The Alterran Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses 'sincere concern' over the buildup of nuclear arms, especially by its relatively close neighbor Techganet, and has urged cooperation in keeping the peace. However, rumor has it that the Alterran military establishment aims to launch its own nuclear arms program as soon as later this year, to mark the 20th anniversary of Alterran nuclear energy, as the first Alterran nuclear power plant opened in October of 2001.

After meeting with Vice-Prime Minister Barrett and Dr. Speaker Wallace, Prime Minister Phelps has announced that with effect from tomorrow, Monday 4 October 2021, Dr. Barrett will return to her role as Prime Minister, ending his short term as Prime Minister.

Alterran Minister of Defense Noah Walker testified before the Alterran Parliament earlier today, discussing nuclear arms and nuclear proliferation in the region. Walker spoke strongly in favor of arming Alterra with her own nuclear missiles and weapons, citing 'serious security holes that need to be filled not by foreign nuclear arms in Alterra, but by our own program'. Walker's testimony brought the nation closer to the possibility of a full Alterran military nuclear weapons program.

Izaakia to call back it’s continuous at sea deterrent in an attempt to encourage others to de-escalate. President Blanc said her position on Nuclear weapons is that they’re rather uncouth and that the threat indiscriminate attacks on civilians is not becoming of a modern nation. She went further to say that under her tenure the Izaakian armed forces will only ever engage in warfare in a targeted and precise manner in order to target military, strategic and governmental facilities alone.

Reassuring supporters of the nuclear deterrent she said that the missile defence system and early warning system of Izaakia is highly capable and that the network of nuclear shelters is to be upgraded and expanded. However, it is the aim of the government to prevent attacks through primarily through diplomatic means and then military strikes.

King and Leader Gianluca IV has expressed concern over the announcements of WASP, which shall also include the Federal Republic of Besern or the Peocracy of Huawan e.g..
"It is fairly disappointing, that assumed partners seem to path the way for aggressors to expand their sphere of influence."
Additionally to this statement, he has built up pressure onto the other partners of GI-Land like the Frost Empire, Anserisa and Sedunn to finalise talks on an own security and defense organisation. "We lose the trust and support of other nations in our region, if we don't show a sign of strength now. I urge for our other partners to finalise the talks on a security organisation, including clauses that at the very least stop nuclear proliferation."

In a press briefing at Presidential House this afternoon, presidential spokesman Lawnchin Gielenad stated that Techganet will move to slash the production rate of its newly developed ICBM by half the amount initially planned for October, elaborating that the empire concurs with international sentiments that proliferation of nuclear weapons should be limited, though she further reiterated that Techganet reserves the right to retain its nuclear arms.

President Blanc is in a serious condition being prepped for surgery after being shot twice earlier today outside parliament. The three assailants were shot dead at the scene, however an as yet un-named police officer has also perished.

With tensions running high and opposition towards nuclear proliferation in the region growing internally, Alterran President Thomas Anderson signed Presidential Directive 001, the first directive signed during his term as President, temporarily barring any and all nuclear arms development from occurring within the sovereign territory of the Commonwealth of Alterra. President Anderson and numerous key MPs have voiced their support for de-escalation and has offered to host nations in Alterra City to de-escalate rising tensions.

A Supreme Court verdict has overruled President Thomas Anderson's Presidential Directive 001, effectively nullifying it after the Court deemed the directive unconstitutional. President Anderson chose to rest the case and refused to oppose the Court verdict.
