Replacing a Vice Delegate
#51

Surely in the case of replacement, it would make sense to just allow a swift approval of a Vice-Delegate rather than wasting time with an approval process that doesn't seem to add anything?

If not for an apathetic Assembly, the approval process adds legitimacy to an potential delegate.

I can see the logic to that, if the Assembly does a decent job in vetting the candidate.

I think the problem here is that since we're such a small community, most people know each other, thereby making "vetting" a bit redundant and/or personal.

Whereas, if a newer person is nominated, I think there would be more vetting taking place.

Well I suppose it is incumbent on us, to make sure that we hold all candidates to account as best we can, regardless of how new or old they are. Maybe that is why getting fresh people is always a good idea, means that there are no special favours Wink

Indeed, but, with people comin' and goin' so often, ya sometimes ya think ya know a person, but then ya hear 'bout somethin' they said or did while ya weren't 'round.

Hey guys, I'm "bumping" this a head of the election. I used the last draft sent by Bels with minor adjustments -- I lowered the percent needed for confirmation from 75% to 50%+1, since theoretically, that's how much a vice delegate could get elected with.

Quote:Article 5
Section 6 – Line of Succession

1. In the event that the Delegate is removed from office, resigns from office, or is banned from the World Assembly, the Vice Delegate shall immediately assume the office of the Delegate.
2. In the event that the office of the Vice Delegate is vacant, the Delegate shall nominate a replacement, who must be confirmed with a 50%+1 majority vote by the Assembly.
3. Until such time as a replacement Vice Delegate is confirmed the highest ranking member of the CSS line of succession shall serve as Acting Vice Delegate.
4. In the event that the offices of the Delegate and Vice Delegate are vacant at the same time then the highest ranking member of the CSS line of succession shall assume the office of Delegate and the next ranking member the office of Vice Delegate.

I motion to vote on this. Can I get a second?
