IC- FiHami Rising
#31

Date: November 30th, 2010
Time: 16:00
Location: Port Davis

The sounds of gunshots echoed through the streets.

Civilians had been evacuated since the first siege, so no one worried about hitting innocent bystanders.

It was kill or be killed.

"Kapone!  We need reinforcement on Bird and 56!"  Someone shouted at the distance.  Kapone, a short 27-year-old slightly overweight male, stood up and signalled a small group to follow him.  When they arrived, they began firing on the Antarch who fired at them.

"We are losing Kayla and 58!"  Kapone's radio buzzed.  Just a few seconds later, "We lost the docks!"

This battle is not going well.

After a few more calls, Kapone radioed the Hot Flames commander.

"We need to retreat the Antarch are overwhelming our armies!"  He shouted.

"Order your men to retreat to the base.  We are going to flee"  The commander responded.  Kapone sent the orders, and the troops began making their escape.

"We just lost Huah-Huah, sir."  A small, slender woman walks in, dropping some papers on Benjamin's desk.  Kyle Owens has been secured as well, Lucy and Harry have begun transporting him to the base.

"Ok, what time is their arrival?"  Owens asked, glancing at the 8-year-old who glared at him intensely behind the bars separating the 2 rooms, her eyes aflame with the same fear and hatred that warranted the particular arrangement while Eti was working on paperwork things.  Benjamin shuddered when he remembered his first encounter with the child that left a scar from his right shoulder to his left hip.

"2 hours, sir."

"Ok."  Benjamin nodded at the woman, who walked away.  "Eti, I will need you to take Finix somewhere, don't let her back into the base until I radio for you.  Take her to the beach or something.  You are excused from paperwork during this time."

Eti nodded, putting down her papers and carefully opening the door to the other room.  Despite precautions, Finix bolted, knocking Eti aside and lunging straight for Benjamin.  He bit his tongue when the child raked her fingernails across his face repeatedly, until Eti could pick the child up and quickly walked away.

"Hello, brother of mine."

"Benny..."

"Allow me to begin. 15 years ago, you joined the Antarch army, knowing fully what the army was doing. Over the years, you have abused and enslaved many innocent people. The actions escalated further and further. You became the top commander of the Antarch Armed Forces. You were tasked with village raiding 5 years ago, when you led an army to slaughter many innocent people who had no defense."

"Benny, I-"

"Suddenly, after that, you became the worst soldier. You gained ridicule amongst your peers. You no longer fought even though you were sent to. You were accused of betraying your nation and were about to be put to death."

"Look, I've done horrible things. Why would you send people to save me like you did? Why did you bring me here?"

"You are infamous for what you've done. But, I won't let my older brother die without a chance to clear his conscience."

"There's nothing I can do to make up for it. I helped in the way I could afterwards, but that will never be enough."

"I understand." Benjamin laid his hand gently on Kyle's shoulder after a short pause.

"Isn't there a way I can maybe change my identity and move to another country? Repent by being a quiet, unassuming farmer supporting myself by toiling long hours under the sun?"

"No foreign country would allow you, knowing who you are."

"Then change my identity here and let me live in the most isolated corner of this island!"

"We are working on that."

Kyle stared, shocked.

"You will be Aiden Thomas. A 39 year old farmer with brown hair and green eyes." Benjamin handed a file to Kyle. "Died trying to escape the Port Davis invasion. His wife was Jessica Alonso Thomas. He has an infant child named Kennedy Jessie Thomas, female. You will be married to someone who will resemble Jessica, and who will share the same briefing you recieved. That is, if you accept."

Kyle felt his eyes water.

"You would be willing to do this for me?"

"Of course, Kyle."

"Thank you... so much!"

"As for your old identity, Aiden... We will say that you attempted to enter Kotai and were recognized and swiftly killed."

"Sounds good, my brother."

"Good. Now, Lily will go ahead and make the cosmetic changes and introduce you to your wife."

