Issue XXIX

What are you doing? Are you planning on some new major roleplay for our region? Are you active in some organisation, that you would like to see prosper? Or are you too busy with real life activities at the moment, but desperately in need of a quick update?
At least the latter thing I can provide you. Today's contents look as follows:

Short interview with the Speaker of the Lower Chamber, Dr. Jonathon Wallace
Source: Submission via Discord by Qaz#0717 | Written on 22 September 2020 | Nation: Qaweritoyu (@Qaweritoyu)

Interviewer: I am joined today by the Speaker of the Lower Chamber, Dr. Johnathon Wallace. Dr. Speaker, it's great to have you hear today.

Speaker: Thank you.

Interviewer: How are times now in the Lower Chamber?

Speaker: Ah, you know, it's busy, it's always busy, lots going on, long days, lots of business.

Interviewer: How has GID-20 pulled back on all that business?

Speaker: Well, as you know, we're free from it now, the Government are just trying to make sure now that it's not coming back. Even so, it's made everything very awkward until we just learn to deal with it somehow. We can't be sure when the borders reopen in two weeks whether it will re-enter the country or not so it's just a very careful time now, we have half the chamber's MPs sitting in Parliament and half joining us from home via webcam.

Interviewer: Sounds tough. Dr. Speaker, for anyone who may be unfamiliar with what the role of Speaker of the Lower Chamber is, can you explain to us what your job is, please?

Speaker: Certainly, my job is to be the referee of the Lower Chamber, making sure everyone elected to that chamber is given an equal opportunity to have their voice heard and participate in Parliament if they have indicated to me that they wish to or else that there is an opportunity, as there is in some sessions, to speak unplanned, I try and facilitate as many as the clock allows me to. The Speaker of either chamber has to be completely impartial, I can't favour one view over another, I have to be and try to be completely fair to every single person in there. I can't speak for former Speakers of the Lower Chamber, I certainly hope I can speak for my grandad and great-grandad who were also elected Speakers of this chamber, that the three of us interpreted the chamber as a place elected by the people, all MPs are there because the people voted for them in their constituencies, hence, they deserve their chance to speak in that chamber.

Interviewer: The word referee makes it sound like it's a shouting match.

Speaker: It often is.

Interviewer: Dr. Speaker, how is the Speaker selected?

Speaker: The Speaker is always an elected member of the Lower Chamber, elected by the other MPs of the chamber who do not stand for election. The candidate which gets the most votes becomes Speaker.

Interviewer: What happens if the elected Speaker leaves Parliament in a General Election?

Speaker: Well, it's highly unlikely that would happen as there is a Speaker Election shortly after every General Election and there is generally no business unless there is an emergency up to an election. Even if there is emergency business of the chamber, we have it done well in time for the election. In the event that it did happen, though, there would have to be an election, the previous MP elected Speaker has no right to sit in the Chair when they're not elected to the chamber.

Interviewer: How are Deputy Speakers selected?

Speaker: Deputy Speakers also must be elected MPs to the chamber and I select them, I usually try and select people from another Party, rather than other members of the Modern Marxist Party, which is my Party, because then it can hardly be seen as a fair Chair. Our other Parties at the moment are the Tax Nobody Party, the Incompetent Democratic Party and the Advanced Humanitarian League.

Interviewer: Have you a busy week this week?

Speaker: Ah, yeah, every week's busy. We mainly have Wealth Tax, Corporation Tax, Curs in VAT, Higher Pensions, Social Benefits and the Retirement Age on the agenda, we also have GID-20 monitoring there too, floating around in the background, you know, all the fun stuff going on in the Lower Chamber this week.

Interviewer: That's all we have time for. Thank you, Dr. Speaker.

Speaker: Thank you for having me.

Interviewer: Dr. Johnathon Wallace, Speaker of the Lower Chamber of the Qaz Parliament.

OOC: RP-Overview

The month of September 2020 was a bit more calm in our roleplay-sector one has to admit. Or maybe this is just what I felt like, because I was a little inactive, especially in the second half of the month. Real life and health comes first after all.
But this doesn't mean, nothing has happened. Let's shed a light onto those roleplayers, who especially kept our active roleplaying moving in the previous month!

Today we will start with the A1-0 canon, which has its two bigger roleplays - "The Legate's Tower" and "The Joint Inspection" - still ongoing. The Treecuu, known for being the "bad boys" in the universe, also announced to start diplomatic relations with other species. To tell you the absolute truth, I would question their trustworthiness, would you too?

In our main canon the foundation of another international organisation aimed towards the facilitation of trade and the implementation of freedom of movement has struck everyone. @Besern brought forth this idea, which has met - up until now - mostly positive responses. What he also struck everyone with, is his latest rp-idea together with @phoenixofthesun14 called "Sechssturm". One still has to wait anxiously where this all is going, but let me tell you, it's an exciting read!
Filled with excitement are also several figures from the nations of Sedunn and Ryccia, either because they are in a continuous civil war or because we are back in the past, where several nations decided on a historic document, regulating power around TSP's Mediterranean Sea.
Another thing, which needs regulation - as far as the Federal Republic of GI-Land is concerned about - are nuclear weapons. But, if you look at the discussion, this vote won't be unanimous. Now are the last few hours, maybe days, to make your voice count, if you haven't already and only if you are an observer or member of the WF.

If all of this is too exciting for you and your heart "can't even", I've got good news for you. @Qaweritoyu has offered quite a few interviews in September, which can be a light, sometimes funny read. You can find them in the sub-forum Treasure Island/Main Canon/Media. Also the naming convention for TSP's Southern Polar Circle shall be debated in the near future. If you have anything to contribute to this, you can do so here. If all of this is still not for you, because you think we lack a place to neutrally describe your country, culture or organisation, you founded with others a few days ago: Don't worry, because you simply forgot about our TSPedia, which will love to be the home of your articles on all the aforementioned things.
Helping hands, like I stressed last time already, are standing by your side on our TSP-RP-server!
