enough to not do harm to someone defenseless as her, but he always had mistrust against them. There's a feeling in his abdomen, if he lets the debate end too soon, this will end badly for the whistleblower.

After a good hour the debate got closed for today. The rest of the Ryccian delegation may leave the hall too. He hopes, everything went well and he didn't close this point of the agenda too early.
Signed