The Solitary Education Building on the private Finixi compounds were for children and adults who were deemed "too dangerous" to be allowed to be educated with those in Kotai Hani.  So far, there were three students enrolled: Eight-year-old Finix who was also known as "the Sami Spirit" who used to attack anyone with light-colored skin, nineteen-year-old Kenzie Fusai who had a social anxiety issue, and forty-year-old Aiden Thomas who was there for "undisclosed reasons."  Finix and Aiden had to keep separated because of Aiden's pale skin, which sent Finix into a blind rage that only being forcibly removed could calm her down.  Kenzie exhibited severe social anxiety symptoms around Aiden, but seemed to get along with Finix well enough.  Eti Nanakupe taught the girls, Benjamin taught Aiden.

"Eti, why did Fi'onixia want to unite everyone?"

"Because she believed in hani, Finix."  Eti answered.  She was very impressed with how far the child had come since November, but there was still a lot of work to be done.

"What's hani?"  Finix asked.

"Hani is like the bricks making a wall.  Each brick is unique, but when it is put with other bricks, they make a very strong wall that nothing can knock down."

"But walls are easily knocked down."

"Let me try a better example.  It's like when you are with your family around a big bonfire.  Everyone is together.  They are all getting along, they are smiling, best friends.  They are in hani."

"But isn't it better to be alone?  That way no one can hurt you?"

"People might hurt you every now and then, but it is better to forgive them than choose solitude and hatred.  Because when big challenges come, it is better to face it like a wall rather than a single brick."

"I see."  Finix said, retreating into her mind.  "Hani."

"Come on!  Antarchi aren't going to stay quiet forever!  MOVE IT!"  A short lady shouted at the top of her lungs.  Hundreds of men and women ran around the room with large backpacks on their backs.  As soon as they finished their laps, they threw down the bags and grabbed their guns.  They began shooting at the targets across the room quickly.

"I'm not seeing enough hustle!"  She shouted.

When we begin retaliating again, I will make sure that we are in a good position to win.

It had been a few years since the Finixi rebels had rescued her from the orphanage.  Thanks to the efforts put in by Eti, Anna Kionei, and Elsafina Hastofi, Finix had learned so much about who she was.  After she was no longer considered a danger to others, she decided to help Eti out in the medic's room until her 14th birthday.

Just three more years.

"Finix, could you run these over to the Kalintashi Hani, there's been a few reports of injuries there, it's not far from here."  Eti asked, handing Finix a bundle of supplies.  "Don't get lost, don't attack anyone.  Just deliver the supplies and come back here."

"Yes, Eti."  Finix smiled, bursting through the door excitedly.  She ran into Benjamin, who dropped a few papers on the ground.

"Sorry, sir."  Finix picked up the papers and handed them back, then resumed her mission.

After about an hour of running in the direction Eti pointed out, Finix saw a few buildings surrounded by a short wall by the sea.  Without paying attention, she took a step forward, jumping when she suddenly heard a yelp.

"OW!  Dude, what is wrong with you?"  The young boy she had stepped on snarled.  "You're lucky I don't have my harpoon on me!"

"Oh sorry.  I am just on my way to the Kalintashi Hani."  Finix replied, helping the tall, lanky boy up.

"Just across the wall."  He said.  "I'll walk you the rest of the way.  There are a lot of traps, don't want an ugly cootie-filled girl to accidentally set one off."

"No, that's alright.  I'm fine on my-"  The young boy pulled Finix just before she stepped on a claw trap, laughing.

"Just follow me."  The boy said, pulling Finix along in silence, until they reached the gate.

"Just beyond there, a lady named Hati' will take those.  red building."

"Ok... Thanks.  What's your name?"  Finix asked.

"Come back here and I'll tell you."  The boy responded, holding a smirk on his face.

Finix ran to the house and dropped off the supplies to the woman, who quickly sent her back out.  When she made it to the wall, the same young boy was there, smiling.

"The name's Sikupa of the Krasat tribe.  I am 12 years old, my birthday is June 11th, and I enjoy fishing.  I will join the Hani resistance as a soldier when I turn 15 so that I leave when my little brother is going to school so my mother doesn't have to worry about him."  Sikupa said.  "Your turn."

"I'm Finix.  I'm 11, I'm going to join the Hani army the second I turn 14."

"Hmm when's your birthday?"  Sikupa asked.

"Today, actually."

"Tribe?  Family?"

