[OOC] NGOs! NGOs for everyone!

This is a bit of a new idea, we'll see if it takes off —

You know how in real life there's non-governmental organizations like Amnesty International or Doctors Without Borders? I thought it would be cool to have some organizations like that shared across the Pacifica canon. The idea is that these are non-player organizations that anybody can reference as impartial sources to build up their country details (e.g. "so-and-so rates Esfalsa highly in human rights" or "according to so-and-so, 2 million children are suffering from malaria in this country"). These organizations aren't associated with any particular country or player, so anyone's free to use them.

I'll get the list started with a couple I came up with. Anyone is free to add organizations of their own invention; just reply to this thread. Thread Rules
  1. These organizations are like shared resources, so play nice! Don't use them for something that doesn't fit their purpose, since that would mess up things for anyone else who used them in roleplay already.
  2. The consent rule still applies, so don't use these organizations to criticize other players' countries without their consent. The idea is that these are impartial organizations you can use to characterize your own country... if everyone used them to criticize each other, the 'impartial' part would be lost pretty quickly :P
  3. If you want to make a similar organization that you as a player personally control, feel free to do so, but please make a separate thread, so this one is just a list of resources any player can reference and doesn't get cluttered.

A couple of suggestions. Not entirely sure about the names:
  • Freedom of Information Watch (FIW) — a research and advocacy organization similar to Reporters Without Borders.
  • International Elvira Movement (IEM) — an IRP version of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. The IC name is supposed to honour a battlefield nurse or similar that founded a predecessor organisation after having saved numerous lives (regardless of affiliation) during a particularly battle somewhere in the latter half of 19th century.

Network of Pacific Entrepreneurs (NPE): organization that provides two functions:
  1. SERVICES: provides education, resources, networking, solutions or references for solutions, and helps advocate for business owners (especially geared towards new business owners and those in developing countries, but any can apply)
  2. ACCREDITATION: it's like being accredited by BBB - NPE can mediate customer disputes, inspect business practices and offer insight and possible improvements, and assign ratings, called the NPE Confidence Rating. It doesn't have the power to shut anyone down, but ratings affect the likelihood consumers would deal with them.
Note - A business doesn't have to be a member to get rated, but it must be one to receive services. A business must be rated to become a member, and the annual fees pay for NPE services in item #1 (exceptions/reductions can be made on a case-by-case basis).

Note 2 - Beyond assigning ratings to singular businesses, NPE can and does compile statistics on, for example, the average NPE Confidence Rating in xxxx country, the average NPE Confidence Rating per xxxx demographic (socioeconomic status, age, etc.), and so on.

Here are two suggestions of mine:
The Pacifican Rebuilding Initiative (PRI): A non-profit organization that seeks to rebuild and repair any buildings in areas of war, conflict and occupation.
Fighters For The Endangered (FFE): An organization that stops the hunting, trading, keeping and dismembering of any endangered species.

NGO's from me (will add more in future edits when I come up with them):
  • Azima Foundation: A non-profit fund - named after a Stoinian fairy that heals the sick - that helps paying the large costs of medication of rare diseases worldwide. Notable patrons are President Dr. Stella Blanc (United States of Izaakia) and King Andrei III Cuza (Kingdom of Stoinia).
Pacifica: MyriaSallodesia, Stoinia • A1-0: Stoinian Star Kingdom • Aurora: Kingdom of Threnebor
