The election was called by the Supreme Minister because polls showed that his party would gain seats in the Legislative Council. However, The Voice of Hystaiga made the surprise announcement that she would campaign as a parliamentary candidate, something that had not been done in the modern history of Hystaiga. The Party of Social Democracy quickly elected Blisse Starke to be their leader, causing a surge of support for the PSD in opinion polls. When the election was held, the PSD won an outright majority of seats, avoiding the need to negotiate with smaller parties to form a coalition and Starke became only the third person in history to hold both the positions of The Voice and Supreme Minister.
Now that Starke is the Supreme Minister, she will keep her promise of "open[ing Hystaiga] to the world" for the first time since Qvait's failed invasion in 1966. The attempted conquest by Qvait shifted the political narrative in the country with voters looking inward and withdrawing from the international realm. For the first time in more than half a century, Hystaiga will allow foreigners legal access into the country, but historic enmity has made the state apprehensive of welcoming Valkyrians into the country. However, Starke said that she is "open" to negotiating a free movement treaty with Valkyrian Chancellor Margaret Harrison, whom she calls "a fellow social democrat". Until then, though, Hystaigan immigration officials will not allow Valkyrians to travel to the country or cross the border the two countries share.
Even though Starke hopes to negotiate a treaty with Harrison, the 7 July general election in Valkyria may determine whether the latter remains as Chancellor of the Valkyrian Republic. A change in leadership in Valkyria may complicate the historically chilly relationship between the two countries, especially if Opposition Leader Nicole Chancellor is involved in the next government. At times, the national conservative politician has made statements sympathetic to the leadership of the Qvaitican Empire who orchestrated the 1966 invasion attempt of Hystaiga. The Hystaigan government will be watching the upcoming election in Valkyria closely, but Starke has hope that Valkyrians will make the right choice, quoting Harrison's signature refrain, "They will vote for peace, freedom, and democracy."
In the grand scheme of things, the Supreme Minister looks to promote her own brand of peace, freedom, and democracy in the South Pacific but also remains vigilant. Even though Hystaiga had isolated itself from the world after 1966, the country and its leadership have paid attention to the affairs that took place beyond its borders. When Atlas became Supreme Minister in 2015, his party passed the Defence Act in response to the Great War of 2014, which implemented conscription of Hystaigans who reached the age of 18 and nearly tripled the size of the Defence Force. During the election campaign, Starke stated that she will not repeal the Defence Act, calling it a "necessity to the defence of Hystaiga". The crises that have developed in the past few years, especially the one in Reizen, is an issue of concern to Hystaiga.
By becoming both The Voice and Supreme Minister, Blisse Starke holds a status that only two people before her have ever held. In Hystaigan culture and mythology, the person who holds both positions becomes endowed with demigod-like status. As per the national consitution, Starke is now allowed to serve as The Voice and Supreme Minister of Hystaiga until her death if she so chooses. The two people before her, Rendon Millar and Victore Malcolm, served as both The Voice and Supreme Minister until they were assassinated, which has been viewed as a curse and many succeeding leaders have avoided holding both positions since Malcolm's assassination. Starke said that she hopes to "break the wheel" and usher "a new era of peace and harmony" in Hystaiga and the world.

However, Starke added that Hystaiga will remain neutral in any conflict that arises due to the rising hostilities between states in the South Pacific. The Supreme Voice of Hystaiga also took a moment to condemn the recent rhetoric coming out of the Valkyrian Republic, especially the Immigration Regulatory Act 2019, "My people were victims of a similar tyranny when Qvait was ruled by Marshall Fallen in the last century. We are not Valkyrians and we are not adherents of the Valrissi religion. Our people have seen this tyranny before and fully condemn the hatred in that bill."

In a speech before the Legislative Council of Hystaiga, Blisse Starke warned that "history was repeating itself" after Valkyrian Chancellor Stella Kaufman gave an address before the Valkyrian National Assembly in which she accused the Hystaigan government of shooting down a Valkyrian fighter jet on 14 October. The Supreme Voice denied the accusation and countered by saying that the Valkyrian government is using the incident as a "pretext for war". In response to the convening of the Valkyrian Defence Council, Starke has been named by the Legislative Council as the Chief Defender of the Realm, granting the Supreme Voice emergency powers over the Hystaigan Defence Force.

![[Image: MZ5jRAS.png]](https://i.imgur.com/MZ5jRAS.png) International politics | Valkyria invades eastern border of Hystaiga By Michaela Camerone, The Karelia Chronicle Tuesday, 5 November 2019 Karelia (The Karelia Chronicle) — Hystaigan Supreme Voice Blisse Starke made a public statement announcing that the Valkyrian military has invaded eastern Hystaiga through the deployment of paratroopers near Mount Kalkara, "The Hystaigan Defence Force will do everything in their power to stop the Valkyrian aggression in the east of our nation." The Supreme Voice also implored other nations to intervene in the conflict by expelling Valkyria from the World Forum and implementing sanctions against Valkyrian government and military officials. Starke wants nations to impose a travel ban against Valkyrians and the freeze of their foreign bank accounts until "the Valkyrians end their illegal war".
The Supreme Voice, who has been chosen by the Legislative Council to be the Chief Defender of the Realm, said that she will do "everything in her power" to stop the Valkyrians from successfully invading Hystaiga. In her effort to accomplish this, Starke has implemented conscription to enlist all Hystaigans between the ages of 17 and 35 with exemptions for those who are physically or mentally unfit. In her speech, the Supreme Voice said, "Our predecessors fought these people before and were ultimately victorious against them. Today, we must fight again to assure that our children and their children will have a future."