"Uh, Fi'Shi, supposedly.  I don't really have a family."

"You have a family, they're just dead."  Sikupa sighed.  "Come on, Finix of Fi'Shi tribe.  Let me guide you out of here."

Sikupa grabbed Finix' hand and dragged her out until the edge of the forest.  When they stopped, Sikupa grabbed his satchel and pulled out a weird stick.

"This is a totem.  It was given to us by Ha'Finix to remind us that we will overcome everything.  We'll see each other again in 3 years, I guess."  Sikupa put the totem in Finix' hand and walked away.  "Do me a favor, don't let your clumsiness kill you before I can show you that I'll be the better soldier."

"Well, uh... don't... fall on your harpoon?"  Finix scrambled for a retort in her brain.

"You're cute when you're defeated.  I look forward to seeing that face more."  Sikupa disappeared back towards the village, and Finix made her way back to the compound.

I'll show HIM!

Back at the compound, Eti was searching through her papers.  When Finix walked up, Eti turned around.

"Hello Finix, things went well?  Your time with Anna will start soon.  You can go play if you'd like, or sit tight here."

"Yes, Eti."

"Listen up, recruits!  My name is Commander Taylor Ris, this is your lieutenant Toa'a Kaio.  You will respond to both of us with utmost respect!  You were placed in our infantry for your impressive skills in the initial exam.  Now, role call.  Aineta?"

"Present."  A relatively muscular woman barked.

"Devons?"  Taylor called.  A young boy raised his hand.

"Fi'Shi?"  Taylor glared right at Finix, who meekly raised her hand.

"Hastofi?"  Several people raised their hands, then put them down.

"Krasat'shi?"  A tall, muscular, lanky boy raised his hand.

"Kuri?"  A relatively tall woman raised her hand confidently.

"Good.  You all will begin training now.  Now, MARCH!  3 kilometers!"  Taylor barked.  The entire squad began running at once.

It had been almost 2 years since Finix had joined the rebellion as a soldier.  She was now 15, not much taller, a lot meatier, and one of the elites.  She was most well-known for her stealth in battle, which had several times, been the determining factor between victory and defeat.

Even as an elite soldier, however, there was no escape from messenger missions.  She and the boy, Sikupa, had been in charge of delivering a few messages on letter to the frontlines in Port Davis, where the Rainbow Feather squad was engaged.  The contents of the letters weren't even critical, just asking the standing general about sending medical supplies over to Shaw.  A special squad had been called to liberate the Thompson camp, which held several members of Rainbow Feather.  Finix and Sikupa were to head straight to the rendezvouz point by the next evening.

The cry of a falcon snapped Finix from her thoughts.  All of the sudden, a massive bird had dived and crashed right into Finix.  Sikupa was already grabbing a stick to fight it off.

Oh I'm on fire...

In the next few seconds, Finix was struggling to stand upright due to the strong river current.  Sikupa dragged her out of the water just before Finix thought she was going to drown.  Her left shoulder sent a throbbing, burning sensation.  She felt blood trickle from several scratches from the fire falcon's giant talons.  Some of her hair had singed off.

"You ok, Ha'Coron'?"  Sikupa asked,  helping Finix to her feet.

"What are you on about?  Of course I'm ok let's just get to the point already."

"You know what that was, right?"

"Stupid bird mistook my hair for it's nest."  Finix rolled her eyes and started walking again.

"You dumb savage that was Ha'Finix!  How do you not know this?  Didn't they teach you this in your fancy Kotai school thing?"  Sikupa walked at Finix' pace next to her, the look of confusion very clear on his face

"I do remember something about it."

"Well, what are you going to do?"

"Absolutely nothing.  This means absolutely nothing to us at the moment.  I'm only 15.  Hani isn't even won yet."

"The knowledge that Ha'Finix appointed the Ha'Coron' would be a very important morale booster, and hope for those who lost hope that Hani would ever be free again."  Sikupa elaborated.

"Well, tell Benjamin and Eti about this then, see if they care.  I doubt they will, Ben's Antarchi and Eti seems to think she is my mother and would much less care that I was anointed and would freak out at whatever I look like."

