[Debate] Splitting RA Round 2
#221

I will say, personally, I don't see anyone in the assembly as evil - maybe in my opinion uninformed or against my views, that's a natural part of debate - but not a villain. I can't speak for everyone, on either side of the debate, however.

Does any of us want this debate to continue and pass something, or hath the hidden sentiment of the debate  gone to close to our own personal feelings in this matter?

And here, now, we see what I was pointing out. This is what happens when we think we can go on debating forever and come to a resolution: exhaustion, not a resolution. No debate should end in "I still believe in the solution but I'm giving up now".

Roavin, I know you think you can "guarantee" that MoRA is all perfect now and the debate is suddenly going to be newly revitalized... I'm sorry, but you just don't have that power. People are going to feel the way they feel because of what's transpired already, not because you do some Prime-Ministery wand-waving and make everyone willing to talk again. I do appreciate Johngi offering his thoughts -- they're certainly valuable! -- but I feel like I'm in a bit of a bind: he's making reasonable points that largely have been made before by other people. I've responded to those points when they were made before, and if I respond again now, I'll just be repeating what I said then. Doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results is... you know the phrase.

No, I don't want this debate to continue, because there's nowhere to go. Yes, I want to decide whether and what we're passing.

I don't disagree with your assessment, though my suggestion was rather to let things cool off, not rush it, then come back with cooler heads and less visceral arguments. That's my suggestion as legislator, of course — I as PM don't have the power to change what the assembly does (and I shouldn't). I appreciate the sentiment to "just get it over with ffs" and I do feel that way to a certain extent myself, but it's not being helped by just going for it now with "whatever". We do have a deadline - it has to be done in 14 days from now if it's to be voted on in time for the next term. That's not a huge amount of time, sure, but it's not so short that there's no room for delays. And even if we don't do it in time for the deadline, there are ways to implement things anyway even before the next term (for example, with a continuing resolution that requires a special election to be held for the new ministries whose victors shall take office replacing the MoRA when it concludes).

To add to my previous post: We have people filing LoAs over their frustrations left and right, from both sides of this issue. Forcing the issue now isn't going to help that sentiment whatsoever, because whoever forces the vote will just be seen negatively by the other side and worsen those same frustrations. The visceral tensions right now are simply too high.

The nature of MoRA's involvement as a participant in its own right during this debate was a large problem, and I think most people on both sides of this issue can agree to that. That's over now (and yes, that part is in my power - I can't force people to contribute, but I can break up the echo chamber that was preventing it in the first place). Some fruits of that issue still linger, but that will go away in time (and soon at that, I'd suspect) as one side recognizes that they aren't summarily ignored and dismissed, and the other side recognizes that the demeanor from MoRA as an institution that they found so frustrating is now no longer a thing.

Just to make it clear before anybody gets the wrong idea: My involvement in MoRA was not in any way predicated on me gaining an advantage for "my" preferred outcome on this debate (and I see why it might appear that way at first glance, given that I've been a pro-split supporter before); if I had a corrupt intent like that, I would have just gotten involved way earlier Tounge
