The issue for me came from the fact that some people (usually whole nations, in fact) use '.' and ',' the other way around (so 1.000 is 'a thousand' and 1,5 is 'one point five'). I did consider that you were writing everything to three decimal points, but I just couldn't be sure!(05-04-2016, 03:35 AM)Hammerstar Wrote: 850.000 billion is 850 trillion uno. Of course it took me long enough just to be sure what the right definition of a billion is these days. It user to mean 'a million million' in the UK and a trillion meant 'a million million million', which makes more sense (as in one lot of six zeros, two lots of six zeroes, etc.) and is also more linguistically efficient (i.e. you get to much higher numbers with fewer new terms introduced), but the American meaning is the one which has found global acceptance so we've changed to it as well. No point fighting that battle when it's easier just to go with the majority. Where I'm from, we use '.' and ',' the other way around, so I have to be extra careful
The use of "billion" is also a trap for us. In Swedish we have "miljon" (10^6), then "miljard" (10^9), and then "biljon" (10^12 = a million million, as in BrE). What ever you decide for your nation, you can always change it later, if you find that it doesn't work for you.
Thanks (I thought you were Swedish, but didn't know. I find myself living in guessland here, lol).

This is a surprising grave dig.

I believe it's time to create a new force that oversees the logic in the region? One that's not too.....authoritarian :p
