Approvals for Election Commissioner

Something like this:
Cabinet Elections - High Court appoints at least 2 EC's on the 1st of the month in which Cabinet Elections take place.
High Court Elections - Cabinet appoints at least 2 EC's on the 15th of the month before High Court Elections take place.
Special Cabinet Elections - A member of the High Court serves as EC.
Special High Court Elections - A member of the Cabinet serves as EC.

This. I don't like the half measures that get proposed most of the time where admins are expected to do x through y.

It's annoying that — since we're admins and we are automatically the EC — that we need to decide whether or not to run well ahead of an election. This will just make it more the case and further infringe on our rights to decide if we want to run.

If the Assembly wants power over the election commission, I'm all for it.

There can also be a list of people who do ECs in NS and are well known to be reliable and trustworthy in case admins suddenly change their mind about running or an EC goes AWOL due to whatever reasons.

I'm thinking of Eluvatar who also has helped TSP with some other stuff.

Being an administrator should def. not detract from a person wanting to run in elections.

It clarify, not wanting to run ... but detracts from a late entry if you're already the EC.

TSP has changed since we moved away from the old system. Admins were always the ones on the Election Commission. Todd usually being the Chair of said Commission. We also typically had 6 admins on the boards so moving that power over wasn't an issue. We know have 3 admins who have all been pretty active in politics which is a good thing. The more I think of it the more I believe moving away from the current system would be best.

I wouldn't support an established EC - the old one was run by Todd McCloud (one of the leads of OBT). It's difficult for us to find trustworthy established players to fill such seats.

I do, however, agree that we need a time where the new EC nomination should be announced by - instead of waiting until the day of to figure out who will be the EC.

Quote:Article 4 - Election Commission

1. Elections will be run by a member of the forum administration staff, acting as an election commissioner.
2. A designated Election Commissioner may be appointed if all members of the administration staff will be candidates in the given election, or if no administrator is able to be an Election Commissioner.
3. Any appointments for the Election Commission must be nominated one week prior to the start of general elections and approved by the Assembly.

I agree with Unibot, I would never support Todd having power as an EC in TSP.

I do think figuring out the EC beforehand is a good idea although it puts forum admins in a weird place in that they have to know whether they are running or not earlier.

Would second Unibot's thing but we should prolly have more discussion on it.

I didn't say we should appoint Todd EC. I was simply stating that Todd was an EC for several years.

I know Hile. I think you'd be in the that pool of people who have ECed for TSP. Eluvatar and you are really the only ones I know of who have been ECs.

If we are changing this article, how about we change clause 2 as well to clarify who is responsible for appointing the EC. That is one of the things which bugged me about this one. Right now, it just mentions they are appointed, but it could be appointed by anyone - it is unclear.

Edit: Get rid of the word MAY while you are at it. Too ambiguous...

I will point out that, out of the two times we have appointed an EC, only this time was the appointment made at the last minute. Usually we would have decided weeks in advance.