They approached the point in the middle of the night.  The pair had arrived a bit earlier than scheduled.  The camp quickly woke up, asked about the burns on one of the people who entered camp, and bowed, until it was clear that the girl who entered the camp was uncomfortable with such reverence.  In silence, they prepared their weapons, then charged for the camp.  It was very obvious that the soldiers had stopped following the commander of the squad and started following the girl.  Even the commander himself fell behind and followed.

Silently, the girl gave the command to split up in different directions, and shoot to kill.  About 2 hours later, the camp surrounded those who had been liberated.  However, the situation deteriorated as the commander of the Rainbow Feather, Taylor Ris, was shot in a misfire.  Finix took a bullet in her bad shoulder that was meant for one of the Rainbow Feather soldiers.  Despite the initial surprise attack, the Rainbow Feather and Elite squads overtook the Antarchi squad, taking a decisive victory on the Finixi side.

"May Ha'Finix give Taylor rest as she takes her place as a feather in the sky."  Finix breaks the cold silence, walking over to where the corpse of the great warrior sat.  She sighed, laying a hand on her forehead.

Am I even doing this right?

Finix grabbed some dirt from the ground, scattering it over the corpse.

"Let's go back now.  Base has a lot to hear about the liberation and the death of Taylor Ris."

The squad begins following the girl back to base like a pack of wolves following the alpha obediently.

Most of the injuries weren't worrisome, a few scratches, bullet wounds with clear exit holes that didn't really hit anything major.  The death of Taylor Ris was a sad event to everyone, but the rise of a new hope in the divinely appointed Ha'Coron' seemed to lift everyone's spirits.

Of course, with the appointment, the high priestess had to be brought in to examine the girl.  Of course, the high priestess would arrive now, rather than the next week like agreed upon.  This wouldn't have been an issue, except that Eti had just taken the girl in to surgery in order to remove the bullet from her shoulder.

The high priestess was clearly annoyed, and just sat around shooting snide comments about how busy she was as the hours progressed.

"If I don't see the appointed chief by the end of today I will not approve of her appointment."  The high priestess said in the morning the following day.

"Ha'ha'une, I understand that you have other priorities, but I promise you will be able to talk to the girl soon."  Eti sighed, rolling her eyes.

"Is she awake now?  I am requested elsewhere."

"Well, yes, but-"

"Good."  The high priestess smiled, standing up.  She quickly walked into the room where Finix was, who merely glared back.

"Leave this place, serpent of darkness!"  Finix snarled.  The high priestess stood back, gasping slightly, then regained her composure.

"This is nothing but a malnourished child."

"You conspire with the enemy for nothing but fame and fortune just like your ancestors!"  Finix attempted to attack, only to be held down by restraints.

"Ha'ha'une, I recommend leaving."  Eti calmly stated.

This girl must have been appointed by Ha'Finix, that's the only way she would know this... the High Priestess thought.

"I... cannot go against my conscience.  This girl was truly appointed.  Good day."  The high priestess walked away, visibly shaking.  Eti stared at the door that the high priestess just walked out from.

"That stupid lady is a snake.  Obviously."  Finix huffed, relaxing once again.

"Ben, we lost the strategic points again.  This 'try and choke them' strategy obviously isn't working."  Finix poked a little bit at the bowl of grain and fish.  She faced Benjamin, and Eti sat right next to her.

"And what do you suppose we should do?"  Benjamin asked, taking a large bite from his own bowl.

"We need to regroup and charge straight for the capital."  Finix stated in a serious matter.  Benjamin choked on his food briefly, setting his fork down.

"Finix, do you realize how much of a suicide mission that is?"

"How many years have you tried your way?"

"Finix, we do this way because there is no other feasible way."

"Look.  If your way were to succeed, we would have many innocent Antarchi lives lost as well and our actual enemy won't be affected.  You better believe that Jason would take all the supplies from his people."  Finix took a small bite from her bowl then pushed it away.  "With my way, we go straight to the source.  We storm the capital, try to spare as many innocent lives as possible, make it to the palace, and publicly execute Jason.  Then we vote that you get elected, everyone seems to like you... Or Eti, or maybe... whoever decides to run."

