I think the proposal is ridiculous and will put loads of potentially excellent candidates off of running in the first place because of all the hoops they now have to jump through.

Can you elaborate on why this is creating hoops for candidates to jump through? Isn't this proposal just keeping the existing law, but putting it in a different place?

Just to be clear, this is not a new law. What this proposal does is merely move a provision that is currently located in the Legislator Committee Act to the Elections Act. If you think this is a scenario where candidates would be subject to new and more stringent requirements, you should know that those requirements have been in force for as long as I can remember.
