I don't like instead the idea of imposing them on current and future players. In the first case, it would involve major retcons with the attached quarrels, especially in light to the fact that, as shown, it's an intricated patchwork of ethnicities and histories. In the second it would be discouraging, and bring further quarrels.

Hate to be a downer, but take a look at the amount of discussion simple facts as population and GDP have caused.

Well, still we have two options:
1) We can just record the different events that would happened almost ramdomly among isolated groups of nations.

2) We could try to do a list with every nation that voluntarily wants to join into an Historical Canon Roleplay, and let them decide since what time, era or century they would like to start playing.