"Fi, you're already Ha'Coron'.  You would have unanimous votes from all adherents to Finixi."  Eti chuckled, pushing Finix' bowl back to her.  "Eat more."

"Ugh, fine."  Finix took another small bite from her food.  "But that doesn't matter.  You talked about how the world runs its governments.  Why can't my thing just be ceremonial?  Or I could at very most deal with foreign affair aspects?"

"You could, but the people would like your guidance at least for the first several years that Hani is re-established."

"I'm literally 15.  I know nothing!"

"Finix, you would have us to help, don't worry."  Benjamin smiled.  "We'll give it until June.  If we still haven't succeeded in forcing landlock, then we will do what you said.  Deal?"

"Deal."

"Your majesty, we have trouble."  The high priestess bowed to the ground.  "The Finixi have declared their new leader.  The young Ha'Coron' seemed to know everything about me."

"It's a coincidence.  Your little 'phoniox' doesn't exist."

"You say that, but I talk to Ha'Finix all the time.  My spirit is uneasy.  Ha'Finix says that we have less than a year."

"You are only here to control the Finixi under my rule, NOT to provide spiritual guidance to me.  Understood, Shi'Huah?"

"Yes, your excellency."

"Good.  You already gave the word, so I want you to tell your Fonioxians that the girl was appointed to die a brutal death."

Emperor Jason Cormic's June 2018 Adress

It has been close to 10 years since the Fonioxians have decided that their living conditions weren't proper enough to suit them.  An entire decade spent fighting the hand that feeds them.  We have wasted millions of Dineri repairing the damage they cause, maintaining the brave men who defend our glorious Antarch nation, and more.

They have been beating a dead horse for years.  They do not realize that if we wanted to, we could wipe them out in a day.  We don't wipe them out because we are human too.  We wish for peace between our people.

And, to the Fonioxians' new leader: You have no idea what your so-called "trusted allies" are doing.  You cannot see that they are the ones who are causing problems.  Your hatred to the Antarch is unfounded and childish.  Your "rule" is not recognized anywhere where people have common sense.  If you continue to try to overthrow us, we will make you all suffer.  Do I make myself clear?

Ha'Coron' Finix Fi'Shi's First Address, June 2018

My siblings, thank you for having the faith in me to lead us to victory against our oppressors.  It has been an honor to fight alongside you all these past several years.  I pray that I will continue to fight alongside each and everyone of you until I breathe my last.

The Antarchi have oppressed us for over a century, yet they claim that they provided for us kindly.  For over a century, we had to serve Ha'Finix in silence.  We had to continue our traditions underground because of the Antarchi.  Yet they claim that we are free.

I was appointed by Ha'Finix to guide us all into a new era, become a Fi'Hami- wait that's not right... Sorry, it's Fi'Hani.  My apologies.  We will become a new Fi'Hani under the wings of liberty and fires of justice.  The old, oppressive empire will fall by January or we all die trying.  We will not let another Antarchi year pass us by.

To Jason Cormic, I wish all the worst for you, and your horde of snakes.  I pray justice will be served to you slowly and painfully.  I pray that I would be the one to serve your slow and painful piece of justice pie.

"I, Finix, as the appointed Ha'Coron' over our valiant people, declare that, all armies, squads, militias, and any other special unit are united once again.  We are changing strategies, my siblings.  Choking out the oppressors has failed and we must realize this.  The only solution now is to head straight to the source.  Over these next few days, we will be making a slow march straight for the capital.  There will be no tolerance to anyone who opposes us."

People shifted uncomfortably in their spots, as if expecting total disaster to result.

"I have designated 3 different squads, named after the 3 elite squads.  Ones are Rainbow Feather, led by Toa'a Kaio, will take a stealth mission in order to surround Cancerton as best as you can.  Twos are Hot Flames, led by Finixi Hastofi, will make a slow flank towards the East of Cancerton.  Threes are Solar Unity, lead by Kilaui Kuri, will flank the West.  Those who weren't designated a number are going to be part of an elite-elite squad called Fiery Unity, under my command.  I want each and every single person to ONLY engage with the Antarchi army.  Don't engage civilians, unless they engage you first."

