Hello legislators! This thread will serve as the place for the information for all of the Chair's projects for the January 2021 and May 2021 terms. In addition to maintaining information about the projects in this post, I will regularly reply to this thread with updates on the projects in more detail.
If you have any questions or comments on any of these projects, please post in this thread.
Commission on Laws - report is currently being written
The purpose of this is to tidy up the laws. You may remember my many discretionary edits from last term, where I fixed many inconsistencies and errors in the laws. I did the best job I could, but the reality is that I can't catch everything. This commission would have a lot of eyes looking at the laws, catching things that I can't catch.
Additionally, there may be loopholes in the laws or inconsistencies between laws that discretionary edits can't fix. Even then, it's worthwhile to have those pointed out, so that someone can legislate them and fix them.
Besides the benefit to our laws and therefore our region, participants can benefit as well from getting more familiar with our laws.
The general plan is:
- Participants will sign up
- The Chair will assign participants some or all of the laws based on what they want to do
- Participants will review the laws and send the Chair any potential edits, other issues, or discussion topics
- The Chair will compile any discretionary edits into a discretionary edit package
- The Chair will release a report on all potential changes to the laws to be discussed by the Assembly
- The Assembly will discuss and pass the changes they want to pass

Feedback Surveys - undergoing revisions in between releases
These feedback surveys will allow anyone to send the Chair feedback anonymously. They will be published regularly throughout the term (likely monthly), so that people have a way to send feedback often. Additionally, I will address these points publicly to ensure that I am held accountable to the feedback.
This project is relatively simple:
- The Chair will release the form
- Legislators or other members of the public will provide feedback anonymously
- The Chair will publicly respond to the responses in a post

Assembly Info Thread Revamp - work in progress
The current thread links to some outdated info and doesn't contain all of the information that legislators may want easy access to (for example the legislator roster). Additionally, the individual threads are in the archives, meaning that the Chair can't edit them unless they're a moderator or admin. To avoid this, the new thread will have all of the information in one thread (so that individual threads won't get archived).
Additionally, as part of the project, a Chair guide and a drafting guide will be created. The primary purpose of the Chair guide is to be a resource for Chairs or Deputy Chairs who want help in doing Chair things. However, it can also serve as information for the public, if they are curious about what duties the Chair must or usually does.
The drafting guide is for any legislator who is drafting a proposal in the Assembly. It will include advice on the content and formatting of proposals. This will be helpful for newer legislators, and it will be easy for an experienced legislator to just link the guide rather than explain things to new legislators.
This will probably be my most time-consuming project, as I will be drafting two new guides and editing old ones. Throughout the process, I will be inviting legislators to provide feedback. These are the steps I plan to go through:
- Figure out what the formatting will be (if it is the same or different than the old on). I will be discussing this with legislators.
- Create the structure of the original post, including the order of the info threads and what other things to link
- Get Assembly input on existing info threads
- Edit and reformat existing threads and post them as posts in the thread
Note that at the same time the above is happening, I will be simultaneously working on the Chair guide and drafting guide. For more details on the process of those guides, click on the spoilers below.
I plan to include information about Chair things like opening votes, updating the legislator roster, and more. There will be information about optional things like discretionary edits as well.
Process:
- Draft it by myself
- Get input from Deputy Chairs and edit as necessary
- Get input from previous Chairs and edit as necessary
- Get input from all legislators and edit as necessary
- Post
As stated before, I will include info about the content and formatting of proposals.
The process is simple:
- Draft it by myself
- Get input from Deputy Chairs and edit as necessary
- Get input from all legislators and edit as necessary
- Post

Revamp of the Assembly Mentorship Program - in planning
This project is led by Tin.
The last rendition of the Assembly Mentorship Program pairs "students" with "mentors" who will guide them through the procedures of the Assembly and other government institutions, talking one-to-one and answering any questions the student may have. While the AMP is a good idea to introduce new legislators to the Assembly, in practice the execution of the project may not provide the answer we're looking for.
The mentors may not know how to guide their students resulting in confusion. The students may not ask the right questions which can lead to them not getting the big picture. When graduates try to get involved in the Assembly, mistakes happen and how will they get help?
To combat these problems in the program:
- Students will be advised to read the Assembly info thread when it's finished before asking questions to the mentors.
- We'll be introducing a new activity. Instead of just learning the theoretical parts, we should teach the practical parts too. Picking from the Ideas to Work On in the Assembly thread, the pairs will work together to draft an amendment and propose it to the assembly. Even if the proposal failed, the student got to get involved and propose a bill and thus graduate and get experience in working in the Assembly. This will also boost the number of amendments proposed.
- We'll be making a guide for anyone who wants to be a mentor!
- The new AMP thread will be rewritten to include the changes.

Gameside Outreach - in planning
This project is led by Moonfungus.
While the South Pacific might be a large region of 8000+ active nations, only a fraction of them are legislators and have a voice in how the region is run, resulting in a detachment between the gameside players and the Coalition government, and may give birth to potential conflicts between gameside players and forumside players. Not exactly ideal considering the majority of the new players will be greeted by the gameside first and the fourmside later, if they choose to get involved.
This project aims to increase the presence of the Assembly in gameside, while also looking to encourage gameside players to participate in the Assembly through various initiatives and activities. Besides driving up regional activity and closing the gap between our regional government and our citizens, it will also help us foster a tight-knit community in our region, as well as create a welcoming aura to any new players looking to get involved with our regional politics.
This plan is:
- Start posting weekly Assembly activity updates in the RMB.
- Post new dispatches/links which include Assembly resources through which potential gameside legislators can see and refer to.
- Extend the activities of the Assembly Mentorship Program to gameside as well.
