Symbol of the Limevv Faith
Limevv can both be an ancient religion primarily followed by Duric tribes in what is today Sedunn, or more recent interpretations, often called Neo-Limevv. Neo-Limevv has about 180,000 followers world wide.

Followers of the ancient Limevv faith believed that the world consisted of three different realms: jutel ("the below"), kluse ("the earth") and jivv ("the above"). Humans and other begins such as horses and dogs were bound to the earth realm, and animals like fish were bound to the "below". Some animals were said to be samm ("crossers"), like birds who could both nest on the ground and fly in "the above". The ability to cross into all three realms was seen as a special power (called lim), and the most powerful creatures were the seabirds, because they can cross into all three realms. Seabirds where therefore called Lajerr Skann, or the Great Travellers. If a being possessed the power to cross the realms, it was also believed that it could reside between the realms in what was called the hamne, or "membranes".

The membrane itself was believed to be pure fire. Followers had likely observed that fire existed in the "below" as magma, on the earth as the flames in a hearth, and in the "above" as lightning, the stars and most importantly, the sun. Fire provided for life, but could also take it.

The seabirds were not directly worshipped, but revered and respected for their magical powers. They were believed to be the wisest of all beings, and that they could guide people to knowledge. It was believed that humans eventually would learn to control fire to travel between the realms themselves, and as they were able to travel to the distant stars, they would surpass the seabird and ascend to a divine state, "releasing" all beings that previously had lived into the membrane/fire world.

The Limevv religion does not directly provide a creation myth. However, ancient texts hint that all beings once had the power to cross realms, and leaving the membrane realm was how they came into existence.

Ancient texts, such as the Giant Tales, provide a record of how seabirds showed humans where to find food and good land to settle. They also state that early humans were guided by the advice of seabirds how to live their life, for example to form families and exist in larger communities. For that reason, seabirds were also called the Lajerr Poijj, or the "Great Guides". They encouraged humans to learn, and specifically master fire.

Followers did not have a single entity or person with a specific right to interpret the wisdom of the sea birds or enforce it, like a priest or a temple. The beliefs were mainly transmitted through oral culture. Early historians recorded these folk tales in the Giant Tales chronicles. The earliest record of this religion is from a time when humans started using fire to process metals. It was also around this time that modern humans started settling the lowlands of Sedunn, and in a sense maybe really were guided by the presence of seabirds to find water supplies and food.

Neo-Limevv

Neo-Limevv is a broad term, and there exists many modern interpretations of the old Limevv religion. Many of the more widespread branches put more emphasis on Fas, a specifically named seagull in the Giant Tales. The seabird is otherwise not mentioned elsewhere in the texts. Fas has more god like properties, and scholars believe this is due to influence from Islam and Christianity, which spread to Sedunn as national romantics knowledgable about these faiths found a new interest in the ancient religion of Sedunners. For example, Semm Barrienn was one of the early followers of a Neo-Limevv branch and had first been an imam, then a priest, before he started preaching about Fas.

There are no dedicated buildings or places for the followers of Neo-Limevv, rather many gather in its followers' homes for various ceremonies. The symbol for the Limevv religion is the Three Realms and the Fire, where the three realms are represented by an arc for the "below", mountains for the earth, and a circle for the sun and the "above", all surrounded and penetrated by the membrane, and is known since antiquity.