Finix dipped her head slightly and then made her way to the back, sitting down and watching every person move to their spots.  Her own appointed squad made her way to her.  Sikupa, who was the top-class trap-detector.  Eti, who's medical knowledge would come in handy.  Sarah Hastofi, who was the top-class sniper.  And finally, Ne'Onai, who was an all-around good fighter.

"You just want me everywhere with you, huh."  Sikupa smirked playfully.

"Shut up Sikupa."  Finix rolled her eyes.  "You guys listen up.  For the first part, we will be waiting here until we hear that Hot Flames and Solar Unity have gotten into position and are given the order to begin their siege.  That is when we will mobilize and go around to the ill-defended North side of Cancerton."

"With all due respect, there's a good reason why defense is weak on the north side."  Sarah spoke up.

"Yes.  Antarchi name Mount Hesteria, Finixi name Ri-Ha'Finix.  There are only a few of us, and we all have scored top marks on agility.  I do not worry about climbing the mountain."

"Finix, while that may be true, climbing the volcano is extremely dangerous.  If Ha'Finix decides to erupt from it's home?"  Sikupa asked.

"I have faith that we won't have trouple with the mountain."  Finix stated.  "In the meantime while we wait for all units to be in position, I would like each of us to train as hard as we can.  In order to prepare.  Hopefully we are able to mobilize as early as tomorrow, though I suspect Antarchi will give us trouble along the way.  We may be here a while."

"This is Commander Hastofi of the Hot Flames, reporting that we are in position."

"Roger, Hastofi.  The Rainbow Feathers have Cancerton surrounded.  Awaiting Solar Unity and Fiery Unity to confirm position."

"Thank you Hastofi and Kaio.  This is Fi'Shi confirming that Fiery Unity is in position.  Awaiting Solar Unity."

"This is Kuri of the Solar Unity, we are still a couple hours out from point.  We were engaged by an Antarchi militia.  No casualties to be reported on our side."

"Thank you Kuri, take your time.  We strike at 23:55."

Time: 23:50

The moons Maxima and Minima shined bright in the dark night sky, illuminating the path for the Finixi fighter squads.  The Hot Flames and Solar Unity squads stood at their ready as the city of Cancerton glowed almost like a third moon.  Many people were out celebrating the New Years' 2019, oblivious to the siege that was about to commence.

5 minutes later, Finix threw a finger in the air, and the Hot Flames squad began storming the city.  Very soon after, the Solar Unity squad marched in on the opposite side.  The celebrations in the city came to a halt as the clocks all ticked closer to midnight.

"Cover me."  Was the only word uttered from Finix' mouth, and she began making her way down the cliff face and into the city.  Her squad moved behind her, keeping up with the swift, lithe movements their leader made.

Not soon after, the gunshots were heard.

23:58

Finix broke into a sprint when she hit the main road to the palace, leaving her squad behind.  She was quickly tackled by a soldier, who met his unfortunate fate just as quickly.

23:59

The palace stood, a monument to the Antarchi hands who built this palace many, many years ago.  The palace was guarded on all sides with no sign of being able to break in an entry.

With a quick mental calculation, Finix decided to take the gun from the soldier she had killed.  She sniped the guards down, then bolted for the palace entrance.  When she made it inside, she found herself staring at the barrel of a gun, held by the emperor himself.

"So you decided to pay me a visit, huh."  Jason said.  "Disposed of all my guards too, somehow.  A truly gifted kid.  It's a shame that your life had to be so short."

"You were expecting us."  Finix hid the fear she felt with a face of stone.  In her mind, she was calculating actions she could take.

"Of course.  It was fairly obvious when you withdrew all your people in November.  Gave us time to plan how to welcome you."  The Emperor smirked, deciding to change the topic.  "You speak Austral very well, who taught you?"

"Ok, boomer."  Finix suddenly knocked the gun out of the Emperor's hand, pinning him to the ground.  Jason struggled against Finix' small frame.  Finix drew her knife from her pocket with her free hand, bringing it to the neck of the soon-to-be-ex-Emperor.  "Answer me now.  Is your family in this palace?"

"I will never answer you!  PIG!"  Jason shouted, trying to shake off the girl and reach for his gun.

"That is not the way to answer your leader.  Funny, I was considering sparing yours and your family's life."  Finix smirked, lodging her knife into Jason's tiring body.

Jason shouted obscenities at the girl, watching her stand up and pick up his gun in horror.  Jason could feel his life ebbing away slowly as the pain in his abdomen infiltrated his senses.

"Hm, I should do to you what you have done to my family.  I still remember how my mother and grandmother died, at the hands of your men."  Finix shakes her head, aiming the gun for Jason.  "It was a very, very cruel way to die.

Finixi Hastofi was an older woman, who had known nothing but battle.  Since the new year began, Finixi's squad had been engaging countless Antarchi soldiers and weaponized civilians.  This was normal to Finixi, however.

Another year, another battle.

Suddenly, Antarchi soldiers began scattering.  Finixi looked up from finishing one soldier off, seeing the reason for the scattering.  The palace was burning.  Scared citizens with children stepped outside to witness the bloodbath and the burning palace.

Streets appeared quiet for an eternity.  People held their breath as a lone figure, outlined by the fire, began walking down the streets.

Suddenly, waves of hysterical celebration made their way to the edges of Cancerton.  The lonely figure assumed a clearer shape of a small female, her braided hair waving side to side with each slow step she took.

The Finixi armies threw down their weapons and cheered loudly, hugging everyone and anyone who also celebrated.  Antarchi civilians rejoiced, offering the Finixi soldiers their drinks.

There is much work to be done, now that FiHami is ours.

"Good day, am I communicating with the head of state of FiHami?" The man, a relatively tall, pudgey man spoke into the telephone. He heard a woman's voice over the telephone talking to what sounded like a man, but the words were unintelligible.

"Kirifi! Speaking with correct person." The woman's voice finally relayed over the line.

"Good." The man relaxed a little in his chair. "I am the Rainbow Islands Ambassador from the Empire of Antarcha, James Cornelius. I am hoping to communicate with you regarding the terrorist situation."

"James Cornelius." The woman on the other end of the line repeated back. "You can call me Finix. Please repeat what you just said?"

"I wish to discuss the terrorist threat in FiHami."

"Oh. understood." Finix said. "They are your people. Antarchi."

"As per the Empress' words, they are no more 'our people' than a rock may be considered a plant. But, they use our name and we wish to preserve the Empire's image as a beacon of philosophy and education, not as a terrorist organization." James reached for a book off his bookshelf and flipped through it, searching for anything related to the FiHamian people.

"Honourable Cornelius, we understand the wish to preserve your Empire's dignity. But what can the Antarcha do to help us?"

"Well, we could set up a trade system between our two countries. We supply you with armaments, and we establish an academic flow between our two countries. With education reform in your country, your citizens could be free to study on Antarchan soil, and Antarchan citizens free to study in FiHami. With the flow of talent, FiHami could see a sudden jump in prosperity, once the terrorists are dealt with."

"I do not see how this is an equal trade." Finix replied to the ambassador's proposal. "Antarcha recieves nothing?"

"The Empire wishes to promote our agenda abroad." Cornelius replied. "That is, to see Pacifica in its entirety as one nation united in the pursuit of making Pacifica a fount of knowledge to the universe. If we were to make first contact with an alien species as we are now, they may laugh at us as primitive beings. Plus, our international image is preserved."

"This still doesn't sound like a very fair trade. We would also be willing to send agricultural products from FiHami to Antarcha. I understand that even in the summertime, it is difficult to raise crops?"

"Because of our proximity to the Antarctic circle, it does make growing food impossible. Our temperatures are hardly above freezing, even though we recieve over 22 hours of sunlight a day in Aesthwinter, and our southern territories are bathed in constant sunlight. Harsh temperatures make raising animals nearly impossible as well. We rely heavily on trade with former colonies."

"Very interesting..." Finix seemed to remain quiet for a few minutes. "I would like to discuss further with you, in person. Would you be willing to meet in Ha'Hani for a few hours and discuss?"

"I will have to check with the minister first." Cornelius put the book he held on the table. "I appreciate your time, Finix."

"Thank you for your time." Finix hung up.

I'll have to call the minister. And attempt to research a little more on the country.

"The representative from Antarcha has arrived?"  Finix quickly asked her secret minister-in-training Safia Kokostali.  Safia nodded, handing the Ha'Coron' a packet of papers.

"Ambassador James Cornelius is here, ki Ha'Coron'."  Safia brought her hand up to her chest and bowed slightly.

"No need for formalities, please.  Follow me, and we shall greet the Antarchan ambassador together."  Finix stated, looking over to the newly-arrived ship near the partially-reconstructed boardwalk.  The ship was a pristine white, the hull looked sturdy yet elegant.  Across the side, the words "Annette's Pride" were printed boldly.

Finix and Safia made their way from the restaurant cafe they waited patiently at to the boardwalk.  A quick 15-minute walk later, they arrived to greet a relatively tall man with curly black locks and flushed pale skin.  The man sweat profusely in the professional suit and tie look he insisted on wearing.

"Greetings, sir.  I assume you are ambassador James of Antarcha?"  Finix began, tilting her head to the left side.

"The ambassador you look for is still inside.  I am the Austral-Rainbow Islander interpreter chosen for this task.  Though your spoken Austral seems good enough to question whether the Chief will need my services."  The man spoke.  "The name's Austin Snowfjord."

"Pleased to meet you."  Finix stretched her hand out briefly.

"Any word on when the Chief will arrive, young girl?"  Austin asked.

"I am her."  Finix rolled her eyes at Austin's shock.

"Oh.  Uh, let me get James then, don't want to keep you waiting."  Austin composed himself and went back into the boat.  A few minutes later, a taller, pudgier man exited the ship, followed obediently by Austin.  The pudgier man, with the sense to wear short sleeves and shorts, stared at Finix, then to Safia.

"Good day, Ha'Coron' Finix."  James stretched his hand out to attempt to shake Safia's hand.  "You brought your daughter along to our meeting?  Is this a customary thing?"

"That is Safia Kokostali.  She will be FiHami's Minister of Foreign Affairs, if the office proposals are approved."  Finix stared at James with a slight look of annoyance.  "I am Ha'Coron' Finix Fi'Shi."

"My condolences."  James withdrew his hand.  "It is rather hot this time of year."

"Follow me."  Ha'Coron' Finix began walking away to the city proper.  Safia followed Finix closely.  Austin followed along, keeping up well, unlike James, who quickly demanded that they stop for a break.  After an hour of moving at the ambassador's slow pace, Finix led them to an old-looking car.

"It is about an hour's drive to Ha'Hani."  Finix stated, hopping into the passenger's side.  Austin and James piled in the back, and Safia took the driver's seat.

"Now, allow me to properly welcome you to FiHami."  Finix began.  "The temperature is 32 degrees Celsius.  Light breeze, 88% humidity.  A typical day during the dry season."

"Right now the temperatures in Aesthwinter are barely above 5 degrees.  I think a snowstorm was brewing in the south too."  James stated.

"Interesting.  Now, ambassador.  What is your opinions on the wars abroad?"  Finix asked, turning around to face the ambassador the best she could.

"Um, which wars?"

"Let us start with the less pressing one, the Valkyrian-Hystaigan war?"

"The Kalkara war?  Well, Antarcha has a tendency not to care about wars abroad until they threaten us directly.  Neither country is actively trying to provoke our Empire, so we don't care."  James stated.

"Ok, but that's the Empire's opinion.  What's YOUR opinion?"  Finix asked once again.

"I have none."  The ambassador declared firmly.  "What are your opinions?"

"Well, I think both sides are idiots.  Had they actually talked things through instead of just declaring war off the bat, the current death counts wouldn't be there."  Finix ranted.  "In fact, this war is the classic example of what is wrong with everyone.  No one wants to listen to an actual voice of reason.  They want to be trapped into their own echo chambers.  Makes me mad, honestly."

"And your Nontarki situation?"  James stated with an air of arrogance.  Finix growled a little bit under her breath.

"The Nontarki have done nothing but attempt to kill us time and time again.  There is no reasoning with these people."

"But are you not  then trapped in your own echo chamber?"  James crossed his arms smugly.  "They are people too."

"They left their humanity behind when they first started slaughtering innocent Finixi."
